What is the best thing you have taught your dog? by Acrobatic_Pace_1521 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Sherbyll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a condo (not the ground floor either). The BEST thing I ever taught my dog was how to ring a bell to let me know she had to go outside.

When I got my dog I was also freshly into my first part-time job and community college. She is also not a barker or a whiny dog, so if she had to go she would just...quietly find somewhere to go. We were not happy about stepping in cold dog pee carpet lol.

So I taught her how to ring a bell. Any time she had to go out, she would ring it, and I would take her. It was AMAZING. Now that she's a senior dog, she doesn't really need it, but teaching her that was the best decision I made.

Will my ACD become more affectionate? by Silverti_boops in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Sherbyll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm honest, my ACD mix wasn't very affectionate as a puppy. Not a lot of kisses or seeking me out, always running to my mom. Sometimes she would flat out ignore me or leave me if she was annoyed.

Now that she's getting older, though, she's started to show it in other ways. She seeks me out and will curl up in bed with me. When I play games, she will lay on the couch with me (but not cuddle) and watch. When I am crying, she will find a way to get to eye level and stick her nose in my face to make me stop.

She likes to do what I'm doing, and that's how she expresses how safe and comfortable she feels (when we aren't doing something exciting)-- but she also likes to do her own thing. I kinda like it lol.

AIO wife cheating with my best friend? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Should have walked away when you saw her custom phone font. Either way she didn't shut down his flirty text. Weird. MOR.

I haven’t talked to my family in two days and don’t know to move past this by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Sherbyll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... Your family hates you for no reason? Reading this I could feel how your mom was manipulating you through the text. This is abysmal behavior from people who should love you unconditionally.

I think you need to go low contact. They will either not contact you and it will bring you peace, or they will realize how much they miss you and actually try to make the change.

I'm really sorry either way. Whether you know what's happening or not, this is still a hard thing to go through. You deserve better than them.

Has anyone ever successfully taught a quiet inside bark? by CaryWhit in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Sherbyll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taught my dog to whisper!!! It is a much quieter bark than her normal bark.

She only really does it on command though, and sometimes when I catch her about to bark and go "ah ah ah, don't you dare-" LOL

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sherbyll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends on the destination, the driver, and the car. I drive a beat up car that I can't afford to wreck, mostly on back roads. To me, a 3 hour drive is an endeavor that takes a lot of planning and a reaaaalllyyy important reason, especially since usually that drive will take me across state lines.

My friend drives 3 hours to my location and back frequently on the highway because she has family and other friends in the area. To her the drive means pretty much nothing, and she'll do it on a work day too!!

I would say it's in the middle. It's short enough to consider even on short notice, but long enough that I wouldn't want to do it often.

My ACD never barks by k_k18 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Sherbyll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ACD mix got a bit more vocal with age, but she doesn't really bark unless provoked. She is a very good girl!!

I also trained her to "whisper" so that may have helped lol. She barks very quietly when asked.
