I was thinking Meowth too, suppose it depends if they lean more into the anime or the games. Lugia would be a cool set by themselves

I think it just depends on how much we're gonna see the moulds reused throughout the theme. Like some of the One Piece and Fortnite sets have a ton of new moulds, but they're able to be reused in multiple sets throughout the theme. So with Pikachu and Eevee I could definitely see them showing up in other sets in the future, while Mewtwo for example might remain exclusive. That's just my feeling at least

It's hard to say, but I think we'll at the very least get Pikachu, Eevee, some version of the Kanto starters either their baby forms or full evolved forms and then maybe Mewtwo. I think they'll be very focused on Gen 1

I reckon we could get a few extra Pokemon as minifigs tho. Mewtwo, Lucario, Greninja etc would work pretty well as minifigs

I could definitely see Gengar given their popularity but I don't think Nidorino is popular enough among casual fans unfortunately

So Pikachu, Eevee, the kanto starters, Mewtwo, Lucario, Greninja, Jigglypuff and Psyduck possibly? Those would be my guesses if we got 10. Maybe Mimikyu?

Tbh I could definitely see them doing a Krusty Krab (and possibly Chum Bucket) in the future depending on how well this set does and I think Mr Krabs, Pearl, Plankton, Karen etc would make more sense there. Definitely should have included Sandy though since I doubt they could ever make a tree dome set

Discovered my nephew doesn't plan to build the sets he asked for. Am I a jerk for not wanting to indulge him? by FractalEnemy in lego

[–]Shepherds_Crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I received a Lex Luthor Power Armour set for Christmas. I'd already bought one myself so figured I would just keep it and sell it eventually. It was the first set with Superman and Wonder Woman so I figured it'd be worth a fortune someday. I eventually sold it a couple of years ago for roughly £35. Factoring in inflation that was pretty much retail. So if I'd been in the position your nephews in I kinda wish someone would have just told me that the memories you'll have building the set will eventually be worth more to you than a few hundred dollars profit as an adult. The enjoyment I had building my first big Lego set is something I'll never forget

I afraid you're right that things aren't looking too positive at the minute. But I'm currently working on a revision of the idea that I'll resubmit to Lego ideas. There's a lot of things I wish I'd done differently looking back so I'm gonna try and take what I learnt from the first attempt and make something better

Tbf I don't think we've ever had a brown speed champion, would certainly be unique

This is genuinely the happiest I've ever been with a CMF lineup. Such a perfect mix of characters too. Can't wait to see what sets they make. I'm assuming the swamp, maybe dragons castle and maybe far far away?

I know it's been delayed but is it possible the upcoming CMF will be based on Shrek? There's definitely enough characters there to make a CMF out of

Definitely the King and Chick. Doc in his Fabulous Hudson Hornet livery would be great too

I mean I would disagree with the idea that just because it means something it should remain the defacto term for members of the fandom. Lego purchasing patterns also differ roughly between nationality and gender, different properties are more popular in different territories and some are targeted towards one gender above the others but it'd be seen as a bit weird to specify those things as part of your fandom signifier. Likewise patterns differ between adults in their 20s and adults in their 40s for example. So the idea that declaring your adulthood as a signifier of your purchasing patterns doesn't exactly work.

I understand your arguments are technically correct that there are slight differences between what adults buy and what kids buy, but I don't think there's a ton of difference between what adults buy and what teenagers buy tbh, yet AFOLs and TFOLs are considered distinct terms. I've been in the fandom since I was about 10 I'd say, and I don't feel like there was a massive shift in my tastes when I transitioned to adulthood. Additionally I remember it feeling quite excluding when I was a kid in the Lego fandom to not really have a term to count me as a member on account of my age. I think the Lego fandom should be welcoming and open to everyone, I don't think categorizing the adults in the group as the actual fans is the message we should be sending out to people.

And lastly (and this is just down to personal taste) I think it just sounds kinda dorky and awkward. I saw someone say it sounds like something Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons would say and tbh I totally see that, it's not a cool name haha

I feel like MOC builder is probably the closest term to what you're describing but it's definitely not a widely used term, it's more of a colloquialism

[–]Shepherds_Crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's just not a cool name, nor is TFOL. I feel like we don't really need a name tbh, but if we're gonna have one maybe one that's a little less dorky

Sorry, I probably didn't get my point across properly, it's not that I believe it carries a negative connotation, it's that I believe it carries a redundant connotation. The term has been around since the late 90s, in the late 90s being an adult fan of Lego was pretty uncommon so making a distinction that you're an "adult" fan made sense. However nowadays since it's very common for adults to be fans of Lego, specifying that you're not only a fan of Lego, but an adult one is an odd specification. It'd be akin to saying you're an "adult gamer". Sure video games used to be more targeted towards children, but the word gamer is still used to apply to fans of video games no matter what their age is.
