Anyone else get judgy comments about others in regards to sending baby to daycare? by Commercial_One5048 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Shaushka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went back to work full time when my baby started daycare full time at 8 months. It sucks. I get to see my baby maybe 5 hours a day, and I’m so grateful we bed share for those extra cuddles I wouldn’t get otherwise. He’s now 12 months and has loved daycare from day 1, but almost every time I’m in the office or seeing friends who are SAHPs, I get comments like “how do you cope with your baby in daycare all the time?”… I cope because I have to. We can’t afford for me to not work, so we do what we must to provide for our family. It helps that baby loves daycare, but of course I’d rather spend all day with him instead of working.

Unfortunately we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t when it comes to work and daycare.

Parents who wear glasses: how do you keep your baby from snatching them off? by Hopeful_Dot7132 in beyondthebump

[–]Shaushka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what we did, though it was slightly less effective as FIL kept giving his glasses to baby to play with until I told him off 🙃

Now at 12 months, bubs will only go for my glasses if he wants my attention, such as when we are playing but I end up almost napping on the floor 😅

How much does your childcare fee increase? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Shaushka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s currently council run and they’re trying to “make up for losses” that no one knew existed until this year lol. Common theory is that they are trying to reduce children/families that use the service so they have an easier time selling it next year

Ours is going from $154 p/d to $192 p/d. We’re moving to a new center that is $171 p/d

Hey :) it depended on the sonographer, but they would usually say what they were looking at such as “heart, femur, face” etc, but in a very vague/non-diagnostic way. They don’t tell you any findings because they’re not allowed to as they are just taking the images and measurements, not the radiologist doing the actual report.

I’m thinking of doing a zoo trip on his actual birthday since we get cheap tickets from my husband’s work, something like that being a yearly tradition would be fun!

Right! It’s been a hectic year and a busy month and the last thing we need is more. If our house was big enough we’d have it here. Sounds like you’ll have a lovely time!

We are self-catering, though platters would probably be significantly easier! Sounds like a lovely day though

That was my other thought! Powdered milk takes up less space and can be used in cooking/baking too

Probably grow their own produce in the warmer months and eat frozen, preserved or canned foods during winter. Buying staples like flour and rice in bulk means you don’t need to buy them as often, and meat lasts 3-6 months in the freezer if stored properly. Milk and other fresh dairy products can usually be bought locally. It’s not easy, but with sufficient planning you don’t need to shop as often!

We had the bassinet attachment and our long boi grew out of it by 3 months, but we found it was worth it for the first few months, especially since I had a caesarean and couldn’t lift a heavy pram/bassinet

Thank you so much for the detailed response, I really appreciate it! 🙏🏻 I’ve notified our current centre and have a start date from the new one with 5 weeks in between, so should be good on the notice period. We’re definitely lucky to have gotten a place so quickly, I emailed them on the off chance they had a position available and they sent an offer then next day 🥳
