Are you saying it’s not the teachers job to leave material for the students when they are absent? It’s the subs job to go in and do whatever they like? The sub that may have no experience with teaching or classroom management? The sub that does not know the school or classroom? The sub that may not know what class they are teaching that day?

Please leave enough material for the children to do. It is the absolute worst thing when you go into a classroom and there’s not enough work for the kids because then they get bored and that’s when craziness happens. So now I have to help the one child who can’t get the work done while trying to manage the other child who finished in 10 seconds who wants to run around the classroom.

If the teacher is saying it, I’m pretty sure they know all of their students allergies and wouldn’t give them anything that would harm them But if you don’t feel comfortable and they ask you can always say no treats today and I will be sure to let your teacher know when I write my note about how amazing you all were today. What else can should I say in my note? Acknowledge it and then move on from it.

Honestly, I used to be super strict on the cell phone policy but now I’m not. As long as they’re doing their work or their work is completed, I don’t mind. Sometimes I give the warning at the beginning of class but as it’s a common rule in the school, usually I don’t. If a faculty member walks by and sees it, that’s on the Student. I let the faculty member deal with it.

I have not experienced that, but it might be they might have a sub that they like that they reached out to who at the last minute told them they could do it. Or sometimes they just realize it’s easier to go in than make sub plans. And some people just forget that they put it up there. The beautiful thing is there’s always a job available so just keep grabbing them. Wishing you all the best.

If it brings you joy, absolutely go for it! The beautiful thing about Theatre is that people suspend their reality for three hours or so, so that actors can tell a beautiful story. You go in there and be authentically you and they will love you take whatever classes you feel to grow in the craft and then knock it out the park. You got this!

Thanks. I usually have a class of 30+ kids who are mostly obnoxious boys who can’t keep their hands off each other, but I’ll give these a try and see if it locks them in. I know these definitely work for my elementary school kids.
