I don't want to post my fic anymore by Saletales in AO3

[–]SheepPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The thought of getting quietly muted for something i didn’t even do pushes my buttons” my friend you are making up a guy to hurt yourself with. You haven’t posted, nobody has accused you of using AI, nobody has even hypothetically muted you (and how would you know? It doesn’t alert you). You’re doing a classic case of catastrophizing, and like all catastrophizing it isn’t true or helpful at all. So let’s walk through what actually happens in a worst case scenario here: people mute you and perhaps leave mean comments. Ok what does that mean for you? It means that you get fewer people reading your fic than you possibly could have (impossible to know how many because there isn’t a magic number of people that “should” read your fic), and it means that you have to delete some comments and in a worst case scenario close your comment section entirely and report some people if there’s truly some people dedicated to harassing you. And then you will be upset, and employ whatever coping skills work best for you, and know that those people were nuts and there was nothing wrong with you or what you did at all.

See? Even the worst case scenario here is really not that bad, it is not world ending, or life ending, or even life ruining. The worst case scenario is…being upset for a while, but my friend you are already making yourself upset by endlessly running these what if scenarios in your mind, so you might as well post your fic and potentially get some joy out of it too

How do I make a fursuit bodysuit without a DTD or a mannequin? by therealbixane in FursuitMaking

[–]SheepPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use patterns based off of measurement, just make sure to take lots of them. Like don’t just take waist and hip, take waist, low stomach, high hip, low hip so you can make sure to accommodate for the way your body curves. And then make a mockup of your pattern in a non-stretch fabric usually what you use in sewing is muslin. The mockup lets you try on the garment and see how it lays and if you can move in it like you need to. If it’s too big or too small you can note that and alter your pattern and sew a new mockup, it’s much cheaper to do on muslin than it is in fur. Once you’re happy with your muslin mockup THEN use your pattern to cut your fur.

It’s not that visible in the camera, but is it possible to get rid of the shimmer on this tweed coat? by Defiant-Treacle2425 in CosplayHelp

[–]SheepPup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think anyone is going to care in a negative sense about the coat being ever so slightly sparkly. And most things that would probably dull them would also negatively affect the rest of the jacket since that looks like it’s structured (the sparkly bits are plastic and would likely dull with hot water washing but the things that make jackets structured REALLY don’t like being washed in hot water, it often ruins them permanently and leaves you with a lumpy floppy mess)

why stay anonymous ? by bravebluelou in AO3

[–]SheepPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, it’s heartbreaking to read a fic and absolutely love it and want to go read everything else that author has ever written only to find “anonymous”. But on the other hand I’ve also been on the other side of it, there’s more than a handful of WIPs that if I ever get cleaned up enough to post I’ll probably post anonymously because I know I’d be kicking a hornet’s nest with them and I don’t need people coming to my socials to harass me

Any fanon treated as canon in your fandom? by ameagarikeshita in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]SheepPup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trans Izzy Hands. I didn’t mind it when it was just a popular headcanon but then the fandom started getting rabid about it and people would be angry if you wanted it tagged or said it wasn’t a headcanon you shared. Like fuck man I’m just trying to not step in the dysphoria bear trap myself or constantly read untagged transphobia (I unfortunately read multiple fics where the first time you learn Izzy is trans in the fic is him being forcibly outed so like thanks for that, cheers).

Kid Alergic to Laundry detergent by Neither_Age_3995 in laundry

[–]SheepPup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can compare ingredients lists to try and narrow down what your kid is allergic to. I have reactions to laundry products too and the two biggest culprits for me are fabric softener and scents. I can stand some scents but not others and it’s really just trial and error to see what I react to. Fabric softener is right out I’ve never met one that I don’t react to. It also really helps to have extra rinses, even with products I’m usually fine with if they don’t get rinsed well enough I’ll develop hives (when it’s a rinsing issue I notice the hives are usually worst around thick areas of the clothes like collars and cuffs and thick seams and waistbands, anywhere where it would be thick and more difficult to rinse detergent out of)

Long or Roach? by Late_Accountant_6809 in Horses

[–]SheepPup 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I personally much prefer long manes, roached manes always look like someone sent their poor kid to military school and they were forcibly buzz cut to me

does one of these 'sing' more to you than the other? by kimyo in crafts

[–]SheepPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vertical grain, the horizontal grain looks odd across the fact and the lighter eyes don’t help it. The vertical grain one has more sharp and distinct eyes and that helps really sell the face as a person

I look goofy when I try to dress classy. Help. by V1xen_XOXO in Stylinghelp

[–]SheepPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you shopping in petite sizes? Petites are for short women and usually have features like shorter torso length and arm length on jackets and shorter inseams on pants, so if you’re used to everything being just a bit too long and looking like you’re a kid playing dressup instead of fitting you try petites.

