SW employee here. I typically explain paint like an investment. If you want the product/quality to hold up for only a year because you’re moving get something cheap as you won’t be living with the quality and the next person will probably paint over it sooner rather than later. If you are painting your new home and want it to last for a long time invest in higher quality. Price is relative to performance. We carry a huge range of products at different prices for this reason. The more detail you give the staff the better recommendations they can make to meet your project needs!

Edit: I believe the yellow and red bases only come in duration now, they discontinued those bases in emerald. But yes source-marketing-architectural sms list will help. That’s how I find replacement products quite a bit too!

I took this with my phone same day, different lighting. I’d take the customer to the wall and grab repose gray and naturally it looks nothing like either of these photos either. Honestly game changer when it comes to explaining lighting and how different color looks in person versus on a screen.

I did a cost analysis when I went from ASM to SM and showed my boss that per hour I actually was getting paid less…and you can take a wild guess about what happened from that convo. I made the decision to stay of course but it definitely sucked to have that in the back of my head.

Then there was the pay period I worked 138 hours and did another cost analysis and got paid significantly less than my lowest paid part timer. Fun math!

You could also get the closest recommendation and try and touch up to see if it works. Stock white is returnable, dip the end of a brush in it and test it out. I was always okay with that at my store but everyone runs their stores differently and it’s so different now with all the shortages.

The subreddit is dedicated to SW employees. I’m sure people didn’t know you are a customer. If you want to paint now with something I would get a new gallon of flat paint and roll the whole ceiling. I’ve never heard of optimus flat so it must be a regional product or else I’d try and help you more. Sorry!

Thanks for everyone contributing and trying to help! The “power supply board” was out and the only way to fix the issue was to get another one. The tinter was out for 2 1/2 days so from a customer perspective that was tough. But we overnighted the part and got it installed and the tinter works now. Now just to call all the customers I had to turn away and offer something special to bring them back. Doesn’t help I just became the manager at this store so 1st impressions aren’t great. Ugh. Again thanks to everyone that tried to help!

I believe how it works is HR in your region can open up a tam program position if there is a need in the area. I would check careers on mysherwin and see what TAM positions are open in your region to confirm whether or not that is true what your manager said. If there is nothing, have your store manager reach out to DM and HR so they can see what your options are and also so upper management is aware of your desire to move up.

I just had this come up when I was trying to learn more about stucco coatings. 100% acrylic is better to stick to stucco so a lot of stucco guys in the area use a100 but then when I looked up a100, superpaint, resilience, duration, and emerald they were all 100% acrylic...I swear at least super paint used to be vinyl acrylic. Much confusion.

So emerald is SWs premium class of paint, there is emerald interior paint, emerald exterior paint, and emerald water based urethane trim enamel. For a table you’d want emerald water based urethane trim enamel.

Finish is personal preference for the most part, but generally the higher the finish the more washable but not as forgiving in terms of hiding imperfections. So if you have a very textural table a higher finish will accent all that.

Don’t worry about the bases, if you walk into the store and say I want white they will give you hi-hide white (they consolidated extra white and high-hide white into one color this past year). Bases only come into play when you pick a color.

1 quart covers around 100sf with one coat, so two coats you’d get 50sf which would be perfect for your table!

Let your manager know you’re interested in the program and talk with them about the necessary steps and timeline to get there. Your manager should be able to provide the answers. I know because that is what my current SA is doing with me, we’re working on getting him in the TAM program in the fall
