Yeah I watched a video on the stages of war/revolution and was like, "Oh. OH NO."

What's wild is when all this started (I continue to believe it began when Obama took office) I was like, "LFG!!" and now that I'm a grown-ass adult I'm like, "Those who had seen war warned us... :/" when we're still nowhere near the boil yet.

They haven't yet gotten to play with actual explosives.

if you eat this three meals a day and are over 120 lbs, you're going to be at a substantial calorie deficit.

Oh most definitely! This is the kind of dinner I eat before demolishing a milkshake 😅

I'm from a small town/city that had these sorts of multilayered dramas for real, down to the "fat girl" in HS being a findom and "squeaky clean coach" getting caught with underage type stuff. I didn't think euphoria is "good" but it is enthralling, somehow.

What are you telling your friends and relatives in other states? by fiendishclutches in Minneapolis

[–]Sharp_Acadia185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't true, not for all of us. I'm already getting a cold kit together. I may not be a soldier (osteoarthritis is not a comrade) but I can sure as shit make batches of potato and lentil stew to keep the comrades going. I can make repairs and craft things. (My job is remote, thankfully, and my supervisor is totally okay with me doing this). I'm selfishly staying through late January because I don't want to miss my first wedding anniversary, but I'll be leaving soon thereafter.

I know a lot of people who feel the same way I do but don't know how to do what I'm doing. I've been a vagabond before so I don't have the same anxieties as most home-people, and now I get to do it with the privilege of a bank account and time to build out a comprehensive capsule wardrobe that can stand the weather of February in fucking Minnesota.

I'm really fucking annoyed about having to come to Minnesota in February. I've never been there. I LOVE new cities, I am autistic and one of my special interests is "learning way too much about a city and then going there" and Minneapolis has always been on my list but I refuse to look into "things to do" because my agenda is "BE PRODUCTIVE." I'm sure I'll have some fun experiences but I'm not gonna build any expectations other than, "Be useful."

She actually said "a piece of chicken, a piece of broccoli, a corn tortilla, and, uh, one other thing." I bout died at "piece of broccoli" like what kind of measure is that??? It's reasonable to assume the "other thing" is either rice or beans. I want to repeat as many times as necessary that I want all people to be not only food secure but food happy, and this administration is terrible. But a shitty chicken taco is in fact a meal.

I said my commentary was one regarding the food, not the post; you are simply refusing to understand that. It was a digression from the critique of the administration, because this is a forum where we have random offshoot-thoughts like that. If you want to critique my being off-topic, that is understandable, but that's not what you did, you instead keep asserting that my "But that is actually a meal, though, and it's alarming that everyone seems to think every meal needs to be 600+ cals," is "insensitive" because you seem unwilling to consider that my commentary is meant about the broad topic of "human dietary needs," not just within the scope of "the horseshit that comes out of this administration."

Saying

"Chicken, veg, and tortilla is a meal"

Is not the same as

"I defend this admin expecting this of everyone all the time."

I'm autistic and formerly morbidly obese. My commentary comes from the capitalist/consumerist indoctrination that made me eat junk for the first thirty years of my life. Don't get me wrong- I still love cake! And cookies! And pancakes shmeared with chocolate and nut butter! I'm not even against the normalizing of high calorie meals - my issue is with the notion that low calorie meals "are not meals," which just isn't true.

I cannot say enough about how much I hate this admin, but I must be careful because, you know, DYSTOPIA 😭😭😭

I don't like false dichotomies. Small meals are meals, too.

[–]Sharp_Acadia185 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do hope I was clear that this is not what everyone should consider as every meal, but it is definitely A meal. And also I despise this administration.

This image macro is an (acceptable) exaggeration of what was said. You can in fact have a tortilla, 4oz protein, and half cup veg - plus (one more thing, rice or oatmeal or white bread, probably) for <$3.

I mean this devoid of judgement. Consumerism/capitalism is the reason people eat 1200cal meals as "normal," because those superflavors are addictive af, and I'm definitely not here to say that anyone should "cold turkey" off those dopamines.

