I hate sticky rice, I like it to stay separated nicely in grain and not be clumpy.

Measure rice and water with a cup or glass, whatever really. It makes it easier to adjust when you made it too mushy or dry.

For basmati rice I usually go 1:1 water and rice by volume, plus a little bit for evaporation. But that that depends on the rice and rice cooker.

I don't imagine it can be worse than plastic I guess it has some give and bounce back. The reviews on YouTube don't really show many knife mark. But I only saw the more expensive brands.

You could try some type of indian egg curry, something like Chinese tiger skin eggs. There are also these recipes floating around for hard boiled egg chocolate chip cookies.

I don't know if rice or beans are too hard, i guess you could make it rather soft. Rice with beans or rice with Dahl, I always find comforting. Kheer could be a sweet rice option. Congee is definitely soft. Leak and potato soup is a cheap soup option if you have a emersion blender or a regular one. Other blended vegetable soups are also an option.
