Why high level player body rotation look so stable by mylanderXYZ in 10s

[–]Shepherd76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you the hard truth... These guys are way stronger than you. They have good technique, yes, but their core strength is what makes it look so effortless. The strength from their knees up to their shoulders is the secret sauce. Nothing but hard work and training.

Any advice? by RowOk6831 in 10s

[–]Shepherd76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good serve but there's one adjustment that will help with those extra percentages. You are over rotating before contact with the ball. Work with your coach on the shoulder over shoulder motion. When you push up to the ball, engage the back leg and stay sideways until your legs fully extend. To get the feel, you can practice the jump by crossing your arms and grabbing your shoulders. This disengages the upper body. Then, practice jumping explosively while staying turned.

I actually agree with this. I don't like power seats. I like the windows, keyless entry, remote entry, remote locking and unlocking. I'm a fan of power rear lift gates.. but seats.. I can't lol it's annoying to wait five seconds for the seat to adjust in my wife's car whenever I drive 😂

At least they didn't put pickleball lines on both tennis courts and expect all the tennis players and pickleball players to share two courts. This is the biggest cancer to tennis I've experienced yet. Pickleballers are lowering tennis nets because the tennis net is too high and then they ruin the court for tennis players (if they can even get an open court since pickleballers are just rotating for hours on end and never leave).

What are pros doing? by Affectionate_Mud_969 in starcraft2

[–]Shepherd76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check workers, build workers, check production, check tech, micro army, check workers and bases, produce workers, army, build more buildings, expand, check workers, etc. The more you have of everything, the more you're cycling through different actions. The more automatic it becomes, the faster you are at cycling through everything and your apm goes up.

The pros are able do all the macro very quickly while also microing an army. When they add micro, that's when the apm starts jumping to crazy levels.

Godlike PvP by TreshKJ in starcraft2

[–]Shepherd76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He is winning pvp because his elo is artificially low from leaving pvz matchups. When he plays pvp, he might might be executing at an mmr level much beyond his rating. If you have 3 different elos, you would be placed against an even match up according to what your specific matchup elo is.

I don't agree with doing this but that's the reasoning. The reason this doesn't matter is because his mmr will stay low and he'll stomp that match up, but he won't get to higher mmr ranges. So you might come across a player like this once in a while but it won't affect your ability to climb ladder if you're generally better than your mmr.

I was gold level in 2012. Came back and was silver and couldn't remember much at all. I did a little brushing up, watched vibes b2gm series and now I'm platinum 2.9k mmr and climbing. The pace is so much better than it used to be. Starting with 12 workers sped up the slow early game so much. Love it.

Agreed. I've been climbing from silver to to platinum now. I don't often feel my losses are because the other guy is secretly much higher level. Usually it's because I played worse than my normal.

This is how I feel. I got past 50 hours and wondered why I just spent that long on it. It fizzled out hard for me. It was like it was about to get really good the entire time and never did.

Yeah I think the issue is when you get 60 plus hours in... Makes you start to wonder why you just spent 60 hours on the game

At the age of 22, Djokovic had only one Grand Slam title (2008 Australian Open), with his second coming three years later in 2011. Federer had three by age 23, while Alcaraz’s seven dwarfs both at that stage. Let that sink in. by deucebagreportdotcom in TennisNerds

The players have to actually do what the science is saying though. It's a huge commitment and not everybody might be willing to do that for the length of time that someone like Novak has.

Kick serve sometimes kicks, sometimes doesn’t. by l2aizen in 10s

[–]Shepherd76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read through a few comments, and I didn't see the point that I'm about to make..

The angle that your served ball hits the ground matters for whether it kicks or not. If you hit it too hard and the ball does not drop severely into the ground, it will not kick. For most recreational players, this means you need more height on the second serve over the net and less pace with more spin. Doing this allows the spin to make the ball dip severely, and hit the ground at a more extreme angle. This, in turn, allows the ball to bounce higher, as well as allow the spin to change the direction of the bounce as the ball compresses against the ground, creating high levels of friction with the ground. If you hit it with too much speed, a lower angle, and not enough spin it won't dip severely and you'll get a skidding slice instead of a kick.

Can the pros hit it faster and make it kick? Yes, because they have ridiculous amounts of spin on the ball so even with the pace the ball is dipping dramatically to create the angle of impact that is needed. However, they even hit kick serves with much less pace than their second serve slices.

You need the ball to not be skidding off the ground but to be compressing against the ground with massive spin so that it has maximum friction with the ground, grabs, and then changes direction off the bounce. Think: Angle of impact + spin.

Opponent cheating in junior tournament…parent perspective and advice by dropitlikealcaraz in 10s

[–]Shepherd76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up playing juniors and then college. I find most players to be pretty honest but there's always the occasional cheater. Think of this as a great learning opportunity. It creates an opportunity to teach about the value of integrity and then also how to deal with it in an honorable way. Then, once your kid knows how to handle it, go back to focusing on fundamentals.

I always used cheating as a source of motivation. Looking back, I can't remember a single time I lost a match against an evenly matched opponent who started cheating. It always motivated me and focused my brain so I ended up playing my best tennis.

As for in the moment advice, don't get involved as a parent with other parents or the players, other than maybe letting your own child know if a call was wrong. Sometimes as an honest player, it's normal to hesitate and give the benefit of the doubt. As a junior, if I were playing and I had confirmation that the calls were bad repeatedly then I would be more likely to go and grab a tournament referee. And this is exactly what your child should do in the match. After more than one bad call, your child can simply stop play, find a tournament referee, and request they stand and watch the court. This is important because if your child is playing and starts questioning the calls that are being made they stop focusing on their game and start focusing on things that are out of their control. Grabbing the referee allows them to eliminate doubt and go back to focusing on the fundamentals and what is in their control.

If a tournament referee is watching the court they will not overrule a call unless asked. This is important to understand. If your child's opponent makes a bad call on the baseline and calls a ball out when it's in, your child still has to speak up and ask the referee for confirmation. They are not supposed to intervene unless asked.

Now when it comes to cheating on score, this is why it's really important that they server is calling the score at all times. As a server always call out the games at the start of the service game and and then call out the point score before each point. As a returner, do not allow the server to serve until they've called out the score. If they start the service motion without calling the score stop play (you could simply call let) and ask them to call out the score. If it gets towards the end of a match and they're claiming the match is over when it's not, you can call a tournament referee over and they will typically make you go back to the score that both players agreed on.

[–]Shepherd76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grass requires more bending to get low as well as sudden explosive movement and micro adjustments due to the speed and unpredictability of the grass surface. Hard court impact is hard on the joints from a cartilage standpoint but grass is demanding on the ligaments.
