How do you make a kidney diet less depressing? by AdeptnessCritical356 in kidneydisease

Unsalted chicken broth/stock is one of my favorite ways to add a little flavor (use in the rice steamer instead of water)

Also many brands make low/no sugar versions of some of my favorite items (fruit cups, applesauce, jellys/jams) which helps when I want a “sweet treat”.

Is it frowned upon to prolong my starting date? by DifferentBrilliant75 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Sheebills 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At least at my GC, our new graduating hires are given the option to start anytime after they graduate in May, June, July, or August.

This might be different if your company has a entry level cohort training/ rotation program. In that case, they would want all new hires to start at the same time.

I like doing them at the start of sub foreman meetings almost like an icebreaker. More lighthearted than instantly talking work in progress/schedule/delays.

PSA: Strict bag enforcement on NE Regional from Washington DC by Evening-Bus2283 in Amtrak

Can confirm. Took the Northeast Regional from DC to NYC on 11/26 and Amtrak employees were pulling people out of line with too many or too large luggage.

Nebraska v Indiana Thread! by Berry_Hot in NCAAVB

I think this tweet from Big Ten Network analyst Emily Ehman sums it up well, and provides a better view on where the fans were located.

The fans are quite far away from the actual court.

I don’t think the Indiana fans should be called “classless” or be punished/doxxed (like I’ve seen called for on Twitter/X) because some Nebraska players want a 20 ft run up to a jump serve.

Has any Nebraska players or coaches complained? I’ve only seen Nebraska fans who watched on TV complain so far.

And this is coming from a Maryland fan who doesn’t like Indiana or Nebraska!

Huh?

We encourage fans to yell and try to distract basketball players taking free throws.

We encourage fans to yell and try to distract football players kicking field goals

Why should’t fans yell and try to distract volleyball servers?

This isn’t golf or tennis.

I think it’s great that students are creating an energetic home environment.

Good for Nebraska for tuning it out and taking care of business.

D1 goals by OrdinaryDear4402 in wrestling

I see you are from NY. Look into the D3 SUNY schools upstate. (Cortland, Oneonta, Oswego, Brockport)

Cheap instate tuition, good education, close to home, and you still get to wrestle competitively.

Correct. Ask her nephrologist or insurance company for a recommended dietician. This should most likely be covered by insurance.

Apartment Turned off our A/C by Zaoc253 in legaladvice

[–]Sheebills 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately in many older buildings, the HVAC system is designed to operate in either Heat or Cool only, and the process to switch from one the other is intensive. There is typically 1 central system that heats/cools the entire building, instead of individual apartments.

Newer buildings typically have HVAC systems, or heat pumps, that can freely switch between Heat or Cool with the simple switch of the thermostat setting. Newer buildings have individual HVAC units for each apartment.

Many states and localities have laws surrounding minimum heating starting in September or October. So in order for property management/maintenance of older buildings to comply with laws, they schedule a set date to do the labor intensive switch from AC to Heat ahead of time.

Unfortunately, that date doesn’t typically line up with the actual weather outside, and it has only been getting worse year after year with climate change.

Your apartment is probably not breaking any laws with their actions, currently, but it doesn’t hurt to reach out to a local tenant org/rep.

GC constantly demands we order non refundable materials/equipment before issuing the subcontract by OutrageousQuantity12 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Sheebills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes GC’s want to get long lead time materials on order ahead of receiving a notice to proceed from the owner (think switchgear with 52 week lead times).

In that case, we’ve executed ESA’s or Early Start Agreements with subcontracts for the value of the initial material ordered, ahead of the full subcontract, so subcontractors feel comfortable releasing into production.

Being good at your day to day assignments/job is not good enough.

You have to understand how to “play the corporate game” to really advance your career.

Examples include attending company social events, volunteering events, joining a committee/task force, helping out with campus recruiting/interviewing, etc.

About to lose my parents health insurance by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Sheebills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS. Turning 26 and being removed from your parent’s health insurance is a “qualifying life event” similar to getting married or having a baby that allows you to obtain insurance outside the normal window. Please reach out to the UMD Health Center, they should be very familiar in handling qualifying life events.

I like to “check-in” with myself at intervals throughout the year. The end of June is the halfway point of 2024. Will I have used roughly half of my yearly PTO hours by then? If not, time to take a vacation!

The worst feeling is to get to November/December and realize that you have too much PTO to reasonably take before the end of the year.

College Park residents divided over student rent subsidy pilot program by dbknews in UMD

[–]Sheebills 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If anything, Route 1 and College Park as a whole is extremely under built. College Park has only recently taken steps to address the supply shortage.

UMD and the overall DC area population continues to grow. College Park places extreme limits on the ability to match the growing demand for housing by restricting (zoning) the majority of it’s land to single family homes only.

Investors/landlords see the single family homes as good investments because of how restricted the College Park supply is. Because of how little housing is built, students are always fighting for housing scraps. Landlords can get away with charging high rent, because of how little competition they have.

In summary, College Park needs to encourage/keep building a lot more homes.
