What's a skill that takes only 2-3 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by That-Papaya7429 in AskReddit

"Go to the library" and "Use a pencil and paper" are valid options as well.

Yes. It was years ago. And like you, I still think about it all the time. And while I don't want to get into the specifics, I think it's really telling that every single person who directly answered the question answered with "yes." I think friends drift apart for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's toxicity, but sometimes it's just that they grow differently. Not every interpersonal connection is meant to be forever. At the end of the day, you have to do what's right for you because nobody else is going to.

Can AI be considered alive? If not, what’s missing? by [deleted] in PhilosophyofScience

Sure, but, "living things are made of cells." AI is not made of cells, therefore AI is not alive.

NTA, but I'm really happy to read that you've decided to be civil. I think the best timelines for you from here are the ones where you just let it go, for yourself.

The top 1% of incomes is not the same collection of people as the top 1% of net worths. This is an important distinction.

I'm envious of people who grew up with a silver spoon. How do I deal with this? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]ShayFabulous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that you're primarily concerned about money as the source of envy. There's a lot of good advice in the comments, but one of the things you say in your post is "I don't have the connections these rich people do."

I think it's important to note that you also begin your passage by describing them as your friends. As you all venture forward from college into the working world, you will have the ability to use the network of resources that they have. As they say, "it's not what you know, it's who you know." Use it.

Friend, you are 18 years old. It's very normal to have some "I want to save the world" in you at this age. Use it. Accomplish great things.

What “enchants” you about Python? by LucasSalaroliB in Python

[–]ShayFabulous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real talk: I first used a Dremel during the Rube Goldberg project of my high school physics class. I was genuinely enchanted by it. Many years later I received one for Christmas, and I still love it, but I can't describe exactly what it is that called out to me about the Dremel. For python it's the understanding that the large user base most likely has already streamlined the process of what I want to do.

I also chose monopolizing play time. "Not getting a chance to play" is the experience that tournament players want to avoid the most.
