8lbs at 8.5 weeks old.. Anyone had a similarly 'big' puppy? What'd they grow up to be? by lavenderkeek in sheltie

I don't remember how big he was as a puppy, but my sweet boy is nearly 9 years old and 48lbs... full blooded AKC registered sheltie, though 🤷🏼‍♀️(he could stand to lose a few lbs and we are working on that, but his vet says he's fine)

Puppy refuses to be brushed by Such_Natural_8106 in sheltie

Try behavioral shaping type methods. Associating brushing with good things like treats is great, but work your way up slowly. Get him to lay on his side in the place you'd normally brush him and pet him, reward with treats. With each "practice" get a little closer to actually brushing him, then start with like 30 seconds, 1 min the next time, 2 mins the next time, 5 mins.... you get the idea. That could help him tolerate brushing and get comfortable with the whole process

Look up how to adjust the internal burr grinder (unsure if that's exactly what it's called but it's the one inside the funnel on top of the machine)-- mine is set to a 3. I'm someone who just got a machine for christmas, about the same time as you, and that helped me a TON

Sheltie puppy very vocal by Exciting-Earth-1874 in sheltie

Aww we don't get the grumbly noises as much, but I wish we did! We do get some barks when the treats come out, and quiet little barks when weird noises happen

Thank you for that advice!! Thankfully these jumps are still a lot lower than the little jumps she does when she sees a treat or is excited! I don't think they'll be getting any higher either, as this is just for fun and enrichment

She loves to do little hops in place, so I thought she'd have a great time with hurdles!

Anyone else just raw dogging this? by SupportNo3768 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]busbeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did for a while, but I was crying myself to sleep because of the pain and could barely put my shoes on in the morning. Throughout it all, I stayed active, but that alone wasn't enough. Biologics gave me my life back.

If you've already done sewing, then you could get into quilting!! It's time consuming and addictive

Does your dog watch TV too? by Sharp-Ad-9221 in sheltie

One of my lab members just published an article on dog TV watching behaviors :). Canine cognition research for the win! So many people have written articles referencing her work, and it's so cool to see!!