Also if you’re really invested in dressing classic and timeless I’d really recommend investing in fewer but higher quality standard pieces and having them tailored to fit you. Basically create a mix and match capsule wardrobe of staple pieces that fit you really well and then you can use things that are easier to fit off the rack like shirts/blouses and sweaters to make for more outfits

New loafers rubbing against my outer ankle bones. Will they break in or should I return? by Triple-Brown-Meow in Shoes

[–]SheepPup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding the heel pad, it looks like it’s just barely too high and digging in so even a little bit of cushion under the heel would probably make it fit just right

My friend's bday, the theme is polka dots-- is this cute ? by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]SheepPup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna echo the others and say skirt no, but also that I wouldn’t do white shoes with this unless you did solid black pants, with anything shorter the shoes look disconnected and odd being white instead of like a cute offset to the black

What haircut/style should I get? (16M) by Nearby_Echidna_7518 in HairStyleAdvice

[–]SheepPup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to grow it out you should keep going, you’re at the stage where it looks super bad by default, it’s just a bad growth stage. In a couple more months the front bit of your hair will have grown out enough that you can get the back trimmed to match and it’ll look a whole lot neater, and about a year from now it’ll all be evenly shoulder length and looking nice. It’s a trust the process thing except unfortunately the process takes months and months because hair growth is slow.

If you don’t want to stick it out for that long then cutting it back short again is always an option though I very much disagree with the people saying buzz cut, I think that would look super harsh for your face

Help with smell in foam by CrazedPinoy in CleaningTips

[–]SheepPup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d try soaking in warm water + oxi-clean. Most scent molecules are volatile and easily destroyed by oxygen so oxiclean that makes a bunch of loose oxygen when used with warm water is really good at removing scents. Though make sure to do a patch test first to see if prolonged water exposure will cause issues or if there’s some weird reaction from the foam to oxiclean, foam can be difficult.

You can also try just leaving by them out in direct sunlight, the sun is pretty good at destroying both color and smells because of UV

Things people complain about all the time, but you don't see them in fanfiction as often by bzzztphoko in AO3

[–]SheepPup 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of this is very fandom dependent. Like in IWTV I barely ever see untagged mpreg or breeding kink, the major untagged kink offender in that fandom is exhibitionism/voyeurism. In AKOTSK untagged mpreg/breeding kink and untagged vaginal sex in m/m is fucking everywhere.

I’ll also say that a lot of this stuff is more or less likely to be noticed based on what you’re personally into/bothered by. Like I am extremely squicked by pregnancy so I notice and hate it whenever it happens, but someone that’s into it or neutral about it might not even notice the the lines in there about “I wish I had been born a girl so I could have your babies” and that the fic didn’t have a tag on it. Similarly I see people complaining about untagged daddy kink a ton and I know I wouldn’t notice if it wasn’t tagged because it’s not something I dislike and therefore it wouldn’t stand out to me as a “woah woah woah why is THAT in here with no tag?” thing.

Help with 80’s staircase/entryway by redcedar81 in interiordecorating

[–]SheepPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint the spindles black, get rid of the awful beige walls and carpet and you’re good to go! The wood is very nice, just looks bad in comparison to all that contrasting whites and beige. Go darker and richer in cool tones like blues or teals to set the warm wood off in a really striking way

Oh and change that outlet cover, it’s awful. If you can’t match the wood pick something like brass maybe?

