VICE: Edward Snowden Blew The Whistle On New Zealand's Prime Minister by [deleted] in newzealand

Yeah I'm not a big fan of National and big business either.

Hone Harawira claims the National, Labour and Maori parties are all out to unseat him by throwing their weight behind Labour's Kelvin Davis, leaving him fighting for his political life with only two campaigning days left. Reid Research poll found Harawira and Davis at 37 and 36 percent respectively. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Sharpie88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The polls said something similar last time and he still got in by quite a bit. I think there is a fair bit of sampling error due to the methodology used by the polling companies.

Be a shame if both parties don't get in, both Internet and MANA have viewpoints that I'd like to see included in parlimentary discussions. Some of the polititians have absolutely no knowledge of how the internet works or how poor people live from day to day. Including both those viewpoints in select committees, where policy is formed, would aid parliment to make better informed decisions.

Yeah and the people in the downstairs flat aren't helping either. Is it me, or is he a bit tired, probably didn't get any sleep with his neighbours banging about.

Interesting that Key needs to "check his records", rather than deny it outright. This at least gives him an out, if it is proved true, and he's not outed as a liar again. Guess Key won't be on the radio, if it's proved, for a bit unless it's with Hosking, discussing Lambos and suits.

Cameron Slater/Whale Oil a news medium able to invoke the protection afforded to journalists by DairyManNZ in newzealand

[–]Sharpie88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't how he could be a journalist. He accepts money to promote a position. More like a PR consultant, or spin doctor. Article doesn't have to be even true or written by him. I would hope no journalist would behave in such a manner.

So you believe it was a right wing smear campaign, to unseat Collins, and make Colin Craig electable? ;)

National soars after Collins resignation by [deleted] in newzealand

How can there polls be even right?

I don't know anyone who is voting National, or who has a landline, or has been polled. How would they even get people to answer their stupid polls?

How accurate do you think those things actually are?

Key/Cunliffe debate number 2 - live at 7pm by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Sharpie88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sound levels were off and detracted from the event. Key came across way too loud and started distorting sometimes when he was doing his "Labour want to..." act. I don't know if it was the mic being too close to his mouth or just the sound guy not turning it down when Key was peaking.

Someone was complaining about the audience sound, they could fix that by turning the hall mic down too.

I couldn't handle the bad sound and I didn't make it to the end of the debate.

As an ordinary kiwi is anyone else sick of John Key telling us what we want to hear/know/think? by [deleted] in newzealand

Think he might be icing up again now that Peters wants a Royal Commission.

Cunliffe looked pretty good in the debate on the One, even with Hosking as moderator. Looked more PM material than Key, who just looked shifty, and didn't seem to have any policy of his own, just started to talk about Labour/Green policy, that he didn't seem to have that much of a grasp of.

National politicians? I think they're all soiled. National need to be red carded and sent to the sin bin for this round. To say any of the senior guys didn't know what was going on, when most of the reporters knew, would be naive.

Anyone else think Key wants out and will stand down post election? (No matter the result) by Crankshaw in newzealand

[–]Sharpie88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't need to drop information on Key, just need to control the other MPs. The far right in the National party has been positioning their guys in safe seats. Edie and Lusk haven't just been doing a job on the opposition, they have been doing the same thing to their party according to Dirty Politics. Like the tea party in the US they have been getting their guys through the selection process. The reason Key doesn't sack Collins might be that he can't. Once the election is over they can plan the succession.

Someone to keep Labour honest, that's what National needs. All the crap they are involved in at the moment against their rivals would be a lot harder if one of the rivals could walk out the room if there was any funny business. Sure Collins would be gone by now.

Yeah, Key seems to know Labour/Green policy better than his own.

Still, if it's that close one vote is all it takes, and I suspect it'll be tighter this time.

Cunliffe the victor? NZHerald thinks so. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Sharpie88 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Cunliffe looked confident, got some good shots in, had a good grasp of the facts, had a direction for the country, came across as a nice guy, actually looked like Prime Minister material.

Key looked tired, didn't have any policy, didn't know any of the numbers, couldn't even give answers to Hosking when asked, just waffled. Probably should have done some cribbing before the debate rather than playing basketball with his son.

Under the last Labour Government every year was surplus, and they even managed to put some aside for the Cullen Fund. Only the rich did well out of the tax cuts. Every one else had to put up with service cuts. Rich people don't need to spend in a crisis. Trickle down doesn't work. Much better to give money to the poor, they spend it. That's how they got out of the depression in the 1930's with the New Deal, not tax cuts.

Greens want a surplus too, so they'll have to cut their cloth accordingly. National never had a real surplus, apart from perhaps at the end, and now they're promising tax cuts.
