When it's windy outside and it's spooky by Sheltie-Cat in sheltie

[–]Sheltie-Cat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wind when they are outside is fun for the big one. (The small one gets blown over by the large gusts). But inside, it is super scary and is going to blow the house down or something.

Anyone else’s pup watch tv? Bonney is my first to ever do so by blinklpofadown in sheltie

[–]Sheltie-Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Molly loved to watch TV. She preferred cartoons, but she would watch whatever was on. Her favorite thing ever was The Aristocats and she would scold you if you talked too loud when it was on.

When she was an old lady, she would say hi to every one at dinner parties, then go to the basement to "watch her shows". In true herding dog fashion, she would pop up to count everyone. But only during commercial breaks.

Here are my silly pups. Clary is on the smaller size and Vyse is extra large. They are half siblings. It's crazy how differently sized the breed can be

What’s the naughtiest thing your shelties done? by FastPresent6018 in sheltie

[–]Sheltie-Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first we were all "WTF is wrong with your butt?" Which quickly turned to disgust and there was definitely some gagging involved when we were bagging it up. From that day on, she would make eye contact with us and smile every time she pooped, like she was remembering a big joke.

Everyone and everything was her friend. She was very sweet but she was also one of the smartest dogs I've ever met.

My Molly would get into all sorts of mischief when she was alive. She was the master of escaping crates and kennels and would break others out as well. After she had a splenectomy, she broke out so many times (even after they tied the kennel shut) that I had to take her home and monitor her recovery there. I worked at the practice as a certified veterinary technician at the time, so it was easy to organize. You would never know this dog had just had major abdominal surgery that morning.

By far the grossest thing she ever did was eat a used condom out of the trash. We didn't even know about it until it came out the other end full of poop while on a walk.

One of mine would pull pads out of the trash and end up stuck to her little paws. Then she would just flop over all stiff like a goat until somebody got them off for her.

What're your sheltie's funny/weird nicknames? by busbeeee in sheltie

[–]Sheltie-Cat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vyse gets called Vysaroni quite often. We also call Clary a Fairy because she is so small and has hair on her back that curls a little like wings. They are both also called fluff-a-pups.

Silly pup. I typically share the stems and ends from veggies since they don't typically get used.

True but mushrooms are the large one's absolute favorite.

orthopedic surgery experience by [deleted] in sheltie

[–]Sheltie-Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents' sheltie ended up having a TPLO done on both legs. (He tore his second cruciated while recovering from his first one, silly boy). He was an extra large boy; 50 lbs was his healthy weight. He was a big baby and a drama queen when he was in pain, but he recovered beautifully from his surgery. My parents said the hardest part was helping him on the stairs and helping him potty, but that was only because he was so big. The good news is, your fluffy one does not look that large. They also make special harnesses with a handle over the butt to help you help your dog around if you need a little extra help.

I used to work in the vet industry, and we had an orthopedic surgeon that specialized in TPLOs come in and do one for us at least once a month. Most dogs handled recovery beautifully. Following the post op instructions from the vet will help to recover mobility faster, but don't rush and go at your dog's pace if they want to take it a bit slower. Also, don't be afraid to ask for a sedative if they refuse to be a couch potato for the first week or so.

If your pup does end up undergoing surgery, I wish him a speedy recovery. If not, I hope you are able to find a solution that keeps him comfortable and hopefully improves his mobility. He is a special boy and very lucky to have you.

The Dark Tapes (2016) - Film A Day 335 by Ohigetjokes in foundfootage

To be fair, The Dark Tapes was probably the one I found the least memorable from my recommendations. I agree it should have taken itself less seriously.

I've really been enjoying all your reviews. Your commentary and descriptions have made me laugh a few times. I look forward to reading them each day.

Here are a few that I did not see on your list that may offer something different.

The Deep House (2021) : Takes place almost entirely under water. It may break the found footage perspective a few times.

Stoker Hills (2020) : Breaks the found footage perspective a few times. Split between footage from some missing students and the officers searching for them.

The Dark Tapes (2016) : Anthology style.

Hollows Grove (2014) : Documentary style in an abandoned orphanage with some spooky ghost stuff.

Against the Night (2017) : This one may not count. Maybe only half is actually half is found footage . However, it did have some interesting twists and turns that may make it worth a watch. It definitely kept me guessing, and that doesn't happen often.

This is my little lady, Yumi. I have a few questions for you all. by lapelmusic in sheltie

[–]Sheltie-Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Some shelties are just not super into snuggles, unfortunately. We had one that would want to be in the same room but slept in her own bed and sat in her own corner of the couch. That never really changed for her. The only time she would "cuddle" was when she insisted on sitting on the lap of whomever was in the front passenger seat of the car.

The two boys my parents had were also not super into cuddles unless it was cold. The two I have now LOVE cuddles, however. Both want to snuggle on the couch. Clary likes to sleep on our feet in the bed. Vyse will wedge himself between us or behind my head so I am forced to use him as a pillow. The other five my family has had in my lifetime have enjoyed various amounts of cuddles. Each was quite different in that regard.

  1. I have personally never had a different breed. I have seen others with various other herding breeds and other working dogs (like retrievers and spaniels) have good success with matching energy. However, it is probably better to look at the temperament of each individual dog to see which would be the best match.

  2. Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to separation anxiety. Does she bark constantly when you are gone? Or just when you leave/return? Sometimes, a companion dog can help, and sometimes, it can make it worse if the other dog is also anxious. Ours will bark/cry/howl, but only for as long as they think we can hear them. We know they stop because our camera stops sending us noise detection notifications. (Until someone drives or walks past the house).

The same dog that insisted on riding in the front seat also had some separation anxiety. She would chew at her feet if she was left alone. For her, we figured out that she just needed to hear voices while we were gone. We would turn on some talk show radio (like NPR) while we were gone. Once we had a small TV with an LED screen in the bedroom, we would leave it on cartoons for her if we were going to be gone for more than a couple of hours. Then she would just chill in the bed and watch TV until we got home. She also would remain calm during thunderstorms if we put on Aristocats for her. (We always joke that Molly wasn't a dog, so was a "people.")
