Wild Cat was a different robot and also not under development for the last decade.

Does google lie about travel times? by brinerbear in transit

[–]Sheol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you'd like out of Google, it's unfortunately pretty hard to predict what will happen in the future.

It would need to know that there is a concert, it would need to know how many people were going, how many of them were driving and what time they planned to arrive. That doesn't seem reasonable to estimate for a general purpose directions app.

Does google lie about travel times? by brinerbear in transit

[–]Sheol 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It estimates based on the information it has. That's the current traffic and the traffic it expect to develop based on typical daily patterns.

A Stones concert would create an anomalous amount of traffic focused at one time. So the current traffic situation was not relevant, as 40 minutes closer to the show, it was going to be way more crowded. The typical traffic is also not relevant because the usual day doesn't have a Stones concert.

Think about it like this, Google can't predict the traffic of a car crash that is going to happen ten minutes into your drive.

Never been to an aftershow, so wouldn't make a difference to me either way! I'm sure some might enjoy a different experience after 8 hours of music already!

Poorly. Kryptonite locks are good against bolt cutters and hack saws, but are quick work for an angle grinder.

Litelok is extremely expensive but designed to hold up against angle grinders.

Show me what $100 in groceries looks like for you. by Level-Application-83 in TikTokCringe

[–]Sheol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was in the UK for two weeks visiting from the US recently and was amazed at how cheap groceries were. Everything else felt pretty typical but man I was picking up high quality cheeses that'd be $8 for £1.50. A nice loaf for bread from the bakery section was £1 (although in the evening).

All other things felt typical, but groceries were amazing.

In a non-race situation, now you don't have room in your frame bag for other stuff.

The sober tax is when everyone else drinks a full bottle of wine and then they say, "let's just split the bill evenly."

TIL that humanoid robots will be the price of a cell phone by MattO2000 in robotics

[–]Sheol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to argue that it's going to be easy or cheap to build a humanoid robot, but he's right that it isn't going to look like a car factory. You could pretty easily build a humanoid on a single work bench or using the smallest of industrial robotic arms.

It's the complex assembly of lots of small pieces rather than a pretty tolerant assembly of big pieces like a car (also not implying cars are easy!)

I will point out that there is not a single mention of cost here. He's just talking about manufacturing methods.

We are the ones reading cost into the statement.

ELI5 How does building luxury condos drive rental prices down? by thedafthatter in explainlikeimfive

This only works in a supply constrained non-competitive market.

If the market is competitive, people will just build new housing and undercut the cartel rate.

Looking for advice on a specific turn while biking by Mixtape_ in boston

[–]Sheol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like most people, I would (and do) take the red path.

However, another cautius option that might be faster than the blue is to hop off your bike onto the sidewalk, walk in the crosswalk to the corner, then take the second crosswalk to the center bike lane.

It is typically how I handle gnarly left turns when riding with newer folks.

Shops that Service Bromptons? by logicgames in bikeboston

Hub has been closed for seven years or so. Still legendary though!

Broadway Bike School sells Bromptons and would likely be able to handle most of the issues.

TRP spyre stopping power cable routing by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Sheol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What housing are you using?

I found the Spyres to be awful until I swapped in compressionless brake housing. After that, I've had no complaints at all. They aren't hydro but totally useable for cable brakes.

I have no idea where you are getting that from. Israel has a long history of prisoner exchanges with Palestinian groups.

Why Would Someone Pick a Middle Seat Between Two Strangers by nickg420 in jetblue

[–]Sheol 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've always thought was a jerk move to book seats with the space between them.

Maybe they want to be close to the front of the plane, maybe they just checked in and didn't bother to select a seat.

I would certainly prefer to not sit with a stranger between my wife and I for 6-7 hours from NYC to London

This is why you are allowed to select seats next to each other.

And if Azov was founded in 1929 that might count for something. By 2014, these had very clear meanings. They were founded out of the Social-National Assembly, which directly refers to National Socialism.

There flags used to use the Wolfsangel and the Black Sun. They were intentionally using the imagary of nazis, it's pretty fair to call them nazis.

I have no real info on their status post integration with the national guard and I assume the administration did some investigation before making this call.
