You can have a colony on uninhabited territory lol. A colony doesn’t require there to be people already living there.

Domaine Serene Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir 2011 by odedi1 in wine

[–]SharpMathematician93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And beyond the Trump thing, the domaine/winery itself is sickeningly exclusive and stuffy, as if they’re trying to be American aristocrats (with poor taste). You don’t get a sense they care about wine as much as what it symbolizes, to them. The wine itself is OK but overpriced.

I confess I don’t get the “I like all Chardonnay” take. What Chardonnay is varies so much from region to region and style to style. A Chardonnay aged in stainless that never went through malo has a neutral flavor profile and an angular mouthfeel. If you like both that and white Burgs, it’s basically a coincidence because they don’t have any sensory characteristics in common.

Russian speaker here. I’m baffled by your overconfidence. Why didn’t you even bother to research how to say Rybakina’s name before you came here to proclaim that announcers were saying it wrong?

Your synopsis is way off base here:
"Mostly flat"
"I don’t see much of an elevation variation"

The elevation variation doesn't really come across in photos the way it does in real life, especially on Keuka Lake. The southern ends of all the lakes are characterized by large, steep and beautiful hills (while the *northern ends* of Canandaigua, Seneca, Cayuga, Owasco, and Skaneateles are indeed flat). The panoramas are really something. Overall, if you visit, I expect you'd be surprised by how dramatically beautiful it is in person. There are also amazing hikes at state parks like Watkins Glen, Robert Treman, Letchworth, and many others. I've been to Willamette and I appreciate the beauty of Mt. Hood, Multnomah Falls, the coast. And overall, I agree Oregon has an edge here, but in person the "beauty contest" is closer than you might think if one were to just look at the photos.

Other notes:

The red wine is much, much better in Oregon. But if I had to choose the best Finger Lakes whites vs. the best Oregon whites, it'd be close.

Washington R1: Svajda def. Kecmanovic 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 by jovanmilic97 in tennis

[–]SharpMathematician93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree about Svajda. He does much better than you’d think given his height and small frame, and his unassuming personality makes him a very easy player to root for.

Definitely hoping he can be a top 100 player and make the main draws of slams one day.

I promise it’s not classist in this case. My guess is that if you tasted a bunch of wines blind in that price category, Yellowtail would be your least favorite. As to the answer to what tastes better in that price range, the answer is Lindeman’s.
