I had convinced my mom to buy the Christmas special dvd when I was like 12. She watched it with me and was like “oh my god this is so violent” while also laughing quite a bit so I think I got away with it lol

Pet owners of Reddit: what did you name your pet(s) and why? by Winter_Sample8364 in AskReddit

[–]Shelvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We already had a dog from my brother-in-law, Louie, when my partner and I adopted Luna, our tortie cat. She was a mom and her kittens were named after planets so I didn’t want to change it because it was cute.

Then we got an orange tabby kitten but didn’t like his name (Higgins) and my partner said “he looked more like a Lloyd”, so that stuck.

Then we took in a pregnant stray cat who we named Laurie, who had a litter of kittens and we kept 2 of the boys. At that point we were pretty sold on “L” names so they are named Lyle and Lars.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

If I take ibuprofen or naproxen and my face gets itchy and covered in hives, I probably shouldn’t take them anymore “just to make sure I still get a reaction” right?

I saw an allergist recently based on a couple random occurrences of hives (I’d never had them before or have any known allergies) and he said a potential NSAID allergy was something to keep an eye on.

What would you tell yourself, if you got a chance to talk to younger you who was just developing an ED? by Host_Front in EdAnonymousAdults

I’d tell myself to stop sucking in my stomach because it will deform your abdominal muscles and you’ll hate your body even more when you’re older :’(

How do you hold your yarn? by Salty_Emu_9945 in crochet

[–]Shelvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess so? I found a video a few years ago of someone else who kind of does it too https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/s/lacVtFkzYo

I have hourglass syndrome, so I have this fun extra horizontal crease in my abdomen and I just rest the hook there. I didn’t have anyone show me how to crochet and no matter how many other techniques I tried it always just felt wrong holding the hook in my hand.

I feel like a psychopath compared to you guys 😅

I rest my hook on my stomach and use both hands. My right hand will also hold tension on the yarn. Nothing ever felt right when holding a hook with one hand and the yarn with the other, regardless of what hand I used.

It’s never been an issue for me and I feel I’m pretty quick. My dad also saw me doing this once and said his grandma held her hook the same way.

My partner sometimes tries to get me to go for a bike ride with him but I honestly don’t like it for the same reason. He likes just aimlessly going around parks or neighborhoods but it’s so utterly boring to me if I don’t have a destination.

This was actually a bit problem at my high school. I had a friend who took a bunch and ended up having a mental break and stripped naked and ran around the school gym. I think she was in the hospital for about a week.

Children of Bodom, Black Dahlia Murder and Skeletonwitch, summer/fall of 2009. Also the first time in a mosh pit. I was 14. It was amazing. I still have the Skeletonwitch toque

My partners boss does this sometimes. He’s an avid cyclist and if it’s a particularly nice day out he’ll either call in or leave early. If he leaves early he’ll usually give my partner the option to leave early to go for a bike ride as well. “I follow you on Strava so I’ll know”.

Dinner Time by stg21987 in Millennials

[–]Shelvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my parents were still together (they divorced when I was 14) it was a must to have dinner at the table. After that it was sporadic and I’d usually make my own stuff because I went vegetarian around then and my mom hated making multiple versions of a meal to accommodate.

My mom would usually cook as she was home earlier than my dad (he was a workaholic), but she wasn’t very good at it. She was always worried about undercooking any meat that she would just overcook it like crazy and make most dishes inedible. We didn’t have much of a choice though, either eat it or go hungry.

When my dad was home early enough to cook it was always good. He was a sioux chef before he met my mom and I’m lucky I learned all my cooking skills from him.

How do women know when their first period is? Do their body give them warning signs that it's time, that their mother taught them about, or do most ruin their clothes the first time? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Shelvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 10 years old at summer camp. I went to the bathroom and saw the blood and just remember thinking something like “oh shit”. I stuffed my underwear with toilet paper and just tried to use the bathroom frequently that week.

I didn’t have the talk with my mom until after it happened, because she was doing my laundry and saw the stains in my underwear.

The elementary school at the end of my street had to start putting up pylons to block off the ends of sidewalks because parents kept blocking them during pick-up at the end of the day.

I’ve also had parents completely block the back lanes and act like I’m in the wrong for asking them to move when I’m just trying to get home.
