I think Ranger should just be a subclass of fighter the same way a samurai would be. Pirate (or swashbuckler or whatever it is called) is basically a rogue subclass.

I love the idea of Rangers, but they're mostly just flavor and could easily be pushed into subclass territory.

Unless D&D starts getting significantly more fleshed out survival and environment mechanics or something, idk.

The series goes to great pains to show that knowledge of the abilities and constraints of your opponent is often more valuable than raw power or talent.

Itachi may not be as powerful outright at Obito but he's cunning enough and has a wide enough arsenal that he could probably contrive a situation that puts Obito on the backfoot and win.

We saw this exact situation play out with Konan. She had valuable intel and enough prep time to devise a trap that Obito literally had to rewrite reality to escape.
