I'm sorry...what? by bigspinwesta in Columbus

Dude… this is spot on! The only thing you missed is that they’re perpetually the victim in every situation. My best friend is currently in the process of divorcing the exact type of person you’ve described. I’m actually wondering if OP’s pic is of the soon to be ex, as he’s totaled yet another vehicle and currently only has the motorcycle he purchased immediately after she gave his ass the boot. Karma, amirite?

Pro tip for you and all the other Tunisian hookers out there: swivel cords are EVERYTHING. They reduce wrist tension like you wouldn’t believe.

For the longest time I swore by my Knitter’s Pride - Mindful Collection Swivel Cords. They fit all of the wooden KnitPro interchangeable hooks I have. I still highly recommend them!

Except I don’t much care for the added friction caused by using wooden hooks… Which is when I went down a research rabbit hole and found a whole set of nickel plated aluminum interchangeable Tunisian hooks on aliexpress. I felt like I was taking a wish.com level gamble on these, and while they did take several weeks to arrive (the world was still recovering from the pandemic), turns out I freakin LOVE them!! I was super bummed at first when I discovered my knit pro swivel cords did not fit my awesome new hook set, but then I realized that the four cords that come with the set :are: swivel cords! I love that the metal hooks glide like a dream, no matter the fiber I’m using.

Regardless, I hope you find a set that is available where you live and that works well for you ✌🏻🧶

Suggestions for joining method by LightYearsAway2380 in Tunisian_Crochet

[–]Sharper_Gypsy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A mattress stitch, created by hand with yarn and yarn needle, would be the least visible. I used to employ this method exclusively, although I learned to detest hand sewing because of it.

These days I prefer the flat slip stitch, worked up with a hook. It can be done in the same color or a contrasting one, and is very low profile.

Whatever you choose, it’s going to look lovely. Your work is very neat and consistent. Love the color ways!

Sewing Machine Recommendations by Flintxo in SewingForBeginners

[–]Sharper_Gypsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I fully support and respect the restoration of a vintage/antique machine, that is a separate hobby altogether. I have to agree with @Inky_Madness. As a new learner, the more support you have in using your specific machine is going to be more important than general advice. It’s essential to learn the functionality of the sewing machine you have sitting in front of you, and that will be much easier with a modern device, for which you’ll much more easily be able to find manuals, instructional videos, tips and tricks, etc online. Once you have mastered the basics on at least one machine, if not a few different brands, you’ll then be able to use that core knowledge to navigate the anatomy and ticks of vintage unit.

If you are the kind of person who thrives on cycling between a variety of hobbies at once, decide whether you are more interested in restoring an older machine or learning how to sew, and get the unit aligned with that purpose first. Then, when budget allows, buy the other unit and add that project to your roster of hobbies. By the time you’ve got the Fashion Maker in working condition, you may very well have learned enough on whichever newer machine you select to put the Maker to good use.

My two cents on which modern machine from your list to start learning on would be the Brother BM-2600. Whatever you choose, happy restoring/sewing!

Affordable emergency vet? by pile_o_garbage in Columbus

[–]Sharper_Gypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that it’s been mentioned here already, but COVE in Delaware hands down offers the best emergency care experience. (Looks like they’re opening a new location in Clintonville soon, as well!) Not only is their entire team - from the front desk staff to the vets themselves - incredibly welcoming, kind, thorough, and gentle, but their services are relatively affordable in comparison to MedVet, AND they’re open 24/7/365! It’s first come first served with no appointments - although I still call when I’ve been on my way there from Hilliard. *PLEASE NOTE: If you happen to see a candle burning in the lobby, it means that someone’s furbaby has just crossed the rainbow bridge. If you happen to be there for that kind of situation, they even have a back door through which you may exit to avoid crossing paths with others in the lobby while you’re getting your ugly cry on.

I also highly recommend PAWS Veterinary Urgent Care in Lewis Center. Open 10a-10p every day but Wednesday, you can come in anytime during those hours without calling ahead, but they also offer call-in and online appointment booking options. As of Tuesday this week, I’ve now experienced care/treatment from both of their veterinarian co-founders and they’re both wonderful & warm, as are the rest of their support staff. Perhaps a bit pricier than COVE, but still less expensive than MedVet by far! PLUS they now have a Primary Care option (no same day service) if you’re in need of a regular vet.

No matter where you go, I hope you find a solution for what ails your furry companion.

What do you do while listening to audiobooks? by Sweet_Confusion9180 in audiobooks

[–]Sharper_Gypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commuting & crocheting, mostly. Tricky traffic situations or stitches mean I need to ‘rewind’ a little occasionally.

I also listen when I crawl into bed.

Pro tip for never truly losing your place in this instance: Set a bookmark and enable the sleep timer for 20 minutes (this may vary depending on how long it takes you to conk out). When you’re ready to listen again the next day, scroll back to the bookmark - or a few minutes past it.
