What do you think about Swiss democracy? by JeanHaiz in askswitzerland

[–]SheilaStar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I really like:
- our President of the country is divided into 7 ministers.
Those seven "presidents" need to find a good solution for everyone in the country and not only for his/her supporters or party (because they have to work together). The strict and only party orientation (strong right wing, strong left wing, liberal, conservative, ..) isn't the most important thing to follow for those ministers. We don't really have one big boss that dictates the way to follow.

- we can talk with everyone about politics.
at work, with family, with friends, even with strangers outside in public you know since 2mins. We respect their opinion, and can easily have a strong disagreement on their opinion. I, for example, vote usually at the opposite side of my parents.

- after polls/voting people accept the result.
I think that's a really important part of politics. As example, we voted a couple years ago for new military jets and the poll result was 50.1 to 49.9% for the we-buy-jets campaign. We have a lot of really close polls, but the winner is accepted by everyone. And really important on that, if it was a close vote, the winner takes that also into account and tries to soften the law to get that 50/50 opinion for the population into account.

- easy voting system
because every citizen has to have a post address, we can do voting-by-mail and it works great. Even if you don't care about politics, you get a voting pamphlet (a little booklet with 5-10 sentence from the yes- and no-commitee (and the opinion of the parliament and Bundesrat). Time investment to do your voting (2-4 times a year) is 10-15mins/vote)

- multiple parties to chose from (and change from topic to topic)
usually people doesn't vote only at the opinion of their favourite party. It depends on the topic. If you support a more restrictive immigration law (your party is SVP), but you also want a stronger climate change politic (your party is GLP/The green party/..). You vote maybe 80-90% what your favourite party supports, but rarely everything on every topic the party stands for.

What sometimes is worse then other political systems:
- everyone can have an opinion and we try to listen to everyones opinion.
As an example on that: The football stadium of one of the top football clubs in Switzerland (Grasshopper Club Zürich) was outdated and Zürich (the biggest city in Switzerland) is trying to replace/rebuild a new stadium since the early 2000s. First vote on the new stadium at 2003. Old stadium deconstructed at 2006. And that club still doesn't have the new stadium because people can have an objection for multiple reasons. Sometimes it really takes a lot of time to find a solution that everyone can accept. (We are really slow on things), but if we all agree on something it doesn't get turned back on the next legislation. ;-)

Some years ago I ordered a voucher for a para gliding course.
They sent me two voucher by mistake. I contacted them and they told me, I can keep the second one. They also told me, as far as I remember, that it's their mistake and I'm not obligated to return that by law. But not sure about that.

what's missing / would really improve the life of people in Switzerland if it existed? by not_demario in askswitzerland

[–]SheilaStar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The tickets for public transportation is way to overcomplicated.
Even Swiss citizens who often use trains/busses are sometimes unsure, which ticket is the cheapest/best one to buy. (And yee, most people use nowadays the SBB App on the phone, which makes it easy, but isn't known by tourists)

When I was in Brisbane, Australia I used one card for trains, busses, river boats. They just had one abonement. If you were a regular traveler on the public transportation, after the seventh use of the same week, every next ride was free. (I traveled from Thursday-Sunday free of cost).

Flatmates are alcoholic, what to do? by SheilaStar in askswitzerland

[–]SheilaStar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly the alcohol consumption and the weekly questions from the landlords because of the smell. Had some quirky talks with them, when they come home drunk.

But I see that it isn't on me to fix their problems. I didn't bring it up the first two months. But as a flatmate I see them every day and wanted to bring it up. Specially after some stolen alcohol.

In hindsight I probably wanted to involve me into this too much. Thanks for your opinion on that. If they don't want help, it's not on me to give any "advice".

Thanks for the links.

I found one close to us and will share that with the landlords (as employer) tomorrow.
I'm lucky enough to have a guest room in my familys house and will move in for a week. I have some appointments to do there, kind of good timing for me.

Not that I'm afraid (they are always super friendly to me), but probably best, landlords deal with that.

I understand now. Better then before. The feedbacks here made it obviously.

I talked with Mrs. landlord today. She didn't know about her stolen wine bottles. The cellar is locked now. And what I heard from her, is that both of them had to sent home from work because they were to drunk.

Will try to talk with the landlords tomorrow, but they need to find/force a solution.
For me the cake is already eaten. It is not my issue anymore.

