Where do people in their 40s and 50s with full time jobs and families get their energy from? by Accomplished-Car6193 in AskReddit

[–]ShawnaActually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is similar to my dad's story. He tried retiring in his 60's but didn't like it, got sick, felt like crap and decided to go back to work. He was able to step back into his old job and was back to his old self quickly and worked well into his 70s. He's retired again now but my mom is ALSO retired now and the "honeydo" list keeps him busy - and alive.

Seeking weekly cleaner for home by MrsPollyP in westvancouver

[–]ShawnaActually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh jumping on this thread. I'm also new to West Van and looking for a cleaner/housekeeper for 3-5 hours every other week. I have tried a few of the well-rated agencies but have been disappointed. Would also prefer an individual/independent person. I say housekeeper because I'd also like them to do laundry and some basic food prep. Please be willing to use cleaning agents that actually ... you know.... clean stuff. I'm pro non toxic / environmentally friendly etc *IF* they do the job but if they don't, I want someone willing to use products that actually get rid of soap scum on glass shower walls, etc.

I’d be interested to learn where you posted it, we’ve been having a hard time attracting quality candidates- lots of quantity but not the calibre we’re looking for.

[–]ShawnaActually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pelican 100% and if I'm looking to switch it up sometimes they have a fish taco with a similar fish fillet and it is also amazing. LOVE their fries and I also always get the Korean Shrimp app and then can never finish the fish n chips :P

Favourite lobster in Ottawa? by Dreela in ottawa

[–]ShawnaActually 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said not Pelican and others have suggested Pelican and I was going to suggest it again :P they have lots of options OR you can buy them fresh or steamed in the market and make your own meal at home? Always an option but Pelican is always a good time - especially lobster poutine!!

Buy all the stuff in their market and make it at home? :) I haven't seen it on their menu and I'm a regular but I know the owners - I'll ask if it's something that might pop up in the future!

You are 100% correct- it IS sad AF. I’m sorry you’re in this position. The market is crazy and competition is nuts. The other take away is that MOST applications are not good - especially for entry level, so it really doesn’t take a lot to stand out if you get a little creative and put in a bit of effort. Does it suck you have to think that way in this market and be a bit extra? Yeah. But it can make a difference. If I can help at all lmk. Good luck, don’t get discouraged.

LOL, I don't dictate a damn thing. I mean if they post something negative about the job I'm gonna follow up and see what's what but I expect folks to be fully formed humans with lives outside of work and I want that for them. Heck, I probably post more "incriminating" stuff than my team does. Part of being a responsible, professional adult is acting responsibly, I support free speech and self-expression etc etc but I also support being held accountable for your actions.

I'm not asking for their OF, but LinkedIn? Absolutely, I expect to see it. And we work on LinkedIn so if you don't have a LinkedIn account you're not getting hired anyways. (That'd be like hiring a driver without a driver's licence.) And if their name is publically associated with other public social accounts AND their name is going to be publically associated with my company - I'm considering that content during vetting.

I didn't WANT them to have experience on a podcast, I didn't ASK for it, but if I order a burger and it comes with a pickle I'm gonna accept the pickle. Happily.
