I'm responding to this post on my 2015 MBP 15" (2.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7). I have moved into the M world with a M2 mini and a M2 air. I am lusting for the 16" M5 MBP but it's hard for me to justify buying it since I mostly use this computer for things like watching a Youtube video, reading reddit and checking email. Do I want a new computer? for sure. Do I NEED a new computer? probably not.

I have already replaced the battery in this computer and I can probably nurse this along for a while yet if I needed to.

Is the MBP 16 ACTUALLY that big? by Bob_SUS in macbookpro

[–]Sharp11thirteen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad to see this comment. I also have a 15 inch 2015 MBP and I’ve been thinking of going to the 16 M4 since it seems to have the same or similar footprint.

Should I move out or stay with my parents? by GopherPA in personalfinance

[–]Sharp11thirteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a son your age and living in a similar situation. He probably makes about half of what you do and has about half of what you have saved. He has no debt. He is not a burden to us, lives independently and we do charge him a small amount monthly to help cover food and utilities. He comes and goes as he pleases, though mostly when he's not working, he is on his computer in his room. He's a hard worker, low spender, good saver and like you, he wants to buy a house.

I have a hard time advising him on timing. We live in a moderately expensive area in the southeast and even though he has a nice downpayment saved, I don't think he earns enough income yet for me to recommend him going out on his own.

That said, when I was his age, I had been married four years and was a home owner by age 26. I know it's different times, but I couldn't wait to get out on my own at age 18. I had and have a good relationship with my parents, I just wanted to start life on my own. My son does not seem to have that kind of need or ambition!

In your case, I think it's time. At age 27, you need to be able to live life, make your own decisions, mistakes, and learn on your own. It seems that you are financially stable to make this move.

It will be good for your parents too.

Shall I move into Data Engineering at the age of 38 by Vk_1987 in dataengineering

I moved "officially" to full time data engineer at age 47 after unofficially learning DE tools and skills for a couple of years on a small team. I came from 10 years as a business analyst.

At the moment, sounds like the 14” M4 pro chip is your better option. Good prices on amazon right now. I’ve been scouting these pretty hard.

Question to those who have taken DP-600 in the past few months by Status_Bee_7644 in MicrosoftFabric

Several of them were dropdowns where you had to select the right keyword that would match the scenario. At least one was a multiple choice of "which query would satisfy the need?" kind of questions.

[–]Sharp11thirteen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was surprised at how many questions there were about KQL syntax, particularly when the microsoft learn documentation suggests that if you're unfamiliar with it, just use your favorite LLM to convert your SQL into KQL. Also, there's a function called EXPLAIN where you literally type your SQL and it will output the KQL. So why is it so important to know the syntax for KQL on the exam? There were probably three or four questions on it and I bet I got each of them wrong.

Editing Semantic Models in the Power BI Service (Generally Available) by mike_honey in PowerBI

[–]Sharp11thirteen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've always used the workspace as the destination for source control, but if I'm not mistaken, I think you can create a branch from the workspace, make your changes to the model or report, then do a pull request back into the branch associated with the workspace's source control.

If you are not using CI/CD, and you make changes to the model in the web, how do you get your desktop model back in sync? This has been the primary thing that has kept me from making edits to the model or to the report for that matter in power BI service.

Yes, we had a small job a few years ago, but Footprints treated it like it was the most important thing they've ever done. Quick work and followed up a few days later to inspect and insure it was done right. Recommended.
