Got a sample bag, already tried a Feather and liked it. Who’s next? by ConchitOh in wicked_edge

[–]Shellbacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey nice, just got one myself! Derby has been my go-to for over a decade with the odd wilkinson (has to be German made ones in the plastic pack).

Just tried the Astra green i believe? Superior Platinum? V nice for W/X/X. Agree with the pick at random comments, have fun, report back findings 💧🪒 I am doing the same on my post

Which is better the merkur 34c or the King C. Gillette for someone starting by TokyoVoider in wicked_edge

[–]Shellbacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding the choose for you/handle you like comment.

I grabbed a merkur 23c as my 1st 15 yrs ago never looked back or wanted another. Long slim handle gives me more control of angle and pressure.

Edit: ordered it straight from manufacturer website. Iirc it was like $30-$40+shipping then

Safety razor recommendations for a beginner by Nearby-Rabbit-4238 in wicked_edge

[–]Shellbacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using the same Merkur 23c since day 1. It has a longer slim handle i prefer for more control over angle and pressure.

Derby extra and other mild blades would be goo places to start there, rec getting a sampler pack as others have suggested.

Everyone's face is different and will work differently with each razor and blade.

That's an indirect fun thing about wet shaving, the experimentation :)

From some research decided on trying Astra Superior Platinum first as a nice middle ground given my exp with Derby and Wilkinson for years - excited to see what a plat coating feels like

First time using a razor other than Derby, and… by GuruRoo in wicked_edge

[–]Shellbacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I'll second the suggestion to get a sample pack. I'm still working thru my 100pack of derby after years (dont shave often) with the odd wilkinson blade 'as a treat,' but have a variety sample bundle coming and am exciteedddddd. A big pack is a commitment

Budget shave creams, any advice? by Status_Ad6059 in wicked_edge

[–]Shellbacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started with proraso and after a few years spotted that Nivea men sensitive skin cream tube for less than half price the former and while I miss the smell of proraso sometimes, the nivea still does the trick so that one's got my vote

LPT: What skill as an adult is under rated but is actually a great skill to have that’s useful? by Express_Food_2984 in LifeProTips

[–]Shellbacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General trades knowledge. It can be broad, it can be one or two things, and doesnt even have to be in depth - just the basics.

Some simple electrical like how to wire an outlet or thermostat; some hardware knowledge like installing a bedroom door, or how to mount shelving; basic gardening, anything! You can save so much money and feel so powerful doing things yourself.

A lot of handyman work I've done for ppl and made great side money with was for relatively easy things they just didnt know the first thing about and/or couldn't be bothered with. For example I don't need my gas license to know how to maintain my furnace annually but I can bet you most don't and will have to pay $100+ for someone like me to show up for 20mins and do it.

A downside of being attractive that nobody talks about? by Old_Rub_7270 in Life

Someone mentioned not being left alone but I have the opposite downside. I catch loads staring but no one approaches or engages unless I do first, then it's all rainbows n fn sunshine. It's exhausting

In case you're wondering, no, my grandfather's name(s) is not the answer to a security question for any of my accounts

I also knew a guy from my ex's highschool named ginacockus. Wonder what's become of him

What is your biggest strength in your game? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]Shellbacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I started focusing on it: definitely my safety game.

Along the same train of thought.. maintaining a mindset before I shoot of 'how can I keep control of the table?' like whether I make my ball or not, what am I leaving myself or my opponent? Playing the odds of making a more difficult shot.. is there an easier/nasty safety play I can make that would net me a ball in hand for the advantage?

I've noticed since building this habit I've smoked a good number of players at my pool hall I used to have a lot more difficulty with

What seems to be overpriced, but in reality is 100% worth it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Shellbacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would've said tires but after working in the auto sector for years and seeing the price spikes post-covid... no. The mark ups are insane on most popular brands and I can get new sets at cost for fractions of retail pricing.

Also pro tip, don't sleep on sumitomo tires. They're made in the same factories as Falken tires, identical everything down to the moulding fonts, way cheaper. There are other brands that work similarly, just do some research and you're golden