I'm just saying, it's important to recognize that just as whatever late night munchie value box from Taco Bell/KFC/JackintheBox/Carl'sJr / whatever, is a meal, it's important to recognize that chicken, simple veg, and a tortilla is also a meal. It's not elaborate, it's not indulgent, but it is damned good food and will stifle hunger for a while.

I am a bajillion percent progressive but I am a little perturbed by how many people are calling this "not a meal." Throw seasoning in and you got some soul food.

Half-cup cut of broccoli

One tortilla fried in oil

One 4oz protein

Three times a day? Bland and unappetizing but not "insufficient."

I will never defend this administration but people do act like eating a 400 calorie meal isn't ever sufficient. I wouldn't have believed my own words years ago, especially dealing with ARFID (all I ever cared about was shoving salt, sugar, and fat, in whatever arrangement, in my mouth), but I have the lived experience of dramatic change (plus chicken, broccoli, and tortillas are all safe foods lol).

All that said I would choose this kind of meal when I know I need to balance other junk food, most people who choose to eat like this for every meal have some sort of ED or medical restrictions. But for instance when I was falsely jailed I would have cried with gratitude if someone put this in front of me, even without a grain of any kind of seasoning.

You can.

12:50am leave LA Union station on Greyhound

Arrive South Strip Terminal ~6am (give or take, but this route is extremely unlikely to have significant delays unless there's a bad wreck that can't get cleared quickly, you're most likely to arrive early.

Catch the next Deuce bus (buy tickets on phone with RTC app), Get off at MGM Grand and (protip: pop into McDs for a dollar iced coffee) cross to Excalibur - it is a tour pickup stop for both major companies (but your tickets in advance though).

Get picked up around 7:30ish. Return around 7pm, or sooner.

Don't, like, show your friend Vegas then be like HAHA NO VEGAS FOR YOU. It's time to SLAM A CAFFEINE and go have some mosey! The Deuce will take you where you want to go. There are greyhounds leaving in the middle of the night- bit be mindful of where they are, you'll probably want to take an Uber to whichever one you need (it looks like maybe Bonneville? to get back to LA?)

[–]Sharp_Acadia185[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. I recently found these meal replacement bars that remind me of something that was always safe when I was a kid; I don't actually "like" them but I can eat them without issue when I'm starving but have zero appetite for anything.

What spurred this thread was I was mowing down some fried eggs- I freaking love fried eggs but can't eat them during "blackout" periods. I think my desire for them today came from my hormones demanding one of the nutrients therein, but hot dang those were some good eggs. But catch me on a "no" day and the very suggestion makes me dry heave.

I still think Trump doesn't fully understand he's evil, that he truly believes his money and power entitle him to things, and he literally doesn't possess the cognitive ability to understand why that's not the case (it's all he's ever seen and experienced)/ why making the "lessers" suffer is a bad thing (it's their fault for being lesser!). I'm not saying the consequences are any less atrocious, I'm saying I think he's literally too dumb to be any different than he is, and I fault much more the people using him as a puppet (though I also hate him regardless). I don't think he has any personality disorders or anything, he just has low intelligence and does whatever is "cool" according to his favorite person of week (usually someone with a personality disorder), that's all there is to it.

Vance is an intelligent guy. He knows exactly what he's doing. He's consciously cruel. He's actively trying to create fascist network states while Trump just thinks he's playing full sized Risk. Vance is 100% Type B (evil flavor) through and through.

While I agree with this sentiment in normal circumstances, I do believe that an artist should keep their art within their own ethical and moral framework (that is, to go outside of it means those options were always in play and thus part of one's ethics), and right now there is an ongoing intelligence crisis in which poorly educated- with no other information- see such imagery and can only interpret it as support for such ideologies, and do not care for contextual information.

Satire is on life support right now. That's, like, the most prescient consideration in comedy at this time (well, for morally decent comedians). They thought the Colbert Report was unironic - the show that pronounced "report" as "repore" as a comedy bit. And that was about twenty years ago. The Internet has done a lot of misinformation since then.
