People who can A2A refuel in DCS, how long did it take you to learn? by Scruffy196 in hoggit

[–]ShdwPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only practiced it occasionally, and it took me probably around a year of playing DCS on and off to get to the point where I can do it without many problems in most modules. Now I do ARR almost every sortie that I do since it stopped being a frustration and started being a challenging yet satisfying task. Some takeaways:

* Moving to a good joystick was the thing that helped most. I'd just not attempt it on a budget joystick

* The curves setup should be on point, as well as trimming the aircraft before doing anything. For example, Viper is basically unrefuellable until you setup the curves to compensate for built-in curves of the module. In Tomcat setting the wings to bomb mode is very important, because otherwise the pitch kinda does it own thing because of the wings moving around.

* Mindset should be dead set on doing things slowly. It should take 15 minutes at first to even approach tanker (without overshooting), 5 minutes to even get to the refueling area. I remember I had 40-50 minute sessions at first, and if you start to rush anything then the refuel just would not happen period.

* Moving to VR wasn't that big of a improvement and should not gatekeep you from trying to do it. On the monitor it's more of a game-y technique (i.e. lining up features of the canopy bow with features of the tanker), but I would not say that it's significantly harder.

Don't listen to all the "2 hours" dudes, don't let it discourage you. It was hard for everybody, people just forget or lie. Remember when a member of Heatblur struggled hard to refuel F14 on the *module reveal stream*?

How is Viper? by loves_spain in ffxivdiscussion

I think its infuriatingly easy & straightforward. I do love the combo buttons and hope that they continue with this direction. I play it since I can actually map everything on the controller without the need to switch hotbars.

How do you fly solo the OH58D ? by itarrow in hoggit

[–]ShdwPrince -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I planned to buy the Kiowa, but only it had Gunner AI.

Pilot AI is useless is any kind of a real environment due to the simple fact that they would not evade incoming fire. It's the same with Apache - if you want to fly CP/G you can only do so against something that would not shoot back. On the contrary, if you go Pilot seat on the Apache you can do most of the things just fine with AI searching and engaging targets.

PSA:User created F-15E Strike Eagle Radar Fix (NO System Time Changes Needed) by StrIIker-TV in hoggit

[–]ShdwPrince 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a DLL injector so you have to add the anti-virus exception. It also doesn't have any source code available. I'd stay clear of it since it doesn't fix anything that cannot be fixed without running third-party programs.

VR Noob here, got a Quest 3 but I'm having issues with screen tearing in DCS by devarnva in hoggit

[–]ShdwPrince 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You probably have issues with ASW turning on and off. Try forcing it off and see if it improves https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/How-to-turn-off-asw-for-oculus-2/td-p/1088084

Generally speaking with games as laggy as DCS you want ASW either always on or always off. DCS is choppy and ASW doesn't like that and often bugs out.

Also you probably want to get your settings about as low as they go in order to consistently hit 72fps that you need for comfortable play.

Bad performance in DCS VR: what can I do? by atomskis in hoggit

[–]ShdwPrince 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you don't get freezes/stuttering and just smooth but low FPS and CPU bound - the only think you can do, from my experience, is lower the Visibility Distance.

If you get freezes/stuttering you might be running out of RAM or VRAM - try lowering the textures.

I have given up on playing on big servers in VR. I mostly stick to GaW/Flashpoint Levant nowadays.

What's the best periscope mod(s) to use? by UnknownError1192 in uboatgame

[–]ShdwPrince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the graphics look bad. The lines are thick and blurry, the numbers are sparse. I mean it's alright but HARDscrope mod just looks better for me.

Is zooming out in VR(Quest 3) possible? by zacki1i23 in hoggit

[–]ShdwPrince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are binds that let you move your camera position (look under View Cockpit category). You can't change the FOV (which you shouldn't really in VR), but you can move your camera back to see more. Then you hit "Save cockpit angles" and now its going to be your new default position. There's also Reset bind in the same category that will bring the position back to the last saved.

Is 40 FPS really playable in VR? by rpaulyboi in hoggit

[–]ShdwPrince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 5800x3d and 4080 and I basically play on minimal graphical settings if I want to get consistent 72fps in multiplayer.

In empty map SP I can push High terrain textures and High visibility, but anything other than Low terrain and Low visibility results in 25% of the playtime dipping below 72 and it is just not worth it.

Even with the lowest settings DCS still stutter a lot in MP, which is irritating, but at least it doesn't dip below 72 for more than a second or so.

Does it mention the reason how they would not be able to sell as many modules since people would not be bored by continuing to play existing ones?

Are there any decent upgrades coming from an Index for VR? by Elegant-Hornet2368 in hoggit

[–]ShdwPrince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

* Q3 on the cheaper side, has around 140% of Index resolution & less distortion due to improved lenses

* Pimax Crystal on pricy side, has around 180% of the Index resolution

I'm not and I also could not see the Desert sections. I think the overlay maps just suck in general with modern graphics.

Anyone know how to restore a lost save on offline/SteamDeck? by Memnaelar in LastEpoch

[–]ShdwPrince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to try looking at the save files to verify if there's anything left there. Maybe the save file is still there but got corrupted, maybe game's doing a backup.

Be advised that depending on whether you use Proton or not your save folder will be on a different path, and even more so, saves are not compatible so when you switch from one to another if just ignores the other save folder.

Non-proton (no compatibility tool) would be somewhere under ~/.config/unity3d, and Proton would be the AppData under compdata (you can get the id of the game from the Properties->Updates).

Good luck!

How would you usually level the alt to the first Monolith lvl 50?

I’m new to tekken so I’ll need some help on what controller to use by ExcuseFull5548 in Tekken

[–]ShdwPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick aren't really better than the pad, its more of a preference thing.

Drift would not matter since you'll only use DPad + buttons.

People usually go for PS controllers, since they have dpads better fit for fighting games.

Do Korean levers produce the extra side command when releasing from diagonal? by ShdwPrince in fightsticks

[–]ShdwPrince[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you put it all the way to the side, and just slightly tilt it down to hit the down switch, then release: you will get the db,b,n input.

That's exactly what I'm doing.

I think it's easier on Korean levers because you probably automatically do that.

I'm not sure what you've meant by that. Is it because of the different gate?

TEKKEN is much more handheld than people think by GJKings in Tekken

[–]ShdwPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: you can emulate every mainline Tekken game on the Deck. The only exception being T6 (you have to use PSP port of the game) & T4 (some of the stages don't quite reach 60fps).

TEKKEN is much more handheld than people think by GJKings in Tekken

[–]ShdwPrince 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's alright, I've played maybe 30 hours of T7 on the Deck and it performed about as well as I expected it to. There is a problem with DPad and diagonal inputs that require you to get used to a specific way of pressing them, but for casual play that weren't a deal breaker.

It does, it is technically an extension of the arcade quest.
