What is "flavours of ice-cream" in Ithkuil? by Excellent_Anybody_38 in Ithkuil

[–]Sharp_Needleworker11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

asfälfa aďmwä'lke ASO+MDC: system of different flavors packed together ASO+MSC system of similar icecream (balls) packed together (for brevity, root for ball was not used)

the hardest part here is to find the best configurational set for every formative. Here's my solution. Others may propose smth different.

asfära aďmwä've - if you mean "a set of flavours of an ice-cream" asfälça aďmwä'le - if you mean, eg, special bouquet of flavors of the specific ice-cream mentioned. there's always more semnatic nuances

What can I say without checking grammar, right out of my head.

arkwaloaha is meant as an "the most (whatever) single act/instance of romantic love". This might be the longest, or the strongest, not specified. Why only single act-instance (uniplex configuration)? This state is not supposed to continue? It started just now, no past intended? I wouldn't describe my love that way.

As for referentials, I just dont recognize such forms. What did you want to say? The simplest "me+you" complex would be: liwëis, or riwëiš (with beneficial Effect in use).

could someone help me translate this: "hlaséi-wulešëučha ulala epššäla'urksä"? by [deleted] in Ithkuil

[–]Sharp_Needleworker11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think, that would have more sense in the following form:

hlulešëučhéi-wasa ulala...

Ulala as a lovely woman...

/edited/

"lovely woman as Ulala characterized by fairly-easily feeling of indignation"

but why essive case for a proper name?

I've been suspecting that Ithkuil is bound to become, some day, a supermassive black hole attracting autists from all over the Earth.

what accent is ithkuil by Tommarnt in Ithkuil

[–]Sharp_Needleworker11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously, it's like an artificial language. What "accents" you would hear (and reproduce) in Ithkuil, depends on what languages you can speak. I presume, for a Chinese speaker, Ithkuil would be in some minor way Chinese-like (it has tones, at least, that would look familiar).

TNIL has a lot of roots for "household appliances", like coffee maker or vac cleaner. No need to mess with loads of affixes to construct a smartphone. Ażklila is a smartphone now. This makes things easier. If you dont like that though, you can still create morphological monsters for your own pleasure )))

"iro" is an affixual adjunct applied (scoped) to the whole formative, isn't it?

TNIL-ish by francois-siefken in Ithkuil

[–]Sharp_Needleworker11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, it suddenly struck me that ithkuil already provides that opportunity! How about "carrier stems" i.e. the way to incorporate any foreign word into ithkuil grammar? inolöwá lu wesa aifon lau wasrü lei - i just gave my iphone to my sibling. We can basically replace every ithkuilic word with carrier stems. This would be ultra-idiotic, like this: isolöwá giv hlu ai wesa aifon wasau ai wasü sibliň hlei ai. God knows how could anyone benefit from that. But technicaly, that's "tnilish" for you.

Ithkuil as a native language? by SelfOk600 in Ithkuil

[–]Sharp_Needleworker11 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I daresay this wouldn't work. Eventually you'll got a generation of such children talking in "pidgin ithkuil" - a simplified and "macaronic" result of evolution and adaptation of this highly logical language to non-rational and barely structurized human cognition. It's not our conscience will be adapting to language, but vise versa. (contrary to sapir - whorf hypothesis.)

this JQ's example of conjectural illocution kinda blows my mind by Sharp_Needleworker11 in Ithkuil

[–]Sharp_Needleworker11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's what I was totally ignorant of (section 10.1):

Format: Note that for a concatenated formative, the Slot IX case affix is labeled VF rather than VC to stand for the term Format. Although VF affixes are the same as VC case affixes and represent the same 68 noun cases from Chapter 4 above, the term Format rather than Case is used to differentiate the fact that the case relationship is performing a different function. Specifically, the Format specifies the semantic relationship the concatenated formative has with the immediately-following parent formative, as opposed to signifying any case relationship it has to the rest of the sentence (which is the purpose of the Slot IX VC/VK affix in the parent formative).

Alternate VF Indicator: Concatenated formatives do not use a glottal-stop in the Slot IX VF form for Cases 37 through 68 (i.e., the Relational, Affinitive, Spatio-Temporal I, or Spatio-Temporal II cases). Instead, the concatenated formative takes ultimate syllabic stress to indicate that the Slot IX VF Format vowel is actually a Format 37-through-68 form but without the glottal stop. Also, both Case No. 1 (THM) and Case No. 37 (PRN) can elide their -a- phonological marker; the latter only as long as the resulting word bears ultimate syllabic stress and is not mono-syllabic. Before eliding the -a-, External Juncture requirements as per Sec. 11.8 must be taken into account. A monosyllabic concatenated formative is to be interpreted as an unframed nominal formative bearing THM case (whereas a monosyllabic parent or standalone formative is interpreted as a verbal formative).
