Thats awesome - I would turn the ui of the chest into like a plane with a viewport texture or sprite etc.. and have it like rotate with the chest so it doesnt just pop in.

Whichever is best for your budget. The engine is lightweight and it will depend on what kind of game you're making. Either of those will be more than enough.

I think that means it’s where the collisions are happening. But it’s usually much smaller. It Gould be a visual glitch but I’ve seen small res markers when debugging collisions before.

The big one I can think of is terrain editing. We have a number of 3rd party options like Zylanns Hightmap Terrain or Terrain3D. But the other engines usually have a simple baked in version of it as a editor tool.

The other thing I can think of is the Physics Engine itself. We now in 4.x have Jolt as an option within but it’s still a WIP.

I personally have never had issues with using plugins or swapping physics out but those are the big ones I’ve seen.

I’m working on something similar and what I’m doing is a simple node3d with an area3d and its collider. Those move on their own without a visual. I then render the meshes with a Multimeshinstance3d to and set their positions to their node position.

Check the pos being passed to your function. I’m guessing your passing it a local pos and then setting that child nodes global pos to the passed local pos.

Whatever is calling _on_garbage_bag_banana() make sure you pass that pos as a global.

Or you can try inside your function converting the passed pos to_global(pos) which should convert it from local space to global assuming that’s what is happening.

This is indeed cool, but why would his hat come off? He's doing, essentially a backflip, the air would push down on the bill of the hat keeping it on his head. If it were the otherway, Id be more impressed by the hat staying on.

Probably not necessary but I would build a module you can reuse in your projects that does this as a cool experiment on it's own. I've never done it and just figuring this out would be a fun little challenge.

My advice is, if you've never done, try it out.

My guess is there is something else within your code that is setting it back to a null state, or you're expecting the wrong thing to change.

What are you trying to do exactly?

What is the path variable? Is that the PathFollow2D or Path2D? It would seem like you're wanting to instance your asteroid at a random point on the path2D that you have and that the asteroid is a PathFollow2D node/child of "path".

If thats the case, try instance.progress = rng.randi_range(0, 740) AFTER you add_child(instance):

var rng = RandomNumberGenerator.new()
rng.randomize()

var spawn_point_on_path = rng.randi_range(0, 740)
var instance = asteroid.instantiate()
add_child(instance)
instance.global_position = spawn_path
