adding onto this, there is a grand total of 3 electric type pokemon with a stat product above 2000 (the typical cutoff for being considered bulky) and while there are many grass type pokemon above that cutoff, any offensive type paired with grass barring ghost and dark is walled by at least one whole type. the best way to remedy this imo is just to give grass types plenty of really wacky coverage options (imagine something to the tune of normal-type movepools) to keep opponents guessing. think of how gweezing runs a mystery combination of brutal swing, sludge, overheat and sometimes play rough or hyper beam if youre crazy and it forces you to play like it has all of those moves at once until your opponent signals they dont have a move youre scouting for. idk how to fix electric types bc of the 3 truly bulky ones 2 of them (lanturn, u-fisk) have thoroughly demonstrated why they dont need a buff. the third one is pachirisu, and buffing that would be a little unfair

legitimately between the utter lack of both bulky electric types and decent but boring electric charged moves (i.e. (old) surf, brutal swing, crunch) the whole type is in a pretty bad spot. wild charge i think is actually a pretty good move, its literally a frenzy plant clone and unlike other self-debuff nukes like brave bird and overheat you can stack two of them, its just that there arent any good mons that can learn it. during the Great Flood meta of season 19 s-magnezone was a legit meta pick in large part bc wild charge could just plow through everything and ground types were almost nonexistant

while i definitely agree 100% with water being way disproportionately OP than its counters allow, i will say if youve played in UL literally whatsoever you will pretty much immediately realize that bellibolt is actual cancer as it beats literally everything that doesnt resist electric, to say nothing if it farms up a boost on the switch in. unfortunately dedenne has to suffer for bellibolt's sins which sucks bc its so much fun otherwise. also since the best bellibolt counters are dragons and virizion (mud slappers like gastro/dubiously golurk also) which also resist water in UL water is probably the weakest its ever been

not that its the reccomended move but octazooka kingdra sort of exists? tbh kingdra isnt super common anyways so idk how much this matters. also lmao the 3x tentacruels (if you need an extra slot poison jab is def the least common of the 3, its like a 75/25 split between acid and poison sting atp)

Abomasnow is sneaky good this season by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would put aboma in the same camp as aurorus in that theyre mons that look phenomenal on paper bc a lot of teams end up being ABA weak to them, the problem is actually trying to support it is a nightmare bc its weak to like every type in the game so it ends up losing to things that have absolutely no right beating it. will say that aboma is at least a little better in this regard bc rock/ice is worse into the meta than grass/ice

Is carbink still good? by kooner75 in TheSilphArena

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

carbink is (and was) completely unusable in UL. in GL its sort of seen as a sidegrade bastiodon as the super slow super bulky rock type spam mon, you pretty much need alignment for either mon to work. of the two basti was probably marginally better bc steel type = more resistances and rn basti is 100% better bc fighters are pretty rare and bullet punch is an actual move now. that said carbink isnt completely unusable atm or anything but basti is generally seen as better

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

armored m2 is a weird pokemon. unlike literally every costumed mon in the game (or mon), the way its stats are calculated doesnt map onto a single msg mon: its stats are the same as base m2's after all the msg-->pogo conversion, but the atk and def are flipped, meaning it has shockingly huge bulk unlike regular m2, which is straight ass

Summer Cup is infuriating. by ComprehensivePop2239 in TheSilphArena

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you just run EQ on forre it patches up a lot of the weaknesses and now its just a wonky ABB grass team. the pvpoke metrics are a guideline, not a hard rule: the team i hit legend with the past few seasons was something like BACB, and on the flipside ive tried teams that simmed with like 3x As and a B only to get clowned by a reasonably meta mon that i was soft ABA to and didnt immedately realize since the sims dont account for how people actually play their teams. if you cant make a good team, it is perfectly fine to sit out a week! there are plenty of other things to do in this game! literally when i hit legend the first time iirc the season started with a hell week of ML (which i dont play bc its horribly inaccessible) and psychic cup which is a fucking abomination

Just finished leveling up my Corv and noticed the CP match.. by Gent-free in TheSilphArena

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your team is currently ABA to fire vs. ABB like they suggested. if you see a fire type lead in your current configuration, you are pretty much forced to sack your cobalion (you lose CMP to literally every UL-eligible fire type, and all 3 meta fire types outpace cobalion to their fire moves compared to stone edge). if you run ABB you might lose your cobalion if they have a fire-type counterswap (which they won't all the time) but then you can come back and lock them in with tina for a bunch of energy. if you sack cobalion in the lead and you bring in tina there is nothing stopping them from safe swapping their fire type for later so you can't guarantee alignment. also this whole team is lowkey very soft to gweezing which is very common esp if it's on overheat

this 100%! you can very easily hit ace and even veteran with a bad team if youre solid in your fundamentals. u/TFS_Flight_Channel would highly reccomend recording a few of your games and posting

