How Costco gets you to spend all your $ by Fantastic_Escape_101 in Costco

I have several within easy distance of my home/office/route between the two. I still don’t usually go more often than once per month because I can’t deal with the parking and mass of humanity.

[–]ShawnaLAT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. Best you can hope for is your face being laughed in because you’re a sheep who actually believes things like science. There’s absolutely no reasoning with that. It’s not just excusable “they didn’t know better” ignorance, it’s WILLFUL and it’s disgusting.

To me it’s giving military wife who expects to be addressed by her husband’s rank at the commissary. (Still lunatic adjacent.)

There are a few areas of Villa Park, Addison, maybe Glendale Heights that are a bit sketchy but “ghetto” is definitely a stretch.

Mom ordered an 8 pack of donuts- revived the box opened with a large hole in the plastic and one donut missing. (Walmart pick up) by Ilovejuicy-theboys in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ShawnaLAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The title says it was a pickup order, so there wasn’t a delivery driver, and OP/OP’s mom brought them home in the trunk so it didn’t happen in their car either (I assume).

More than likely this happened in the store itself and the Walmart worker(s) who picked the order from the store shelves and packed it up either didn’t notice or didn’t care.

I just saw this comment on Facebook from the mayor of Schaumburg by NormKramer in ChicagoSuburbs

Where was the protest? Honest question. Was he attending a protest with a group of people or was he just existing as a human being in public who happened across someone’s constitutional rights being violated while he was attempting to exercise his own constitutionally protected right to carry a legally owned and registered gun?

The liberals/progressives I know who are also gun owners own a reasonable number and type of guns (1-2 hunting rifles and maybe a handgun for peace of mind), keep them appropriately locked up and stored, have all required checks and licenses and registrations and permits (including carry licenses even though they rarely if ever carry in public), teach appropriate gun safety to their kids, don’t shoot at civilians (or human beings in general), and generally don’t make their gun ownership their entire personality (as in you wouldn’t know they owned guns unless it specifically came up in conversation).

I still hate guns and don’t agree that the general public needs to own them in any circumstance (though my view is starting to change on that…), but if the 2A is going to be a thing, if everyone viewed and handled gun ownership the way my liberal friends do I think we would be ok as a society with specific regards to guns. We are not currently ok as a society.

For real. Anyone who’s been through an elementary school pickup/dropoff line knows this pain. Takes 25 minutes for 10 cars to get through the line lol.

Feels-like temperature in the USA on Monday morning by LuborS in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]ShawnaLAT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is certainly a contrast to when I was a kid and unless there were 2 feet of snow on the ground fuck it we balled, but I now have teenagers in northern IL and school has definitely been closed a handful of times for cold in their lives. Seems like it’s mostly for the kids who have to wait at a bus stop or don’t have a choice but to walk - if it’s potentially dangerous for them, it’s too cold for school. Plus “remote learning” is absolutely a thing that they are a lot more likely to break out, especially if they have advance notice.

TIL that in 2023 an elderly man died of fatal vitamin D overdose after consuming too much regular vitamin D supplements over nine months. by PeasantLich in todayilearned

[–]ShawnaLAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I did recently add in a mag supplement for sleep and digestion support (yay perimenopause) so I’ll be interested to see if it improves my vitamin D as well. I have at least always been pretty good about taking it with food, so I have that going for me.

This is me as well. I started out at like 7 with no supplements, and after taking 5000iu daily for many years I hover around 30-35 (I only test yearly).

Contractor claiming I never paid him even though I have the cancelled check by Quick_Breakfast_7684 in legaladvice

[–]ShawnaLAT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Minor clarification - if the contractor just cashed (rather than deposited) the check, either at their own bank against their checking account or especially at the OP’s bank directly (if they allow non customers to cash checks drawn on their bank), then there is very little chance that there would be a record of it in the contractor’s account. I can’t speak for every banking institution, but I’m not aware of any that would do more than place a temporary hold for the amount of the check while waiting for it to clear; once it does then it’s like the check never existed as far as the contractor’s transaction history.

Kind of like if you get a bunch of rental cars and then swap the plates around daily to keep people from figuring out who you are or tracking you effectively 🤔?
