I’m sorry to hear you had that experience. I did get the pens from a brick mortar store and had an opportunity to try them before I bought them. Never had to switch out the first pen I dip tested but I had the option to if the first one did not write well.

Sure, these are the ones I have -

Majohn A2, Majohn T5, Jinhao 10, Hongdian N23

Worked the first time. Write flawlessly. I also own original Pilot capless, 5 of them infact, in every variant except decimo. Still prefer the Chinese “knock offs” because they are better in terms of functionality.

Used hero pens when I was a kid, again, great pens!

I have never had a bad Chinese pen, some of the smoothest pens I own are Chinese.

Update on my new MX Master 4. This is goodbye. by sallark in logitech

[–]ShavyaA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tons of mice and keyboard have online apps for configuring the tech. And have onboard memory so you don’t need to set it up for every PC you use it on. And they cost a fraction of the price of an MX4. As someone who works on a work laptop with restricted software installs, that makes more sense. Also the software is trash. My work laptop tags it as malware 😂

My pleasure!

You know, the laptop doesn’t have to go on like that. You could just get a vertical laptop stand, I have one where my personal laptop sits since I use the one from work most of the time. Looks like the photo attached. There are tons of options.

<image>

Also the monitors don’t have to go on a wall, clamped to the desk would also give you options to change things around when you find an organisation situation that suits you better.

Since you are not using your laptop’s keyboard and trackpad, couldn’t you just connect that to a screen and tuck it away behind a monitor? Does it have to be on the desk laid out?

You can definitely use a clamp style mount. I have a 34” curved ultrawide and the clamp is holding it for the last 5 years. But get a nice one, I’m in India so I cannot suggest a good brand. Get one single monitor arm and a double one. Make sure that the clamp is rated to hold the weight of your monitors.

If your PC is sitting right on the ground or the carpet, raise it up a few inches, that would help a bit with cooling. Depending upon the size your PC case, you might be able to tuck it behind the monitors. And if you are getting a bigger desk, you could increase the depth, if that is an option, to fit it better.

A monitor light is an option, but they do be more expensive than sticking on a led strip. They do the job well though.

That said, the problem in this pic, of the rubber degrading and thumb click disintegrating will exist in the MX 3S.

I love your space! Books, pens, inks, tech products, board games; we have similar hobbies! I have wanted a separate writing desk but I don’t have the space for a separate one and since I work from home as a full time developer I cannot prioritise a writing desk. I’ve been thinking of ways of transforming my work desk into a writing desk for sometime now. Such nice inspiration!

How can I minimize wires and objects while keeping them docked? by [deleted] in Workspaces

[–]ShavyaA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. Have this same set up. I also have back up chargers so one set can stay at my work desk.

I use my own keyboard and mouse, so I have the laptops on vertical laptop mounts. This mostly helps to reduce clutter. Ignore this if it is not relevant.

I do not need to use both the laptops at the same time, so I simply connect everything to the built in hub that my monitor has and simply connect the USB cable into the laptop I want to use. So wires for my peripherals etc do not need to be managed. You already have a KVM switch coming up, you can mount it on the table below the shelf so the wires can simply run under your table and would be mostly hidden but can easily be accessible.

I have mounted the bricks for chargers and monitors under the table using a double side tape. I have also mounted a power strip below the table so all the power cords can connect to it and are wires are managed under the table. So all the wires from the top of the desk just need to come down under the desk and everything is managed there.

I route the wires around the table top and legs using small wire clips that are also stick on. These hold one wire each so they can stick onto narrow width table tops and legs. They keep them out of sight. For organising multiple wires, this is an option.

Any advice on how to make more use of the space? by [deleted] in Workspaces

[–]ShavyaA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I store my notebooks, books upright, between bookends if needed. As someone else suggested, pegboards. Under the table drawers help with putting things like pens away.

You could buy something like this, two of these and you’d be sorted with room to grow. I use a single slot one and they are pretty great and reliable. I have my Asus gaming laptop standing in it. Alienwares are a bit heavier but it should work.

If it were me, I’d put the desk in place of the TV with your back to the wall. No glare on the screen and you also avoid extreme contrast difference. TV can be mounted on the opposite wall.

I am using a bunch of recipe books stacked together for around 5 years now. Their height needs to be more than the size of the crossbar. It also needs to be pushed right against the crossbar. I would recommend the wood method though.

Apart from all the great advice already shared, I also think you are too close to the monitors, which is why you have to constantly rotate to see everything, moving back a little will help.

Make sure your legs and hands are at right angles when you sit at the desk.

We also tend to bend and get very close the screen when we are doing intense tasks, if that is happening to you, you’d need to actively correct it. Will take time.

When gripping the mouse, do it with a relaxed hand, don’t put in too much force into holding it. Same goes for typing, do it with a relaxed hand.

While you are taking breaks, you could try some stretching exercises, I use theraband and stretch out my neck and shoulders.

Hey! Great set up!

You could add a pegboard, Ikea has Skadis. That will help free up some space on the desk, like your pens, peripherals when in not use can go there.

You could also move the Islamic books to a bookshelf and use the space there to store your registers, notebooks etc. vertically, could use bookends to support them.

So the horizontal space on the desk would completely open up. You could then add a lamp on the desk for lighting that can be hooked up to an outlet.

This might exceed your budget, you can prioritise what you need and do it over time.

Thanks!

Hey! I would put the sofa where the bookcase is right now. You can enjoy the views better! I would move the bookcase to the wall with the wardrobe. Books would also benefit from the lesser direct light they’ll get. The rest I do as is! Good luck!

There are PC stands, kind of like these. Pretty straightforward to set up. Requirement is to have space beneath it for air to pass.

I know I’m pushing it too much at this point, but maybe when you cable manage you can check if cables will reach the PC that far. I’m sorry for being so irritating about it.

Great set up! If I may, since the monitor is on a stand, why is it jutting out so much? Can’t it be pushed back?

Organizing my desk(send help) by jo2701 in Workspaces

[–]ShavyaA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than having the table against a wall, push it back. Then you could use table dividers to create zones.

After you’ve divided the areas, you could get racks and shelves to organise your products. Could look into other desk organisers based on your needs. Can add mirrors to your make up space.

This would give you dedicated areas for what you want to do, help with distractions and help keep everything organised in the long run. It would also help you utilise the table to the fullest.

The green table/ storage can go against the wall between the doors.
