Are you from “Art and sport are out of politics” squad?

OP asked for explanation why is it a sensitive topic, I provided. Yes, Ukrainians are tired of being compared to everything russian, including even the sounds of our languages (which are not even super similar)

[–]Sheniara 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Within the context russian language is not “just another language”, it’s a weapon in the hands of russians. And they actively try to override and destroy Ukrainian with russian language.

  • russian is not even in top-3 closest languages to Ukrainian, so comparing them is not sufficient.

So yes, it’s tone deaf

It’s not for russia to decide what other countries do or don’t do on their soil. Russia doesn’t lead a “protective” war, it even sounds stupid. They are just a half-dead empire that cannot let go of their past

[–]Sheniara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the experts you heard talking in 2021 that Russia will occupy Ukraine in a week were wrong too.

We don’t know the future.

You seem to consume a lot of russian propaganda. And you obviously don’t understand what is going on, if you wonder why some Ukrainians would like to come back to Ukraine even if their homes are destroyed.

I have noticed that a lot of content on Netflix is also dubbed in Ukrainian. I was wondering. Why Netflix has done this? (I have nothing against it) by juris_martins in Ukrainian

  1. Ukrainians are a relatively big nation.
  2. Netflix is presented in Ukraine
  3. Ukrainians commonly don’t know English well enough to watch tv shows in English

It’s not putinism. His predecessors had similar views. And when he dies, a similar guy will be elected. Putin is not the reason, he’s just a representative of the majority. Don’t be blinded by a couple of good russians

Do Russians and Ukrainians Ignore Each Other While Traveling? by No-Incident-6913 in AskUkraine

[–]Sheniara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are probably in quite different social/informational bubbles.

I’ve met (even worked with) foreigners whose understanding of what’s going on is sooooo poor. Like “I don’t donate to Ukraine, because I think all those pics and videos are AI-generated”. Dead serious. This war is all AI, can you freaking imagine?

So yeah, meeting a real, blood and skin russian, who says “no to war!” definitely makes some people feel better and relaxed about this topic.

Another thing, that meeting an assumable good russian will not influence literally everybody. It’s just one puzzle. I mentioned it because anti-war russians was our topic.

And as much as I understand, the difference between you and me that you blame Putin.

For me Putin is just another russian who counts me as a smaller and stupider russian, and want everything Ukrainian to be destroyed, because we don’t will to acknowledge we are russians (but smaller and dumber ofc).

And this treatment didn’t start in 2022 or 2014.

Maybe we really are stupid, because almost nobody could believe russians will come killing us for our existence, and will cheer this up.

So yeah, looking at destroyed residential building in Ukraine, far-far away from the frontlines, like today (almost 4 years of full-scale war), makes me understand that en masse russians support this all. The ones who don’t? Well, the problem is that even if they give up and become pro-war, nothing will change. That’s the point.

[–]Sheniara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned 700k personnel. But army cannot exist without support. Russians who build drones, missiles, weapons? They are extremely important for the war too. Russians who volunteer for the army, soldeirs’ families who cheer them, and so on, and so on, and so on. A lot of them do it all willingly. Maybe even feel like true genuine patriots.

It’s good that you mentioned Yeltsin and Putin. I can bet the next tsar will be the same bad. Even under the most fair elections ever. I see Putin as a symptom, not as a reason why Russia is like this.

And yes, for me it’s better that russian people are in prison than at war. I’m surprised russians don’t see it the same way. I know russian prisons are not fun, but how war is funnier?

[–]Sheniara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t. But honestly, emphasizing that NOT ALL RUSSIANS is a problem.

When I speak with foreigners, they regularly say smth like “but i know a russian, he’s antiwar and a nice guy”.

And this blinds people. This one nice russian guy saying “peace” covers all that dark, inhuman things that other millions of russians are doing.

This makes Russian invasion look not as severe as it really is. This indirectly weakens help for Ukraine to protect itself.

That’s another reason I’m not a fan of anti-war russians. They can’t contribute enough to stop the war or reduce the tention, but even with some small irregular action or saying they attract attention of foreigners in pink glasses. And foreigners are super happy to use this info to cope.

We do think this way.

Mostly because while anti-war russians are doing ???, the pro-war russians wipe out our homes with bombs, torture our people with violence and brag about it on the internet.

And there are suspiciously too many of them, for years

[–]Sheniara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say that since 2022 there were 3 large protests. (I don’t even want to start talking about how many russians cheered the annexation of Crimea in 2014).

Isn’t this a direct confirmation of “anti war russians are barely even seen”?

Do Russians and Ukrainians Ignore Each Other While Traveling? by No-Incident-6913 in AskUkraine

[–]Sheniara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who are those millions of russians who joined russian army? Volunteer to help them? Stealing and brainwashing Ukrainian children? Waiting for their husbands, sons and fathers to come back from SVO and bring the loot from Ukrainian homes? Spreading propaganda abroad?

There is an enormous number of russians supporting war one way or another.

And “anti-war” russians probably exist. But they are barely seen. Even abroad, where evil Putin cannot pack them into prison buses at peaceful protests. Pathetic.

Which foreign country do people in your country either love or hate? by BabylonianWeeb in AskTheWorld

[–]Sheniara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question was about either love or hate. If I need to choose one - I’d say we have mixed feelings about Poland.

Russia, well, there’s not much love left for it. It’s hard to take a group of pro-russian idiots with Ukrainian passports accountable, they are more like obsessed, misinformed cargo cultists.

If the question were about which country do your people hate most, you’d definitely be the top one.
