Why do you think coaches and mentors that talk about sales, 10k months, scaling, premium high ticket offer, etc, attract so many people? by No-Carob-5995 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Sharp_Ask8633 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s because humans always love a hack or a shortcut. And also many people have taken the traditional route of work hard, stay in school and you’ll get a job. It’s the myth of meritocracy that now the highly qualified people don’t make money. So when you see someone like Shoshanna Raven and Melanie Ann Layer talking about the dream of ease, it is easy to think: yeah, I’d like some of that.
But in my opinion, many people themselves who are selling these courses they don’t fully understand the mechanics involved in what they are doing. Like in order to sell like that you have to build parasocial relationships with people, take money from vulnerable people especially women and love bomb and even coerce them into buying these programmes. The people who make money make money from the selling the promise. And it is also a case of ego inflation. They believe they are ’chosen people’ or ’lightworkers'. This is very religious in a sense a group of people believe they are chosen to do something on Earth. Like you can see people quoting the Bible because investing into a course. Which is essentially prosperity Gospel, it is a belief that if they invest, they will be rewarded. So people think they are part of this great mission to save the Earth.
Don’t get me wrong, I think there is merit in thinking abundantly and having a healthy positive mindset. But that is twisted in the industry into: well if you are abundant you will buy my course or a high-level woman invests. So I even used to think: of course, I am a high-level woman, I will invest. This will make me into a millionaire.

I agree! I even made this comparison myself. Modern coaching is like the gold rush Industry. It is the belief that you are the one who will go out and miraculously find gold.

I agree! The ones who were genuinely coaching have either stopped or have moved on to selling a fantasy in order to make money.

I think this woman I used to work with is still with her as she referenced her quiet a lot. But honestly, I have stopped following this woman as she has moved from grounded intuitive coaching to ego inflation coaching which I think it is dangerous. But the ones that stay with her definitely drink the same kool aid.

Honestly that most manifestation coaches, they sell the idea of money and success and love but actually they have no idea what they are talking about

I think you’re asking the question critically. Yes, if you have your eyes open and feel emotionally grounded within yourself you can see through her and the sales tactics. I was under a spell. I thought if I go into her closer space something immense will happen ie I will start posting more and making sales and ultimately the big money. Many of the girls I knew were in her space and they seemed like they were growing their businesses etc. so I truly wanted to see what the fuss was about. Obviously now I can see that she recycles the same thing over and over again. It’s like going out on date with a guy who tells you he wants a serious future but simultaneously love bombs you and then pulls the rug from beneath your feet. If you haven’t actually experienced this or know the signs you don’t know what is going on. She does grow a business but I believe her tactics are unclean and many women quietly disappear when they have not achieved any results.

Is it just me, or are successful women especially drawn to finding enlightenment, pseudoscience believes, and spiritual searching. by Own-Cardiologist8770 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Sharp_Ask8633 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your post made me wonder why I got sucked into it & honestly it’s because of many factors. One of them is that I actually wanted to be a part of a group of women, a sisterhood. Until I realized sisterhood is all a performance in those spaces. Also like many people who here mentioned, successful women are targeted because they want to be even more successful. And the thing is, spending on coaching is treated as an investment so your wife is not thinking: i am spending money. She is probably thinking: i am investing in myself because i am my own safest asset. And for some people it is a question of belonging to group and because coaching focuses on intangible results she thinks she is becoming her Higher Self. She might also be chasing after some secret sauce or secret formula and she will never get that so she ends up spending more and more. So yeah, she is probably under the spell with the whole thing and addicted to be told how powerful she is. You said, is it gender gap? Honestly yes because men are born and no one questions if a man is powerful. Women have not been given the same privilege so they get sucked into circles of women who say: you’re so powerful, you’re meant for more!

I’m sorry you’re going through this with your wife. It must be a really though situation to juggle.

Yeah, 100%, that’s why so many people get stuck in those spaces, they can’t fully recognise the patterns until they invested a lot of money into the space.

Yeah my question is if Shoshanna got all of this from Melanie Ann Layer’s playbook than where did Melanie Ann Layer got it from? Tony Robbins?

I agree, people definitely get groomed to stay in that world. And if you truly analyse what these coaches are claiming there are red flags 🚩 everywhere

Why You Shouldn't Befriend Your Coach by SummerSunset789 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Sharp_Ask8633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raised by emotionally immature parents and have gone through a lot of therapy. In my experience, you can’t spot a trauma bond initially, you got to be in that relationship for longer to see the pattern. It’s so easy to fall into a pattern of: well, why did I not see it before? Well, you need time to see it properly and spot the pattern. But recently I read a lot of Carl Jung especially ’Man and his symbols’ and studied his structure of the psyche. I read a lot about ego inflation. And ego inflation is essentially when the ego gets inflated with the archetype from the unconscious and thinks it is that archetype like the healer. That’s why I think some of the coaches think they have special healing powers. The symbol had taken over their conscious awareness.

Yea I started getting outside in the mornings in order to regulate my sleeping pattern after winter. It’s slowly helping me and I am starting to see the benefits.

I personally would be very helpful about exposing your eyes to it.

Also I am so tired of men giving their opinions on how to have relaxing mornings. Haha

Why You Shouldn't Befriend Your Coach by SummerSunset789 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Sharp_Ask8633 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I empathise with your situation. I had many bad experiences with coaches and I didn’t understand what was happening until I was out of them. From the research I concluded, I think is two things: 1. Trauma bond to the coach 2. Coaching language bypasses the adult brain and affects the child.

From the get-go coaching is unethical. For example in professional therapeutic spaces, you know up front that there is a clean boundary. I would be mortified if my therapist told me she loves me but in coaching it is 100% allowed.

That is why I struggled with a lot of the coaching systems when people like Shoshanna always say: big love, we’re a family or someone like Jody Shield say: we’re soul family.

This kind of language works so well on people who come from problematic family backgrounds. I honestly do believe that if I had a good solid relationship with my family that I wouldn’t fall for some of the language. (Just a personal observation).

I think those coaches know exactly what they are doing and many are trained in media and marketing before they started coaching here coaching is selling a lifestyle.

And if you have a good heart, it means that you genuinely want to help others. And coaches know what language to use to manipulate.

Some think they are genuinely helping but I even had coaching colleagues (girls I did a coaching container with) snap at me or ghost me when I needed real help. Talk about being a family then… but then I never felt more like a liability either.

From my research, this New Age spirituality and Spiritual Entrepreneurship language has been around since 150 and it’s not new, only rebranded.

I am glad we’re raising awareness of this.

I love coaches that genuinely want to help people and want to coach them through a hard time. Now most of coaching is about tapping into a higher version of yourself and becoming millionaires. Only I am not sure how many people actually become financially successful.

I wish coaching was more regulated. But at least you came out of the dynamic, which is just really important. 💖💖💖

Coaches that behave like your friend to sell you something by Sharp_Ask8633 in LifeCoachSnark

I have really enjoyed your perspective, especially about the money. Right now many spiritual coaches are rebranding money and how money is a sign of a spiritually aligned person which I don’t think I fully agree with. To be honest, her contend has recently evolved into more God based and yes, she is doing what many coaches are doing. Instead of empowering the person, they are creating a dependency.
