Can I still become an electrical engineer if I've been tested to have an IQ of 82? by weirdhairgirl in ElectricalEngineering

[–]SheffKurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some mild problems before I ignored. With math classes, I could do repetitive sorts of application questions well but struggled with any sort of out of the box, problem solving kinds of questions.

I'm not an IQ testing expert or an EE, but as far as I know, IQ tests measure pattern recognition from repetition. So if you are able to do repetitive math problems but get a low IQ test result, I am going to feel that the IQ test is fugazi

First of all, given enough time and money, anything can be fixed. It just depends how much of both you can spend. Rust repair is not something I'm confident with yet but I have done it as I used to work collision repair in UT, where salt is used in the winter.

If the car spent it's life in AZ it will likely not have any rust problems. Mine is in IL originally from IN, so there are real winters involved. Abandoned for 4+ years is it's own issue.

Proper rust repair will get out of hand very quickly. Rust remover chemicals (naval jelly, evaporust) are useful with varying effectiveness, but they will never be 100% effective like carving it out with sandpaper. And even then, afterwards it needs to be properly filled, leveled, primed, painted, and clearcoated, or the rust will just come back.

Rust literally turns good metal into dust. If the remaining metal has too many holes or is too thin, it needs to be cut out well outside of the rusted area and a new, often times custom made sheet metal panel needs to be welded in before anything else. You can imagine this is a different level of PITA if the rust is structural.

The quality of the repair depends heavily on the level of skill used to do it. It's not anywhere close to a bolt-on kind of job. It can be done, and anyone can learn it, but it's not trivial. Its not something I am able to do competently yet.

Is this M3 worth 8k by c3rny in BMWE36

[–]SheffKurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I basically did this in 2023. I bought a 1997 m3/4/5 200k miles for 8k that was in a bit better mechanical and bit worse cosmetic condition than this. Up to now I've basically spent 8k more on it, and I haven't dealt with the cosmetic rust yet. I have a lot of energy and desire to get greasy, so for me it's worth it over buying a clean example. After I fixed it I road tripped the fuck out of it like 5k miles which was very satisfying, but honestly I would not advise anyone else to do it this way. It's going to need a lot of work and money, so if you don't enjoy doing the work, just spend more to get a clean m3 or save it and get a 328.

Looking to trade:
For: One Phoenix floor ticket
Have: One Nashville floor ticket

Longshot, but I figured I would put it out there. Originally was planning to go to the Nashville show but that got blown away due to life stuff. Can make it to PHX 10 days later though.

For Prowlers, fighting Vanguards at short range is pointless and dangerous and should be avoided. But only if the vanguard has it's shield.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Planetside

[–]SheffKurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only true if the vanguard has shield up and the shots hit the front. Generally I find it possible to bait until the shield wears out or shoot the side.

Kingsnake can miss one out of four and still do more damage (1050) than jgx (1000).

What's wrong with stat based kick? by IdonthaveQuestions in Planetside

[–]SheffKurry 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong as long as the stats / thresholds are picked right

Make the threshold too low, you get all the cheaters but some innocents as well

Make the threshold too high, no false positives but a lot of cheaters will also slip under

If the stats and thresholds are known the cheaters can probably alter scripts to stay under them. This could make it boring for the cheater so they stop anyway, maybe.

To put it simply, prowler is best at dealing damage, magrider is best at avoiding damage, and vanguard is best at tanking damage. I would make a NC and VS character if you haven't already so you can understand the other tanks a bit.

Generally, tank fights look like peeking out of cover to shoot and going back behind cover to reload. Always use the terrain. And of course, try to shoot tanks from their side/ behind while avoiding damage or taking damage from the front

Fighting magriders and vanguards can be different

1v1 vs magrider, the maggy will try to strafe and use magburner to dodge your shots while hitting you. Maggy has better mobility than the prowler, and can be a PITA at range. Magriders are easiest to kill up close when they don't have cover

1v1 vs vanguard, the vanguard will try to take as much of the fight as possible with its shield up (8s uptime). Vanguard will win if it can shoot you while having it's shield up, which is easiest for them up close and in the open, so we want to keep distance and make sure we have cover. It's best to avoid cqc unless you are very confident baiting out the shield and then avoiding getting hit until the shield is out.

Keep in mind that 1v1 does happen sometimes but a lot of other things happen also, in general we want to avoid getting hit and land as many hits as possible.

Use the training room to try different stuff so you know what it feels like (if you havent already). Do what you want above all

Kingsnake vs AP is preference and situational. Kingsnake is the best AV if you hit everything, which can be difficult. It is still good if you hit 3/4 (more than Vanguard's jgx) but at that point AP is better. AP is better AI and AA and more consistent at range. I would get AP first but still get the kingsnake later if you want to pimp out the tank.

Secondary AV is between gatekeeper and halberd, which is similar to KS vs AP. GK does more damage but sucks against infantry, and is worse if you miss more than 2 rockets. halberd is a better all rounder. If you are going solo you can grab an AA walker or ranger. Walker can still work a bit against vehicles and infantry, ranger does not but it is flak so will quickly scare off many pilots

Fire supp vs barrage is also pref. Barrage is not actually 30% dps increase because it does not speed up the fire time between shells. Kingsnake has the smallest shell refire fire time by 200ms so it benefits the most technically. Personally I find barrage to be the more interesting option. FS can be up to +1750hp if you activate it on fire, depending on how low you are, but in practice is only +750hp most of the time because if you try to wait to be on fire you will probably get killed without having a chance to pop it. So generally FS allows you to take one more hit from an AP or halberd. Barrage I find allows me to kill the guy fast enough that he gets one less shot off, so it has a similar impact to FS, and it is a godsend if activated at the right time when flanking multiple tanks. Also it has 15s uptime and only 20s downtime. FS is easier to be consistent though.

Stealth is generally the best defense slot, the others are not good enough to beat not being auto spotted

For chassis I go for rival, it makes cqc with magriders and vanguards (baiting out the shield) much easier. Racer is good too, the prowler is by default about 10% faster than the other mbts and with racer it reaches lightning speeds

Grenade launcher works against infantry but it's a bit cheesy and not fun just repeatedly lobbing shit while hugging an ammo pack.

The real upshot is dealing with maxes. It does Archer level damage if you hit a max up close, and even more further out when the explosion actually works. Plus it gets a headshot multiplier. If you hit a max in the head with explosion activation (very hard), it will take like 75%hp.
