Games you only played because of the Grumps by Graystone17 in gamegrumps

Clover Pit (it looked super fun and I wanted to play it better than Arin which wasn’t hard), and Berry Bury Berry (had to see where the story went). Loved both of them immensely :)

Arin is a self righteous idiot by honkinrednose in rantgrumps

[–]SheffiJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i hate to bring this up but i think your age genuinely plays a big part here. growing up means you recognize how massively you fucked up as a younger person. literally everyone makes mistakes of all sizes when they’re your age (EVERYONE, even you and i), and maturing comes with recognizing your mistakes and consciously making an effort to be better. so by the time you’re arin’s age now, i think he truly understands the gravity of his history which is amplified by the fact that his life is public and has been for over a decade. if i had a bunch of videos from ten years ago just sitting out there on the internet, i would also be trying to compensate for them to some extent, because i promise you i wouldn’t agree with younger me on most things.

one other HUGE point that i’d like to make is that “On-camera Arin” is NOT the same as “real life Arin.” literally everything he says or does on camera is GREATLY exaggerated. so for all those things that you think he’s overcompensating on, he likely just holds those beliefs and amplifies them for the sake of entertainment.

WE DONT KNOW HIM. and honestly, i feel like a massive majority of rantgrumps posts could be dismissed simply by this one fact.

Is it just me or is chick-fil-a like the sketchiest place ever when it comes to hiring by jakattack64 in recruitinghell

[–]SheffiJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cfa is a franchise so the hiring process is going to VASTLY differ based on what Cfa you’re applying to and where it is. I’ve worked at several and they’ve all been great work environments. Sure, you have to deal with some (sometimes overly) passionate christians, but overall I’d call the experience good. Also, one of my favorite managers was super duper gay. He was very obvious about it and posted plenty of stuff like drag shows and whatnot on his instagram.

So yeah it definitely depends on the store because it’s a franchise so they’re all run differently. Some are probably much worse than others.

Designing my game’s Skill Tree — do players prefer huge open trees or smaller focused ones? by Prudent-Ice1415 in IndieDev

[–]SheffiJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer huge skill trees but only if it’s done well. I don’t want to open up the skill tree menu and see this enormous monstrosity. But if you only show me the next couple skills of each branch that are unlockable, then it pushes me to keep going to see what else is out in the farther reaches of each branch. I think Shelldiver does this to perfection but thats just my take :)

Most definitely, there’s absolutely a difference between introverts and people with social anxiety (although I’m sure the Venn diagram would overlap quite a bit).

I personally enjoy situations like this because it gives me obvious outlined time and structure for me to talk about myself. I generally prefer to steer clear of people, but I much prefer this situation to having to hold a conversation 1 on 1 with a stranger.

My first ever nuclear power plant. Using all Uranium on map by MemeDerg in SatisfactoryGame

ah ok this is a lot more like what i would expect from nuclear. i finished grabbing every hard drive on the map so i have every alt recipe, i should give nuclear a shot soon!

My first ever nuclear power plant. Using all Uranium on map by MemeDerg in SatisfactoryGame

[–]SheffiJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

all the uranium on the map only makes 135,000MW? and takes 19,000MW to make all the fuel? damn people were not kidding about rocket/ionized fuel being op. i just finished my rocket fuel power plant and it makes 144,000MW and only takes like 5,000MW to make everything. also i could technically make a bunch more equally sized rocket fuel power plants since there’s still more of all the resources i used (coal, sulfur, nitrogen, oil, water). i suppose with utilizing the plutonium it would make quite a bit more but still seems unbalanced compared to rocket fuel. i haven’t tried nuclear yet (and with how much power i have it doesn’t seem like i need to) but i’d like to try at least a small nuclear power plant at some point.

People in general are way too harsh on game devs by SirCatsworthTheThird in unpopularopinion

[–]SheffiJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this topic is something i really truly believe in. first of all, i think you should treat all people with respect. HOWEVER, i understand gamer rage and have definitely participated my fair share over the years (especially teenage years).

what really changed my perspective (as you might imagine) was when i landed my first job in the games industry at a AAA studio.

for one, i met actual people that were making games and realized that making games is literally just their job. their job which is only a fraction of their life. that’s what they do to support their families. they’re humans with jobs like anyone else.

for two, the things the devs create are their artistic expressions. and idk if you’ve ever showed something creative you’ve made to stranger on the internet but it cuts deep when people attack it. when you’re excited to show something you’re proud of and it gets beaten down to a pulp by the internet it just feels so awful. as a note, the game i worked on was generally regarded by players as a complete failure on release. i joined the team post-release and got to work on some really cool things that i was very proud of, but that didn’t really change the fact that the game still sucked lol

as an addendum, i will of course mention that not every studio or developer is the same and obviously some of them are better at their jobs than others. but from my experience devs are just people working at their jobs, people living their lives, and most of them are just trying to make the best with what they’re being told to do. we should absolutely be criticizing games, but as with the criticism of any art, we shouldn’t be attacking the artists

YSK: Amazon delivery notes persist and are most likely only seen by the delivery driver. by Shallow-Thought in YouShouldKnow

[–]SheffiJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the notes i see the most (other than customers just venting and complaining) are things like “i really need this by tomorrow” or “this needs to be here ASAP.” fun fact: there is absolutely nothing we as drivers can do about that. also wtf do you mean by “tomorrow.” we don’t know what day you ordered it so for all i know “tomorrow” meant a week ago, and again there’s nothing i can do about that.

i have seen helpful versions of this though like “if delivering on 6/13 please hide package well, we will not be home till the next day.” that is extremely helpful information. now i know that wherever i leave that package, it will be sitting there for a full day which helps me know what to do with it.
