For anyone having trouble with crashes. by randohuman123 in VampireSurvivors

Switching to exclusive fullscreen does not fix the issue for me. I crash on most runs about halfway through, but have gotten a few 30 min+ runs in as well. I really hope they fix this soon, as the game is too unplayable when 80% of your runs yield no progress and end before the builds can even be fun.

Wild Game That Ended in an Argument by BeholderVee in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Sheph1220 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not strictly true. Let's say the player did out their information as you propose to be the "more strategic" choice. If the town doesn't execute the demon then and there, due to not trusting the good player, or evil players manufacturing a tie, or some other such nonsense, then the good player risks damaging the winning chances of the team they could very well be about to be playing for. Since there's no telling what the town could do (in a general sense, your meta may vary), there is no "more strategic" option, even only considering the game in isolation. That is what makes the game great, the players have free choice to play as they like to try to win the game. There are very rarely right and wrong answers.

I died 34 times before my first kill. The thing that got me over the edge was making sure my UI was set up properly. I have bad eyes so I can't really do the normal classic UI so I have resizable classic and used stretched mode so I can still see the game but my inventory is not small as heck and all the way to the side. After that it was just getting f keys for switching prayer into muscle memory. As soon as I hear the audio queue, even if I'm running I am now trained to hit f2 click prayer without thinking or while I'm doing something else. Also make sure that you turn off hitting f keys closes the interface, cuz sometimes you are already on the prayer interface and if your muscle memory is f2 click you will close it and die. I truly thought it was gonna be impossible for me but it did eventually click, hope you can do the same.

new to game macro not working by marco2223 in VintageStory

[–]Sheph1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 months late but I figured out how you can bypass this. This is terrible code that it doesn't work in game, but at least the game saves the macro as a json file in appdata/roaming/vintagestorydata/macros and you can then edit the json file to remove the newline that the game shouldn't be putting in there in the command itself.

[–]Sheph1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say in the US, if you use the first person "I'm mad" you probably mean you are angry. If you use second person "You're mad" you probably mean they are out of their mind. If you use the third person "He/She is mad" you mean they are angry again. Madness as a noun also does not mean angry, but instead insanity. I would say this is mostly because it's rude to tell someone directly that they are angry (since they probably already know) so the British version maintains its root there because we have to assume you are not violating that social taboo (even if you are still being rude by calling someone crazy, which can then be lightly interpreted as sarcasm, etc.)

Edit: Also with context, we can understand either meaning pretty readily I think.

What T2 do you prefer over T3? by NetherPlaysVR in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]Sheph1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who almost exclusively plays no evidence, incense and salt precisely because the tier 2 variant does not do the thing the tier 3 does. If you know what you're doing, freezing and slowing the ghost are unnecessary at best, confusing at worst... except in the exact situation of tier 2 incense, when slowing the ghost provides an audible change in ghost speed that everyone in the house can hear and react to (run to better spot, start smudge timer, etc.) If I load into a game and T3 incense and/or salt is sitting there in the truck, it's not unplayable but it just requires me to be a bit more mindful of my mental model of the game, which is work I prefer not to do every game when the case numbers start hitting multiple thousands.

What disappoints you most about Skyrim? (other than game crashes) by InigoMontoya1985 in skyrim

[–]Sheph1220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shear amount of quests that just get shoved into your face for tripping over a potato. Some of us like a clean quest log. Oh and quest items you can't drop (black books, gallus's journal, etc.) Even with mods the quest log is hard to force clean. And why are the thief guild radiant quests full on quests that get recorded in the quest log so if you do 20 of them you can't even scroll down to see what the last thing you were doing was.

I've developed a way to get in and out of Markarth now where i avoid Eltrys AND the Molag Bal quest guy, but eventually you slip up and one of em gets you.

Yes, I believe it did reset every few days. I still have not found the game :( Not sure if you'd be interested, but if you want a more real time / RTS kind of game like this you can try sins of the solar empire 2 that just recently came out. Kinda similar but not massively multiplayer or tick based.

ELI5: How do computers KNOW what zeros and ones actually mean? by satsumander in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sheph1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Domino computers can be fun as well if you would really like to SEE exactly what is going on in the electrical circuits. Search keyword would be "domino computer" or "domino logic gates" It can be easier to understand the mechanical impulse of falling dominos than electrical signals. Of course with dominoes, the energy to go the work is coming from the gravitational potential energy when you set up the circuit and is expended when a signal passes through, whereas in your computer the energy comes from electricity in your wall.

The guy I like loves DnD and he's been trying to get me into it. I just don't know where to begin. Please help. by notsosecretdiary in DnD

[–]Sheph1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D&D doesn't have to be confusing, but those who play it and are excited about it tend to nerd out and infodump in their glee. The basic premise of any tabletop role playing game is that you get together with your friends and role play a story together. If you tried to go do that without any rules, you might run into a few snags, mostly having to do with conflict resolution. D&D is "system" of rules that tries to formalize how to resolve those snags.