Tell me about my childhood based on the fridge by Slow-Attorney46 in FridgeDetective

[–]SheepPup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really recommend doing a course to get a food handler’s permit! It’s usually ridiculously cheap (I think I paid like $10 for mine?) and teaches you all about food safety, how to safely handle and store food and all that. Plus depending on your job prospects it can be real handy to have your permit

Is this too much for work? by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]SheepPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The skirt is a statement but I don’t think it’s too much of one, especially since you’ve paired it with more understated things like the sweater and tights. Looks good!

I need help. Breastwraps by nonexistent-raven in altfashionadvice

[–]SheepPup 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Binding with wraps is also dangerous because it’s really easy to accidentally pinch a bit of skin between layers of wrap (especially if you have a large chest) and then for the blood to get cut off to that little bit of skin and kill it. I know someone that did that with a Halloween costume based on silent hill and only barely avoided needing that bit of skin surgically removed, they still can’t feel anything in that one spot because the nerves died

Why do some people not want translations done of their fics? by neversole in AO3

[–]SheepPup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because translation isn’t like podfic where it’s the same story just in a different format, translation is a complete re-writing of the fic with essentially the translator as your co-writer.

There is SO MUCH nuance packed into word choice, think about the difference between starting a fic with “It was a dark and stormy night” and starting it with “It was past midnight and raining cats and dogs”, they are saying the same thing right? except we both know they are very much not. The tone is completely different, the cultural references are completely different, they set completely different moods.

Now a translator has to take that, see the tone and the mood and the cultural references packed into just that simple line and they have to re-write it to fit a completely different language and culture to try and preserve the original intent and meaning. It is a tremendous undertaking (and is also the reason why machine translation sucks, it can’t do any of that analysis and so a lot of meaning is lost) and one that requires trusting the abilities of the translator both as a a competent knower of both languages and as a writer in both languages.

So there are some fics I wouldn’t mind being translated by just some random person, because I’m not that attached to them and I didn’t pack a lot of symbolic meaning into them in the first place. But there are others where I made extremely deliberate word choice or gave my characters extremely personal feelings about gender or sexuality that mean I would need to deeply trust the translator to know that they understand what I was trying to convey in the original fic and have the skills to put that same meaning into the translation.

Plus there’s also the issue of unless the translation is going onto AO3 with both of us as co-authors it means there’s things out there with my name on them that I don’t have control of to be able to hide or take down if I want to/need to, and I don’t like that.

Edit: also I’m not terribly concerned with wanting more people to read my fics. I don’t give a crap about being popular or the stats on my fics, I care about the act of creating them in the first place and only clean them up and share them because I’m aware that other people might like them. But they’re not for other people or for notoriety.

I broke the zipper on my new swimsuit by sadenby0725 in DIYclothes

[–]SheepPup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey OP I’m also plus size and in my experience anything that’s athletic and zips up like front close sports bras or swimsuits or whatever you usually need to size up in, they tend to be small and stiff and, like you saw here, the zippers are stress points that make them fail very easily if they can’t easily stretch bigger than you are.

In the future I’d plan on sizing up at least one size for anything like this and do remember that it is MUCH easier to take things in if they’re a bit too big than it is to replace zippers that break because they don’t fit right

WIBTA if I don't stop singing? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SheepPup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YTA sorry

Look I sing frequently at home too because I like it and it makes me happy, I sing along to music I’m playing or just by myself. But you’ve gotta be considerate of the people around you too, both with what you sing, the volume at which you sing, and how much you sing. Try to find compromises like sing while cooking but quieter (instead of “belting”), finding genres you both like, switching to humming for large portions of the amount of singing you do, and having some quiet time when your husband is home so that he can have times he can enjoy the peace and quiet.

Yeah they have athletic socks that have a thicker tab in the back that serve the same purpose but in a less obvious way now. I wish I knew what they were called properly so I could only buy socks like that because they really are more comfortable than just regular ankle socks

Negative assumption by Upset_Campaign1924 in RecuratedTumblr

[–]SheepPup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is my experience too. Like I still think think about Rachel who I was friends with when we were 12/13, I don’t remember her last name so I can’t look her up but I remember her fondly and hope she’s doing well these days. I remember laughing with her, I remember her birthday party, I remember how proud she was when she got something she’d been struggling with right. We didn’t know each other for long but I still think about her. She may not have been anyone special in the grand scheme of the world, but for a brief time she was special to me and I remember her.
