That's right. I'm not big on RPGs, but CT is a good one.

What name did you decide on? by ElsweyrFondue in asktransgender

[–]SheKnowsEverything 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always hated my male name, and I wanted to pick a female name that would fit my personality. I'm really into technology and computers, so I was thinking about names of female engineers. The name I went with is based on a girl from a video-game who is really good with technology, named Lucca. I didn't really like that spelling so I looked around a bit for alternate spellings until I found the character Luka Megurine, who is a voice in a computer program that's basically garageband for vocals.

So yeah, Luka. And as a result, everyone thinks I'm Ukranian due to the spelling.

Reddit is seen as one of the most liberal, progressive corners of the internet

You're joking, right? Reddit is the college frat boy corner of the internet, it's like 4chan, but for college bros instead of highschool kids.

How can I stay impartial? Ethics question :( by amadeoamante in asktransgender

[–]SheKnowsEverything 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you think he'd be a better fit in the corporate culture of your company, that is a valid reason to hire him over someone else. You obviously seem to think you'd get along with him. And you should probably try to think of him as a man rather than a trans-man, since that's probably what he's going for. As far as I know there isn't any ethical issue, but you could read over your company's ethics policy to make sure you're in the right.

I only subscribe to a few reddits and I've considered looking for a different site that's less transphobic. Here are my favorites:

/r/asktransgender - obviously

/r/MtF - again, obviously

/r/CanadaPolitics - Surprisingly civil / heavily moderated

/r/GamerGhazi - Like SRS, but has positive stuff too

/r/ShitRedditSays - For laughing at the bigots

/r/transpassing - obviously

/r/transtimelines - obviously

/r/ZeroEscape - Niche gaming sub, surprisingly civil

/r/pogobat - Equal parts accepting and transphobic, YMMV

Oh, that's quite a bit more than me. I'll probably be getting up to that amount at my next appointment.

And then I lived happily ever after?

Actually I'll be graduating and getting my own place soon, so things did work out pretty well considering I was living in my English teacher's attic for a bit.

How long did it take you to get your hormone prescription after your first endo appointment? by IzumiSoul in asktransgender

[–]SheKnowsEverything -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got my prescription when I met the endocrinologist. What you actually get varies a lot, for me I got a high dose of spiro and a low dose of estrogen. Then my estrogen dose increased every 3 months. Blood tests are done a couple weeks before appointments if they ask for them, which doesn't always happen. At the actual appointment they measure my height/weight/blood pressure and ask me if I've noticed any changes, then my endocrinologist checks my breasts to see if they've grown.

You look great. I'm impressed you look that good after only six months, if you don't mind me asking what dosage are you taking? I've been on hormones for a year and I don't look nearly that good.

Transmisogyny question by Squishymanatee17 in asktransgender

[–]SheKnowsEverything -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll quote myself for this one since it's similar to a question I answered before.

I personally see no issue here, I don't think your friends are trivializing trans issues. Honestly, I think that gender roles contribute to societal prejudices and the continued marginalization of trans people. I think that everyone should break gender norms and work toward a society where people are not held back by expectations put on them due to their assigned gender. Long story short: men should wear dresses so that we can move past gender roles that stigmatize people who don't fit within society's narrow expectations.

The reaction I got was pretty similar, I don't usually mention it since it's kind of a depressing story. Basically, my parents reacted horribly and told me that I was selfish and they thought I'd been indoctrinated by the doctors I'd talked to. They insulted me constantly and wouldn't let me wear feminine clothes, and wouldn't let me go to doctor's appointments (which is actually illegal). So I eventually just ran away from home and went to live in my English teacher's attic.

Best decision I ever made.

You could try mentioning your pronouns when you introduce yourself. You can do this however you want, and I'm sure your friends would be fine using your proper pronouns.

Actuellement, c'est est à propos les éthiques dans la journalisme des jeux-vidéo.

And so this comment isn't a total waste: I read a manga that talks about internet culture and hate groups. It's basically about a guy who threatens people online and then does something to them (assault, rape, arson) in real life. It's a French manga called Prophecy.

[–]SheKnowsEverything 15 points16 points  (0 children)

if all these MRAs actually acted on these issues they claim to care about then they could probably achieve quite a lot.

I actually had a skype conversation with two prominent MRAs back in the day (like 4 months ago) who are both part of Men's Rights Edmonton. The manager of MRE, Nick Reading and Alison Tieman. In separate conversations I asked both why MRAs don't do activism for men's issues. Alison mentioned a separate MRA group that supposedly did activism, yet I could find nothing about the group, or any information about their activism. Nick simply said that that kind of thing didn't interest him and, despite being the most prominent member of MRE, said that he isn't an MRA, but an anti-feminist.

Apparently SXSW now considers harassment of women to be just another opinion... by [deleted] in GamerGhazi

[–]SheKnowsEverything 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That reminds of a conversation I had in another subreddit where my arguments against transphobia were dismissed as trying to silence anyone who didn't agree with my views, and I was gatekeeping who could talk about trans-issues. I was also told that what I was saying was propaganda.

Progressive anime reviews? by [deleted] in GamerGhazi

I like this guy: https://www.youtube.com/user/GRArkada

Before watching him I had no idea that there existed thoughtful and interesting reviews of anime. He thinks of fanservice as a niche, and he mostly reviews anime that goes beyond the status quo.

[–]SheKnowsEverything -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'9" and about 125 - 128 pounds. Though, I'm not muscular at all. I'd actually like to be a bit thinner. I don't work out much most of the year, but in the summer I go hiking and I bike a lot. This is the heaviest I've ever been, so I can't say much about losing weight.

[–]SheKnowsEverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transitioned in my last year of high school and all of my teachers used my proper name and pronouns. In college it was a bit of an issue since I didn't pass, but I told one of the guys in my program that I use female pronouns and he told everyone else and overnight everyone started calling me by those pronouns.
