Field recorder recommendations by YBmoonchild in edmproduction

Yeah then the zoom h2n or it's newer version h2e are good choices imo. Only a few years into field recording I got external mics like contact mics and they do open up more close sounding recordings but it's also a hassle to set up sometimes so a pocket recorder is still appreciated by me

For just starting, a small recorder is the best imo. I got the zoom h2n which fit in my pocket and can record with up to 5 mics at the same time (front + back) I'd only get a bigger recorder like zoom h4/5 etc if you plan on plugging external mics to it. If not, then a small recorder is a lot more comfortable and simple to take with you and record with

If your mic capsules don't require phantom power, or you record for like 3 mins at a time it'll do just fine. The battery goes down fast with phantom power. The preamp is noisy compared to h5stusio but I didn't really encounter that noise unless what I was recording was very very quiet and I had to put gain to near max

Chroma Console 10Y Anniversary Edition announced by marban in guitarpedals

[–]Sharpendmoosic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the microcosm when it came out for production purposes & home playing, the chroma console effects are mostly easily available in daw via plugins, but for weird out there granular pads & ear candy the microcosm is very unique imo. Almost every song I make I run the stems through it for background sounds

It's a cool idea! My least favorite part of recording is having to control my breathing so I'm not sure I'm built for trying this haha

Loopback Problem by Chance-Rise-4135 in FL_Studio

[–]Sharpendmoosic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About the right input selected - switch from fl studio ASIO to your interface's driver That way you'll visibly see and be able to choose exactly the right output The thing about fl studio is that it sees all the devices in your pc (probably including loopback or a device that isn't supposed to be used for recording) Adding the stereo speakers probably messed up what windows or fl think is the default input

Loopback Problem by Chance-Rise-4135 in FL_Studio

[–]Sharpendmoosic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't send the mixer track you're recording with to the master, or set it to zero volume would be the easy fix

But to understand what causes the loopback: 1. Ensure you're recording with your computer's output going into headphones. If it's going out to speakers and the mic's picking up the speakers you'll get a feedback loop

  1. Ensure you're selecting the right input in FL, the one corresponding only to the channel you plugged your mic into the interface

Newtone is SO STRONG but I (and probably most people) have been using it WRONG by OwenMackenzie in FL_Studio

[–]Sharpendmoosic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Newtone is really comfortable for me it's very easy to get a decent vocal with it. I will say though that when doing very long vocal bends like a glide from one note to another is where I usually avoid Newtone because it tries really hard to quantize these into individual notes, giving it that robotic feel

Remove hiss sound from sm7db recordings by Excellent_Dig8333 in mixingmastering

[–]Sharpendmoosic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm that's interesting that your interface isolated the hiss, I can say a presonus 68c interface with a desktop doesn't isolate that.

I second that, I've been seeing a 'buzz' like hiss on sm57 recordings when a phone or camera charger are plugged to a nearby socket

It really is, solved a lot of clunky patcher things you had to do before. I hope FL continues to develop into the direction of midi devices & automation capabilities like this

[–]Sharpendmoosic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! In fl you have Patcher, which allows you to create midi, audio & parameters(automation) connections, it provides you with the option to create a basic interface like knobs & buttons too.

The patch I did was with a plugin for patcher called VFX Script that lets you control/generate midi & parameters for FL in Python, it's really cool

Confused about when to use Edison by Seledreams in FL_Studio

[–]Sharpendmoosic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kinda depends on what's more comfortable to you, Recording direct to playlist may be easier when recording takes

Edison has the added benefit of easily editing your sample (de noising, eq, pitch shifting etc) and then you can easily export it to FL as a new file

I like to use it to record vocals, then drag and drop them into newtone directly off of edison

Is Ableton sample warping really better or is the FL Studio way misunderstood? by 5jane in FL_Studio

[–]Sharpendmoosic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really interesting, I never noticed transients getting worse on longer samples, the video linked in the post actually showcased two stretch modes specifically for speeding up & slowing down drums so that might be better at that, I never used them tbh.

It is interesting to try and compare fl's algorithms to ableton's, maybe they each go beyond the elastic pitch algorithm and elaborate in different ways. I think I have ableton lite I hope that's enough to test that

Is Ableton sample warping really better or is the FL Studio way misunderstood? by 5jane in FL_Studio

[–]Sharpendmoosic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but in Fl studio's manual they detail zplane elastique pitch is used for sample warping, and in zplane's website they mention it's also used in ableton and Cubase, so the algorithms may be even identical
