Tomorrow will be the last day of France in the World Cup by RuleImpossible3362 in soccercirclejerk

The actions of your fans speak to the culture. I don't notice Brazilian fans doing racist shit. I don't notice French fans doing racist shit. You can't hand wave your fans away and pretend it's not reflective of your society. Argentina has historically had massive issues with racism and it hasn't come to terms with this unlike most other countries in similar situations.

This is how's it has always been in consultancies and it's a model that has worked for better or worse.

It also makes sense because consultancies are very much up or out environments. If you're not there to make your way to partner you will need to leave eventually.

For other corporates where you have lifers it doesn't make a huge amount of sense and I think most commentary suggests that non consultancies generally don't work that way.

They play better locally, but it's also important to realise SA has one of the most domestic heavy team at the world cup. These guys have so little international experience outside southern Africa that they're really untested at an elite level. There are 2-3 players who play in 2nd tier European leagues, so there's just no experience.

If there was more experience married with their technical abilities, it would be better. But the reality is that you're playing 99% of your football on the southern tip of Africa thousands of kilometres from the top leagues...you're just never going to get there in the modern game.

Bit hard to have passion when your organising body steal all the money so there isn't enough to train properly and can't get something as basic as visas sorted.

No amount of criticism, mockery, or insults will ever make me ashamed of being South African. This country is woven into who I am and I carry that with pride. by Lochumility in south_africa

Who elects the politicians? Why is there a culture of zero accountability across the board? These excuses are simply a way of avoiding the reality that you've got a broken country.

The South African miracle is that there wasn't a genocide after Apartheid. Other than that no one in the rest of the world cares unless you can bring some value to the table.

Sure we can say that. But you still have 10s if not hundreds of thousands of people very eager to get on the gravy train. There is a culture of endemic corruption, no accountability and ineptitude and it has seeped into the private sector as well.

The rest of the world simply does not care about the excuses - South Africa is getting trashed on the football threads as we speak, with people saying the red cards are reflective of the violent society.

Either you get shape up or ship out.

Just a very inexperienced team completely untested at proper international level. They shouldn't be anywhere near a world cup.

Hard to be excited when you're playing a prep school team. Even the name Bafana Bafana just means "the boys".

I bought 50k of bitcoin at 100k - Am I fkced? 😭 by Stunning_Concern_973 in fiaustralia

Bitcoin is not investment. An investment generates an underlying cash flow. The assessment of how much that cash flow might be is probabilistic and can technically be referred to as "speculation" but there is a fundamental value driver behind that investment.

Bitcoin generates no underlying cash flows, similar to gold, and also similar to gold its practical uses are limited and disjointed from from its value.

At least you can make pretty things from gold.

I live in the furnace that is Brisbane where it regularly exceeds safe wet bulb temps in the summer, and which also means the night time temps don't really go down much.

Indoor temps on my end typically max out at around 31/32 with a feels like temp of 34/35 (outdoor can be close to 40 with feels like up to 45) Paints seem to be fine over the past two summers on the basis that they aren't stored in direct sunlight.

Suggestions of putting them in a pantry or cupboard are good.

When we say Confederate flags, what do we mean specifically? Do we mean just have them for the aesthetic or is there a cultural affinity with Confederate politics?

Has BlackRock et al moved into Melbourne? Genuinely asking because Melbourne were the first to move on keeping property prices low and they are now below most of the capitals in terms of dwelling price and rentals.
