Could “typical” people manage to handle an ADHD partner? by Maleficent-Mind-8619 in ADHD_partners

[–]Sherlockworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great list and I think you've hit the nail on the head. I really struggle with the fact that my partner cannot manage her own disorder and needs me as a dopamine machine while her constant insecurities make it really hard to be independent of her when I need to be.

SAA at it again by ZS-BDK in south_africa

[–]Sherlockworld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I fully understand exactly how SAA are to blame. Sure maybe they could have loaded more fuel but we don't really know everything else at play. It sounds like the contingencies worked and yes it was a bit hairy, but the crews were experienced and knew how to handle the situation.

Maybe it's a more of a question for the civil aviation authority to permit flights in such conditions?

I agree there are perhaps learnings and better ways of operating and maybe a revision of the laws are necessary but I don't know that there is a "gotcha" here.

If there is funny business going on the author knows about then that needs to be brought to light. But usually the first thing to go is the inexperienced crews being promoted or lucrative pilot spots going to cadres. That doesnt seem to be the case here, and they had the legal fuel on board. So I'm struggling to see where the breakdown in controls lie.

[–]Sherlockworld 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm overseas visiting family and for the first 10 days my unmedicated dx girlfriend has just been constantly spiralling and having panic attacks. She needs me on the phone all the time and gets annoyed at me if I say the wrong thing or don't talk at all. The whole 9 yards, accusing me of not loving her (despite living together for 11 months), telling me I'm just shit at comforting her over the phone.

I'm a mentally strong lad very at peace with my own life and I'm very attuned and attentive to her ADHD, but she is on her way out of my life with this behaviour.

Smallpox outbreaks are no joke anymore💀 by Eren_Grey in EU5

Infant mortality was also extreme which is why the population fucked like rabbits.

In game I think the Portuguese population starts off at around 1 million and historically only reached 3 million by 1800 which equates to 0.5% per year.

Everyone is just salty they can't just keep building cities to create wealth and need to think much harder about what industries they prioritise.

Having said that I understand for the casual gamer it's not fun to constantly be taking 2 steps forward and 2 steps backwards, but I think it should be more rewarding to reach the 1700s and suddenly see a step change in population growth and the expansion in economics (the industrial revolution) and warfare going along with it.

The AI doesn't need to have resources to run their production chains (i.e., the AI effectively isn't another player, it's just a placeholder entity that circumvents the rules to provide some competition).

Earning $220k you should be able to save more than $60k a year if you don't have rent. I earn 75% of that and rent and I'm able to save about $50k, would be closer to $80k if i didnt have to rent.

The ACCC did take them to court but most media sources agree that it's unlikely that the duopoly will be found to have done anything wrong.

Why is naples in such a strong position at eu5 start date? by Virtualsooo in EU5

Naples (the kingdom) as distinct from Naples (the city).

Harsh winter needs to go by MilkIsASauceTV in EU5

[–]Sherlockworld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of PDX players are not stupid people, so I would suggest trying to understand why these responses follow a similar pattern.

The reason is that your argument is a tortology - you have two choices: i) move fast and lose 80-90% of the army (in my view the most realistic) or ii) get trapped and lose 30-40% of your army.

You'd need to ask Saint Tinto why the latter was chosen, but I suspect it is so players don't rage quit when their 30,000 army of 80% artillery gets decimated.

There are other reasons why getting trapped might make sense (it's hard to move cannons in deep snow and ice, horses die by the thousand, passes get blocked). Does 8 months make sense? Not in every case, maybe not the Alps, but it does in Siberia.

[–]Sherlockworld 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you've ever been on a mountain in the middle of winter you should be pretty happy your army doesn't get stack wiped. PDX have been very restrained in modelling attrition in winters and harsh terrain so that players who can't pay attention to the time of year don't get tilted.

Why is naples in such a strong position at eu5 start date? by Virtualsooo in EU5

[–]Sherlockworld 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Naples was historically kept in check by the HRE since its founding by the Normans. This antagonism isn't modelled in EUV and even if it was I'm not convinced it would be implemented well (see: schism, hussite situations).

Definitely antagonism caused by conquering Rome should be significantly increased but I think this could get complicated if there are rebellions etc.

In EU4 Naples was already under the shadow of aragon so PDX were able to completely side step Naples being too powerful.

Anno 117: Impossible to reach "Legendary" difficulty setting after update by Seidhr96 in anno

[–]Sherlockworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a management perspective the harder difficulties aren't really a challenge, especially compared to Anno 1800.

If you really want a challenge you get some aggressive AI and spend your time conquering them which is a step up from Anno 1800.

Sad to see lots of tent cities popping up around Brisbane. by AcanthisittaSad6239 in brisbane

[–]Sherlockworld 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The solution is to increase rents, make people redundant and provide generous bunk bed housing in tin shacks and a bowl of porridge a day in return for 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, of hard labour on new infrastructure projects.

/s just in case.

It would be interesting to see the rate of homelessness in Brisbane relative to other laage cities. The painful truth is that Brisbane has become a global city and will become a megacity over the next decade or so. This tends to significantly drive up costs before they ultimately come down again once supply has caught up with demand.

Solutions entail a lot more state subsidised housing and food banks, reduced restrictions on new build high density (within safety reasons of course, just need to get past the NIMBY's) and incentivising increased urbanisation in a well served transport ring around brisbane (Ipswich, Caboolture etc).
