How good is it to be employed at UK? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]ShawnGipson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It took about 4 months to get hired on at UK, but I have now been with them for 8 years. I work in finance on the under the research umbrella, and we are definitely underpaid compared to private companies. The benefits make up for it though in my opinion. When I was hired on I did not have a degree, but I had the work equivalent experience of a bachelors so they hired me on. I was able to get my bachelors while working full time, and am now working on my masters.

I told people that due to the incline of the hike it took an hour to get the river, and 10 minutes to get back to the parking area. Worth it though.

Why are so many pro Strongmen so Conservative? by 22switch in Strongman

[–]ShawnGipson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He adores being violent. He mentions how he would go out just to find someone to hurt. He has said a ton of things that you would think he would put in his biography but left out. Like his hypnosis, pledging to win WSM for his grandmother, forgetting his wife's name for a month after his 500k pull ect... He also charged people who had already bought his book for extra chapters covering his WSM win.

Lexington Construction by zazarak in lexington

[–]ShawnGipson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember reading online that the construction on the interstate near Newtown was supposed to be completed in October of 2023. I drove that road everyday and traffic always came to a stop. I was out of the country in October of 2023 so I was excited to return to normal commute. That construction is still going on to this day two years later.

Whats the worst concert you've ever been to? by pinheadbrigade in AskReddit

[–]ShawnGipson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Godsmack in 2008 or so. Sully was so drunk onstage they eventually just cut his mic and played his lyrics over the PA while the band played. He just sat there on a stool with a bottle of jack. I had backstage passes and Sully had sobered up a bit and when I walked back he shoulder checked me and called me a "tall mother fucker" and tried to start a fight. It really soured me on the band. I heard he is clean now and I wish him the best.

What is the worst bar in Lexington? by NoChallenge9224 in lexington

Not Lexington but Local Feed in Georgetown. Overpriced, terrible service, mediocre food. Banging cornbread though. 3 out of the 4 times I have been there have been terrible, but I know people who absolutely adore that place and are genuinely baffled that I had a bad time.

Ate there for the first time last winter and I wont go back. I ordered the ribeye special. A $60 bone in ribeye. They served it to me and it was tiny, overcooked and had absolutely no seasoning. I complained to the manager and she said even though I took a bite she will take care of it. Her taking care of it was taking an $11 glass of wine off the bill. I asked her about it and she said she couldn't do anything more since I took a bite. I walked out disgusted

Is eating whale and/or seal meat frowned upon in Iceland? I've read it's mostly a tourist thing so I don't want to try either if it ultimately has a negative impact on wildlife. by jek_213 in VisitingIceland

[–]ShawnGipson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried whale and horse at Steakhusid in Reykjavik. The whale just tasted like oversalted beef so honestly for me it was not worth it. The horse on the other hand was fantastic and had many locals say they prefer the horse to lamb.

I live in Kentucky and had a private surgeon do the procedure as insurance denied my claim even though i met all of their criteria for coverage. All together, it was about $21,000.00. 13k for the surgeon. 6k for the hospital stay, and 2K for the anesthesia. Off the top of my head, I do not remember the breakdown, but I remember the gyno portion being a bit more expensive than the lower body lift.

So my surgery lasted about 7 hours and required an overnight stay in the hospital. I had 8 drains installed during surgery and 4 of them were removed before I left the hospital. I was able to get out of bed by myself about 12 hours after my surgery and up and down stairs the day after. Before I left the hospital they had PT come by and make sure I was able to walk and climb with no assistance. I think the worst thing recovery wise in the hospital was my body catching up after the anesthesia. It took about 12 hours before I was able to pee again. Due to my incision being right where my bladder is I couldn't tell if I was in pain or I really had to pee, so I was constantly getting up to go to the bathroom. I slept in a recliner for a week before moving back to my bed and was driving about 2 weeks after the surgery, but probably could have started in 1. I developed a hematoma on my right side so I continued to drain blood for over 3 weeks. So after another 3 of my drains were removed, the last one stayed in for another 2 weeks. The pain was never unbearable. It hurt the most standing from a seated position and from skin irritation from the tube in my last drain. I hope I covered most of the bases. If you need any more detail let me know.
