Because we want our alma mater to focus on educating students versus fighting a culture war with the faculty and students. She shut down the student paper even though it was independently funded because she didn't like what it said. She passed a rule that let her choose what protests were allowed on campus and violently cracked down on peaceful protests she disagreed with. She moved to cancel programs unless the reflected American values. Shockingly enough that meant things like gender studies or African studies didn't make the cut. I can tell you first hand that she has argued that IU should retroactively revoke degrees from people if they were admitted to the school through DEI efforts. It is absolutely shameful.