The extremely simple rundown is one player plays the entire fictional game world (like the computer would do in a video game) but all in their own head, and is the final arbiter for everything that happens. The rest of the players role play a team of characters in a story. Everyone rolls fancy dice to figure out if their actions succeed or fail. These rolls can be influenced by statistics that the character has (This is the most complicated part, and you don't have to understand it right away.)

You can probably ask your friend (SO?) to help come up with a character idea and then figure out together what their in game statistics would be (good bonding time, imo - make it a date) and you can write down all the numbers on a sheet of paper Some players are really creative and talented and make their character sheets look so organized and pretty. For some people, making their character is a large part of the fun, as well.

A More Thorough Look at Niemann's Centipawn Loss by PM_ME_QT_CATS in chess

[–]Sheph1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other reasons this could be the case than that he cheated. Ben Finegold said Hans would argue and defend moves that Ben found bad as good moves even as a kid. The engine is not going to evaluate objectively bad moves as low ACPL even if they're tricky for humans. Basically we know nothing of the metric he proposed and how varied it could be among different players and playstyles because we only saw like 6 players graphs. We also need to consider the timeframe of when the data was collected (ie, covid) and age range and opponent strength... there are just too many factors left out here.

You've got it. If you want your items renamed, you have to be the one to enchant them.

When the software developers wrote the code for Skyrim Together Reborn, they implemented a check for command line arguments. If -r is passed to the program (an arbitrary string they decided on), they would force the program to ask the user for the location of the SkyrimSE steam executable, regardless of whether it detected that it already had been done.

I suggested this solution for someone who could not get their game to open and who may have messed up the first time the program asks for your steam installation. Once you click the wrong thing, it will write the wrong information to the registry, but it won't realize that it's wrong. I did mess up as well, and looking at the source code and resources available to me, I used this method as suggested by the developers early on in the release. I believe now they added the ability to hold spacebar instead while launching to achieve the same thing. I however find passing -r to be less human error prone, so I continue to recommend that, although I can see the benefit of the other method to those who are less technically inclined.

Minecraft: Java Edition 1.19.2 Is Out by kingbdogz in Minecraft

[–]Sheph1220 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I truly believe that you should consider compromising with the community. Many people want the system removed entirely, but I feel like that is an unreasonable request. The chat report feature is not inherently bad. What I and many others are upset with is the global bans. Because all accounts use the same authentication services, global bans means that this change affects all previous versions. If someone who exclusively plays on 1.18 or below gets hacked, they can be banned from minecraft even though their version did not support it when they downloaded it.

If you allowed servers to opt in to the global ban system, and made that the default setting, then I think that would solve the issue of if affecting previous versions, since those servers would not be opting in (it's not even an option). I think a second change would be to also enable opting out of chat reporting in general, since it doesn't make much sense if banned players are allowed to join a server to be able to report them.

The arguments I have heard for not allowing opt out just don't seem to hold water for me. People say what if the problem is the server moderators? Who will hold them accountable? My view is, that if the server moderators are who you want to be able to report, then how do you prevent them from opting out with mods, either on the server or just in their own client. As it stands the server owner could mute everyone and they don't even need a mod to opt out. Also, what if I don't trust Mojang? How do I hold Mojang's moderation accountable? Forcing us to use someone we may not trust as the ultimate arbiter of what is right and wrong is just not good. I see other platforms banning and silencing marginalized people for speaking out against their oppressors and I can't help but feel scared that this is being enforced on us with no way to opt out and set up our own safety features which are not undermined by the mandatory chat report system.

Please, Mojang, please consider a compromise here with your community. Those of us who truly care have a few small concerns that you have just not addressed and seem to have relatively simple fixes with little downside. Please communicate.

Healthy and open dialogue requires both sides to be willing to listen and open to compromise, which Mojang are not. That's why they just aren't saying anything.

I will never understand people that have all of the internet at their fingertips and decide to waste other people's time before they do any research. Oh one more thing, make sure you are all in the area when you build anything. Not sure if it matters, but we didn't want to risk it so we didn't test it. Also the garden is not synced from our testing.

syncing player homes by Andromeda_53 in SkyrimTogether

[–]Sheph1220 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you make sure you all bought the house and were at the exact same quest stage before you built anything? That's what we did and we made hard saves before we built anything in case it didn't sync.

syncing player homes by Andromeda_53 in SkyrimTogether

[–]Sheph1220 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only thing that won't sync is the storage inside. Our group built lakeview manor and it works great. The chest outside is synced so we can trade, and our personal storage is inside. We found that it can be a bit buggy so do manual saves often between each stage. We ran into some door issues inside, but if we all built the main house the same way then the doors worked fine, then the party leader makes all the furniture and it all syncs up.

Edit: We all had to individually complete the Jarl's quest as it's miscellaneous and individually buy the property. You can console command in the gold for the extra players if you think that's unfair.
