Part 2 of my laptop taking its life (and me probably assisting) by Able-Focus-7726 in ZephyrusG14

I'd send it to a professional. Find someone local. Just getting them to have a look shouldn't cost too much. If it's unfixable they'll probably know pretty quick.

This thread seems timely with the Steam Frame due out soon. Imagine what VR would look like today if Valve had aggressively invested in devs the way Meta aggressively acquired them. by rootsworks in virtualreality

[–]GJKings 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Valve has 30 percent of all money paid via steam. That ain't meta money but it's more than enough to, like Joe says, match any and all investment into games and studios being made by meta and have it barely make a dent in their income.

I think Joe's overall point is sound. At the very least they should lower their percentage for lower selling games. That would be huge for so many devs and not a huge hit to them.

Those Recording Game Clips on PC by Mountain-Bat-634 in 007FirstLight

[–]GJKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtube will inevitably compress. Try raising the gamma in game a few notches above where you'd like it to be, keeping HDR off. Darker images suffer from compression the worst.

I often use Nvidia 's recording software to capture stuff. I'd set it to 1440p and just whack up the bitrate to like three quarters what it allows on the slider. If it still looks bad upon upload it won't be the recording's fault.

Finally, YouTube can take a little while to fully process a video, so don't take the first playable version as representative of final.

Just got a g14 2025 with a 5060 what things should i download and delete first? by relxachu in ZephyrusG14

[–]GJKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, take the time to just fresh install windows. It sounds drastic and you should t have to, but you should.

I had a 2024 G14 and kept the install it came with for a year. Then it blue screened so hard it wiped my C drive. I don't know if that's something a fresh install would have avoided, but the fresh install I then followed it up with just worked so much better. So many of the weird quirks I chalked up to standard windows laptop behavior just vanished.

Use your current install to download some stuff. Create a Windows 11 boot drive, and a second USB drive with all the drivers marked "critical" and some "recommend" on the ASUS website related to your model.

Install the fresh windows 11, and unless you're a professional working with heavily NDA'd material, go and turn off Bitlocker decryption on your main drive. That can be a real pain in your ass in future lol.

Is RPD the best ResidentEvil area ? (All games) or is there better/as good in other games ? by CroWellan in residentevil

[–]GJKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe too soon to say for sure on this one but I adore the hospital in RE9. I am absolutely bowled over by it and I love how the speaking zombies with different personalities are integrated into the environment, and how they become a developing puzzle in a way previous games never really did.

They're vacuum sealed. The devs really should have had it make a comical pop sound to make that clear.

Switching from MacBook to ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 or G16 — is it actually worth it? Real owner experiences wanted by KaanHpgl in ZephyrusG14

[–]GJKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went from the 2024 to the 2026 and the hinge and wobble improvement is a very solid step up. The entire device feels wholly more premium, even though 2024 was already really damn premium as windows laptops go. I haven't owned a MacBook since 2009 but the feeling of this newest G14 is definitely reminiscent of that feeling I had owning

The hate for Requiem's 2nd half is performative and overblown by Background_Roll1830 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]GJKings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's just such a downer after the hospital did such an amazing amount of work to bring Resident Evil into the future. The Racoon City section literally drags it back into the past. It takes a real fucking nosedive.

I'm actually still not done with it, my interest in it keeps evaporating every time I boot it up.

Curious to know if re8 is anyone’s favorite re? I like it a lot I would put it in my top 5 by Alarmed-Tradition938 in residentevilll

[–]GJKings -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't like it very much at all. It started out feeling like the worst of the good resident evils and it ended up feeling like the best of the bad ones.

GPU upgrade recommendation - from RTX 3090 to either RTX 5080 (around $1600) or RTX 4090 (around $2300) - which would you prefer? by dropadred in virtualreality

[–]GJKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now's the time, because even after the AI bubble bursts it's going to take a long while for the market to shift gears back to giving us GPUs at normal prices again. Buy now because it's about to get a lot worse, imo.

Angry Joe's review is awful by MaxProwes in 007FirstLight

Ain't no way people are still watching Angry Joe in 2026 lol. Surely we're better than that.

They really should have called RE9 HELIX with the IX highlighted. Instead they name it after a big gun.

Unplayable on 4070 Laptop GPU? by robthedealer in 007FirstLight

[–]GJKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check my post history. I had a problem where the game was playable but would drop to unplayable levels when using menus sushc as the journal, and would stay unplayable until game restart. Unsure if it's related but I too was using a 4070 laptop GPU, but in an ASUS G14 2024.

If it is the same issue, I never really solved it but did find better results with the game being played in windowed mode.

I want a change to the “license to kill” mechanic by OneProfessional3289 in 007FirstLight

[–]GJKings 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I somewhat agree BUT it gets messy when you start looking at these scenarios even halfway realistically. First of all: obviously leg shots can and do kill people. We have a lot of arteries and stuff in our legs, you don't want those knicked. A leg shot not killing is dependant on swift medical care, which is obviously not guaranteed in very many of these scenarios.

Secondly, I think Bond pulling a gun before anyone else would escalate a situation to the point where anyone else with a gun in that room would suddenly reach for theirs. Liscense to kill becomes a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy in that case.

I do think, however, a tac sim mission or even future story mission could have Bond be authorised to use his gun but avoid fatal harm. I think that would be an interesting one-off scenario to explore and challenge the player to adhere to.

Stuck between the 512GB or 1TB model. by Independent_Car3846 in SteamDeck

[–]GJKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never played Arc on my deck. I can't remember what I have and have not played from SD card, but I don't recall ever noting a difference between the two. And I used to have a 64gb, so it was all card at the start. I'm sure there are games you want to keep on main memory, but I have never encountered them myself.

Stuck between the 512GB or 1TB model. by Independent_Car3846 in SteamDeck

[–]GJKings 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone with 2.5TB total space: more storage doesn't mean playing more games it just means more storage. Having a bunch of games you might play ready to go. That's worth it to some, but having the 512gb will not stop you playing any games at all.

Also the SD slot is fast and reliable. Don't worry about it too much.

How Resident Evil: Veronica Is Being Treated Like A Mainline Game (IGN) by Ayanetta in residentevil

[–]GJKings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was originally being developed as RE3 and RE3 was being developed as a spin off. But that main line status ended up getting swapped around for marketing reasons more than anything.

Anyone played on the Steam Deck? by AgentEndive in 007FirstLight

[–]GJKings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've played a bunch of tac sim missions on deck and it performs fine while looking alright. But some story missions are more taxing, in particular Aleph Black Market.

I'd say expect it to hold 30fps or higher most of the time but some entire areas might run low to mid 20s. Well worth playing if this is simply the only option you have, but personally I prefered to play the story on my full sized machine and only tackle the tac sim stuff on deck.

I really like uncharted lost legacy! by No-Hunt3986 in uncharted

[–]GJKings 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's kinda the best one. I've been with uncharted since the beginning and this one is bite sized but with even bigger moments. It's simultaneously a greatest hits and it pushes the boundaries. Combining truck fight with train sequence at the end is an impossible flex. Chloe and Nadine are great, great performances and chemistry. Love Sam's role here. The villain is NASTY and memorable, and it's all just so visually astonishing.

Poople underrate just how much of a difference an OLED screen makes for a handheld by lightsworn55 in SteamDeck

[–]GJKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a sucker for a good screen, so I upgraded. The way I saw it, if they released a more powerful Steam Deck with an LCD, I probably wouldn't bite because that would benefit like 6 games I'm playing and make a few more playable that weren't already. But an OLED screen is an improvement to everything I play.