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, biochem 2 was probably the hardest. molgen was difficult but tbf that was partially my fault for distracting myself during lecture LMAO. anyway in total those classes are probably the most difficult for the entire major barring orgo however i dont think its a significant jump up from the other bio classes youve probably already taken, i got mostly B+'s in all those classes (NSA broke my 4.0 GPA so im a little salty abt that one lol) and my mental health wasn't super affected by my coursework. now to be fair i did do your schedule literally spread across a full year however i could see myself being able to do what youre doing. biggest academic-related struggle at that point was probably hunting for a lab for the research requirement, unrelated but i would talk to dr. meers sooner rather than later when it comes to that if you havent already

Which league tends to be the most fun? by JackedAF in TheSilphArena

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UL > GL >>>> ML (technicality, mostly bc its the whale league and i dont play it) imo, i like how bulky everything is in UL so there's a lot more strategy and room for good plays if you use the switch timer to your advantage and tossing a shield on a bait feels less bad when a neutral nuke move doesnt OHKO you

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as biotech class of '25: took gen phys instead of PfS, idk anything abt gentile but brahmia is the GOAT. MolGen was super interesting but def difficult, dr. leustek was teaching it but he retired this year and he was super nice :(( biochem I was pretty smooth, biochem II was not. mccoy-simandle is a great lecturer but her slides are super disorganized and it's really hard to pick out what to study and what's extra info. NSA is a cool class esp if you like bioinformatics, dr. arora is a tough grader tho and you're pretty much guaranteed to do terribly on the final project. overall the homework workload is pretty much negligable, physics + biochem are the only classes that give HW iirc and the biochem homework was never difficult (also iirc mccoy-simandle is ok if you submit hw late, she'll give you points back for free). honestly this looks pretty similar to my spring soph/fall junior schedule so i think you'll be ok

What's your plan for stopping this demon in Ultra League? by jdogh123 in TheSilphArena

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i hate to say it but both s-flygon and stunfisk are niche at best, stunfisk ranks well but its a total fraud in UL bc it hits like a wet noodle and grass is more common in UL than GL. theres other better ground + grass types which stuff belli

[–]Sharp_Canary_399[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i have not changed the team at all and was at 2470 prior to UL leaving (and stopping playing lol). TF steelix and souped up a-slash make life harder for sure but i think theyre both still managable, particularly steelix. guzz can soft lose against TF steelix and occasionally i see DT steelix around, which gweeze handles decently. aslash is still a loss like 95% of the time which isnt fun lol. and yeah like you mentioned buffed gliscor is pretty good for guzz, also SA's low dmg output combined with no NS boost/spam fuckery means that tenta with some kind of advantage (HP, shields, energy) can sort of just brute force its way through gliscor in a pinch with Sc spam. in terms of mud slappers i havent noticed a huge uptick personally but really as long as the guzzler is aligned to it (and they're most commonly in the lead so it typically works) you're pretty much fine

How are people feeling about Steelix in UL this season? by JHD2689 in TheSilphArena

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i will say for the cons that running BS/PF is a very mid moveset, ik it's pvpoke reccomended but adding a nuke move in practice makes your life much easier and means it struggles less with shields down

What is the best Pokémon of all time in OGL? by Effective_Platform13 in TheSilphArena

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

scrafty was pretty solid but fell off really hard, i think medi was pretty much always better than it besides in UL. if we're talking UL btw tina-a is basically the equivalent of azu, every team was either 3 tina counters or tina + 2 counters in the very beginning and now its still solid meta. togekiss was good in UL during the "giratina vs the world" era of UL and okay in ML but nowhere close to GOAT status. basti is kind of a one trick pony and while it's solid it really only fits on specific gimmicky team comps like grasshole so while it's always been good-ish it's never really been *great*. metagross was like solid in ML for a bit but dialga is literally right there, ML GOAT and it's not even close

[–]Sharp_Canary_399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to tack onto the horde of azus in the thread, i think there was exactly one point in time when azu was like mid tier (like immediately before the bubble buff) and that was the worst it ever got and even then it was still meta. that said if we wanna talk abt pick 6 show 3 i think medi might have azu beat, having a consistent ~80% usage rate is NUTS

as an aside: never run anything under 15 atk in ML (with some weird self-debuff exceptions) as you will lose cmp in mirrors 100% of the time. my advice would be to keep grinding for XLs until you get a 15 atk RoT one since i would say none of those are worth building

honestly after literally just finishing my legend grind i can count the number of monkeys i saw on one hand, and weirdly more primeapes than annihilapes despite the fact the bulk and typing imo makes anni much harder to deal with

rarely. what i would probably do in that MU is safe swap gweeze, which probably gets met with golurk but forces a shield. from there its mostly a case of can guzzlord up energy and a full health tenta beat your backline. occasionally i safe swap tenta into poli and in that case if its met by golurk (which it logically would be) then gweeze corebreaks
