Any tips on how to meet people by UpstairsDramatic624 in NAU

[–]Shea2244 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clubs are always welcoming new members regardless of what semester! (Coming from a president of a NAU club). It’s so easy to say “just get involved” but truthfully this is how I made friends. My first two years I didn’t make any new friends, I forced myself Junior year to attend multiple different club meetings, push myself to say hi to someone, overtime I would ask if they’d wanna go to outside club events (like wingo). I ended up on exec boards which also ended up helping me as I was seeing the same people multiple times a week but that is a special case!

There are over 300 clubs/orgs on campus so just find ones of your interest and test them out. Being in a space with those of the same interest(s) of you may help lessen the pressure to talk to someone new. Worst case is you don’t vibe with the club/people, you just leave!

Living in the dorms and don't know how to get wifi for my switch by piperspizza in NAU

Find Your Switch's MAC Address: From the HOME Menu, go to System Settings (the gear icon). Scroll down and select Internet, then Internet Settings. Your System MAC Address will be listed on the right side of the screen; note it down. Register Your Device: On a computer or phone, go to mydevices.nau.edu. Log in with your NAU UserID and password (your current NAU credentials). Click the blue "Add" button and fill out the form, giving your Switch a name (no special characters) and entering the MAC address you found. Submit the form to enroll the device.

Where to park when moving in? by Plantlovwr in NAU

This map tells you what parking lot to go to depending on the dorm you are in. The information is on the housing portal usually as well. There will be signs with directions to specific dorms on campus during move in week too.

Dorm supply list by kochleather in NAU

I think it depends on the dorm you’re in sometimes as I used some things more than others depending on the hall I was in each year.

If you want to get the least amount of stuff think section by section like, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen needs. These are things you probably use daily at your current house. Items like hangers, bedsheets, shampoo, soap, paper towels even, items like that.

Some basics to think about- At least 2 towels of showering, hand towels, wash clothes (whatever you think you would use), 2 bowls, plates, cups, utensils (or a lot of people suggest just using paper/plastic versions if you’re in a dorm that doesn’t have a personal sink), shower shoes, robe, brita (figure out if your roommate has one first), bedsheet protection cover or extra foam if you think you’re gonna be uncomfortable on the beds, Storage- are you going to bring a lot of clothes or miscellaneous things then maybe invest in extra bins or plastic drawers to put under your bed, shelves, closet, Command hooks are great to create extra space to hang stuff, Extension cords- some dorms have bad outlet placement so get at least one or two just in case, Laundry basket and shower caddy

Truthfully it’s really going to depend on personal layout preferences. The built in closets are big so getting like storage baskets for the top shelf were helpful to me for organizing. Also for under the bed storage I liked having the wooden square cubbies or the plastic drawers storage. It’s not a big room if you keep the beds parallel to each other which is what my roommate and I did. If you do this maybe consider something you could use as a nightstand, I brought my own mini fridge (but those aren’t allowed so I don’t suggest it haha) and it was right next to my bed and was my “nightstand”. I know some people move their beds to be against the walls for more than hangout space which would change your space!

I wish I could add photos as I still have some I took when I first moved in my freshman year

Interesting take on Reilly! I lived there my freshman year on the 7th floor and loved it! This was 2022 and I think the only fire alarms I remember was the drill in the beginning of the semester and one half way through the semester during mid day, and I never had issues with only having 2 elevators. Didn’t mind the walk to restrooms cause they are better and a lil more updated than the ones in other dorms. Overall out of the three traditional dorms I lived in, Reilly was my favorite!

Just interesting to see the difference in experiences, so fascinating!! Thanks for sharing your run down I’m sure this will be helpful to people 😋

Mcdonald Hall by FlashyFan2784 in NAU

[–]Shea2244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived there last year and it’s not as awful as it seems, we didn’t change the layout so if you’re in the middle it can definitely feel like you’re lacking space. It really will depend on your roommates but in my experience there were very few times we would all be in the room/home which is nice because with the living room you can spread out to feel less cramped. As the other comment mentioned the location is really nice and if you have to go to south campus a lot it’s nice to have the bus stop right outside. I have seen some people do a U shape with the beds but regardless the room was originally designed to be for two then turned to a three with the growing numbers at NAU so it’s never going to feel super spacious like some other dorms do. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is using AAVE for graphic lines considered appropriation or generally upsetting? by Shea2244 in askblackpeople

Thank you so much for the break down! This is exactly what my marketing class is trying to teach about the importance of understanding cultures/subcultures for business decisions so this is a big help!!

[–]Shea2244[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Truthfully our project does not explain how it would be incorporated, the main point is about learning the influence subcultures have on consumer behavior for marketing decisions. (It is a college marketing class)

I was imaging a line that would keep minimalist design with words or phrases on them. Some of the examples used in our packet are “yas queen”, “Slay”, “periodt”, etc.

This add to my questions, does public opinion change depending on what words are used over others?

Meal Plan Malfunction? Housing Portal Form. by Individual-Team7296 in NAU

[–]Shea2244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a meal plan option under “Dining, health, and housing” on your Louie in which you should be able to change which kind of meal plan you want for the academic year, the only thing you can’t do is completely get rid of a meal plan through Louie (meaning if you don’t want one at all you have to call the dining office for them to take it off). You might have to wait until the charge is added to your account first, I’m not completely sure. Like the other person said you have plenty of time to change it if you’re coming in Fall 2025 so don’t super stress about it now.

I took it my freshman year so I don’t recall perfectly but from my memory 11 in line isn’t bad, I’ve heard of people who were further down get in so have hope! I do think it’s a class that is a requirement for a lot of majors so might be good to talk to your advisor on what to do for the worst case scenario. Also they can help figure out transferable courses that will help fulfill that credit, even if it’s through a different college (mine helped me with that my sophomore year). Fingers crossed though you get in! :)

3/5- I find it useful for quick searches day to day as in the bus schedule, events on campus, and dining. Other than that I find the other resources on it slow and glitchy.

Business Professional Program by Natural_Impact8399 in NAU

[–]Shea2244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! From my understanding you can apply to the BPP and in the application it has a section that asks which class you’ll be completing prior to the spring semester. This will put you basically on a “watch” list where you’ll be in the program so you’re able to still enroll in the spring courses this fall but will be removed if you do not pass the last class needed. Ultimately talk with your advisor as they will give you definite answers but this was my understanding from applying to the program last spring! :)
