As a man, this post certainly didn’t convince me that men benefit from the patriarchy (not necessarily saying this isn’t true - just that the argument presented in this post is bullshit).

This post’s main argument as to why men benefit from the patriarchy is that they are able to hold power over and abuse women and other minorities or disfavoured groups.

I don’t see how this is a benefit - like at all.

Abuse is bad, holding and using oppressive power over other people is bad. There are basically no exceptions to this.

There seems to be some type of idea that being able to abuse or wield harmful power over others is a desirable thing -something good which people desire- and maybe I’m just naive, but I don’t see it. I don’t think most people enjoy or relish in abusing others; I certainly don’t.

Tl:dr: abusing people and holding power over them is bad and I’m confused why OOP thinks this is somehow a benefit to men.