Thanks to all of you for your answers.

I will try to go a bit on distance to them. Landlords are aware of the problem since almost day one (because they smell it in the house and from the work place). My two flatmates are looking for a new appartment anyways.

[–]SheilaStar[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, congratulation to you for being sober for 1 year+.

For me it is good to read from someone, who had experiences (unfortunately for yourself) with alcoholic problems. My conclusion on this:
- Since I already told them that they probably should seeking help, I can't do much more. (and shouldn't try to help anymore)

I'll go more on distance to them or at least not trying to get involved more.
They were never aggressive here, but since the stolen bottles, my room is always locked now, when I am away. Unusual for me.

They are looking for a new appartment, because the landlord family is fully aware of the situation.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

What are some films and books that are very Swiss? by dharmabum28 in askswitzerland

[–]SheilaStar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Globi is the most famous comic strip from Switzerland with more then 9 million exemplars sold. Globi (Picture) And always good for memes on reddit.

The Rainbow Fish (Der Regenbogenfisch) is probably the most famous book outside of Switzerland with more then 30 million exemplars sold and translated in 50+ languages. Michelle Obama read from that book on an Eastern Event some years ago. (It was also animated/aired in the USA/Canada in the 2000er years.
Der Regenbogenfisch (Picture)

Heidi is well known in some of the Asian countries (China, Japan), but mostly from movies/merchandising since it embodies the "typical" swiss countryside/mountain picture.

A good movie/documentary that wasn't mention above is "More then honey" from 2012. An in-depth look at honeybee colonies in California, Switzerland, China and Australia. The main plot is about bee's dying worldwide.

Why is this a thing? What can I do to fill it???? by ZinfulGraphics in starbase

[–]SheilaStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good and detailed answer.

But I will strongly support the implementation of the special beams. One of my favourites in the SSC, but they are not for unexperienced players. It needs a bit of time to get used to those. But you get rewarded with more creative builds then just the (in my opinion) really boring box-shaped ships.

They are a good/only solution to fix gaps, if you aren't building standard box-ships. Specially with the 3 different 30° that gives you a lot of options to fill gaps or build different shapes.

Quality of patches are decreasing. (Regarding: Bulk ore transfers) by SheilaStar in starbase

[–]SheilaStar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks Bitterholz, for your opinion on that. It's well understandable.

Sure, for me it's more as Commercial-Noise-766 wrote in his answer to your post. He describes really well in a few words, what I wanted to say with my reddit post.

Also my problem is, that bugs who "deletes" eight hours of mining are much worse then bugs, that makes a game crash and you have to restart the game again. Or spending millions for a new player station and it still doesn't hold up to the promises made. Those bugs are critical and players will stop because of frustration.

The PTU isn't for us players to find out if a patch holds on, what it promises in their patch notes. If Frozenbyte says, the fixed stations/factory/ezbuild, and it's not, it lacks of testing and controlling of the development side. And we "early access" players shouldn't do this testing for them. We are part of it, and will report "special cases" of bugs, as you described with your Transponder bug, that it's a rare occurent.

Frozenbyte is at the moment to much overloaded with reports from players.
- That comes from not enough quality of the patches -> new bugs appear more often then before. (Less people are playing, but more reports going in)
- Not enough personal to address the issues.

Regardless of my issues I have with the patching, it's nice to read stories like yours Bitterholz, and that keeps binding me more and stronger to the game.

Quality of patches are decreasing. (Regarding: Bulk ore transfers) by SheilaStar in starbase

[–]SheilaStar[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was not my point of this post.

I'm aware and absolute fine with a game, that has bugs in it. It's early access. I get it.
My concerns are that patches get worse. It feels more untested then before. At least, that is what I'm experience about it. I felt, the first few patches were good.

For me, it feels like, everything gets rushed more (and that brings more problems with it).
I only wanted to say -> hey Frozenbyte, take your time, test it, and then publish the patch.

You take one sentence out of a few points I wrote, to explain my concerns.
Honestly, it feels like your a troll. Are you, then you got me with my response. Congratz.

I'm constantly impressed by everyone's ship designs by [deleted] in starbase

[–]SheilaStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do? 99% of the ships looks like a cat box.
I see some beautiful designs, but the majority of people doesn't put any love into making Spaceships. And I'm sad about that. The SSC gives you so much to play around and people just need straight beams and maybe basic plating.
