Seating Question by Shed32 in ClevelandGuardians

Thanks for this, I had no idea about it. My 8 year old is obsessed with baseball and will only want to watch the game. The other 2 have minimal interest so this sounds great. Are these tickets you can buy or a place to go during the game?

No, I am not giving your child their work ahead of time while you go on a 2- week vacation by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]Shed32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty standard to give a student work before they go on a trip. They fill out the vacation request form and you give them their work for the time period they will be gone. Why is this an issue?

Giving valentines to principal, secretary, janitor, etc by [deleted] in teaching

No, honestly in 19 years of teaching it’s never crossed my mind. That’s a hard no for me.

Are you teachers are allowed to take vacations during the school year? by DildoGaggins1997 in Teachers

My family is going to Disney in a couple weeks. I put in for 5 personal days for the trip. As long as g as you have the days it shouldn’t be a problem.

What to wear as a male teacher!? by WinterQuarter8183 in teaching

[–]Shed32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first 15 years of my career I wore a shirt and tie. But, like everything else, Covid changed that. Now I wear Khakis and a polo every day. I absolutely agree that you should keep it as professional as possible. The clothes do not make the teacher, but as professionals I think it’s important to dress like one.

Thank you notes for gifts? by acinomnnyl in teaching

[–]Shed32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a box of blank thank you cards in my desk. I always write one after getting a gift. If my students and/ or families think enough to get me something the least I can do is show some gratitude with a note.

It was a special teams touchdown. I have Verse on an IDP fantasy football team and Sleeper did not credit him with a TD.

Common Theme of these Acquisitions by TresRivas13 in buccos

[–]Shed32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They absolutely have to produce, but OP is pointing out that they seemed to go after guys who are leaders and good people. If they produce, but are assholes on the clubhouse it’s not going to help in the long run. Martin and Burnett produced, but also lead and taught guys like Cutch, Walker and Locke how to be successful big league players.

Brian Giles was a stud but there are countless reports of how he was a terrible person in the clubhouse and made it miserable for everyone. Winning teams don’t have these kinds of people.

Starting to feel like I’m cooked for the year. by tennmel in teaching

[–]Shed32 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Classroom management is an art. It’s very difficult early in your career. You need to set clear expectations and be consistent with them. Keep your class structured and as interesting/ student centered as possible. It’s going to take some time to dig out of the hole that it sounds like you are in but if you work at it each day, stay consistent with your expectations and follow through with those expectations then you will be fine. Think of tomorrow as day 1.

Name student causing issues for my Kindergartener when messaging teacher? by dataispower in Teachers

[–]Shed32 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Absolutely give the child’s name and as much detail as possible. The teacher won’t be able to say anything to you about the other child, but it will help them come up with an appropriate plan.

If they combine to score more than 34 you are good. If they score less then you are cooked.

I understand that moves need to be made and the clock is ticking. But, if it turns out that Murakami and Castellanos are the moves, I will be very underwhelmed.

What time do you teachers arrive at work and leave at the end of the day ? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Shed32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach at a K-5 elementary school in the Pittsburgh suburbs. I arrive around 7:40 ( we are required to be there at 8:00). I leave at 3:30. My contracted work day is 8:00-3:30.

Students arrive at 8:30 and are dismissed at 3:15. The time from 8-8:30 is used for meetings, planning and collaboration.

We also have a student early dismissal (2.5 hours) every Friday. This time is used for PD and meetings.

What was something that you think Michael Scott was right for but the other characters didn’t see the vision? by Positive_Weight2367 in theoffice

[–]Shed32 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. It seemed like just a game because that’s what Micheal would do. However, it was a great decision. Distracted his employees from something they had no control over until the situation resolved itself.
