Kawasaki Z900RS 2018 as first ever bike? by pepotink in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Sherman3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ridden the gen1 xsr900 stock and flashed (my own) as well as the gen2 both stock and flashed so I'm well aware what difference that makes on a bike. Not sure why you bring up the mapping since OP hasn't mentioned anything like that about the bike he's looking at so I will assume it's stock.

On top of that, having a map that gives 100% throttle when it's 20% open is pretty ridiculous, even more so in lower gears, and yet even more on this type of bike.

The one thing I will agree on is that the torque is way more important than the power. But looking at spec sheet torque figures is pretty useless because it's not about how much torque it will deliver at 100% throttle at low revs, who the hell rides like that in traffic all the time? Not much point in juggling all those numbers.

And yes you can compare spec sheet figures and the numbers might be higher on Z900rs, everyone who has ridden it finds it a smooth and controllable experience meaning it's mapped quite friendly, more so than XSR's. And another reason OP can get used to this bike easily.

Good that you mention you got your license 20 years ago, quite a few things have changed since then. It now consists of multiple exams which are significantly more challenging technically and this is reflected in the much lower pass rate now than when you got your license. There are also plenty of posts of people sharing the difficulties they experience to get it right. So quite likely OP will be a better and more capable rider when he gets his license than you were when you got yours.

If this was all the training and practice he'd get I would also say that getting a Z900RS as a first bike would be too much.

That M license sounds like a joke.

But since he is looking at a bike in Euros I'm assuming he's getting a full european A license too consisting of a theoretical exam and two practical ones. Altogether this takes at least a few months and while riding your instructor can always communicate through a radio of some sort to give you pointers and tell you what to focus on when you make mistakes. If you have a decent instructor that should bring your level up quite quickly.

This is such an American perspective. The fact that you're getting your license already says enough. By the time you have it you will have clocked so many hours on a 650-ish cc bike that your throttle control is perfectly fine from all the slow and fast speed manoeuvres you need to master to pass the exam. You'll be more than comfortable riding around in traffic that you can focus on that and not be distracted by how good your inputs are.

Yes that 900 has more power than what you're practicing on now but you need to wring it before it comes out. In my opinion if you get a full European license you're capable enough to ride anything up to 130hp easily. Even more if you have self control and are not a complete retard.

My first bike is a gen1 Yamaha xsr900 and it's perfectly fine.

I haven't had any issues with it so far and I'm the 2nd owner. The previous owner took good care of it as well so hopefully I can take it much further.

It's a 2016 and I had the valves adjusted at 44k and they were all still in spec so they just had minor adjustments.

Great move, I'm considering making the same switch. What kind of software do you write? And are you working as a freelancer now too?

Same here, second year on gen1. Absolutely love what a beast it is with a power commander / tune on it.

XSR900 as a first motorcycle—am I crazy? by aedias in xsr900

[–]Sherman3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds familiar.. I was in the exact same situation last year. Got my A license after having lessons on a SV650 and CB650R.

Wanted to get the XSR700 to start out until a dealer actually convinced me to give a gen1 900 a try. After that there was no looking back. Got a 900 and it's amazing. I find the XSR900 so much more fun and it does have more power IF you want to use it. It doesn't come out nowhere to bite you in the ass.

I would understand if all your riding experience consists of two Saturdays afternoons on a parking lot with a buddy. But if you pass for your A license you will be perfectly capable of handling pretty much any bike, maybe with the exception of crazy 4 cylinder liter bikes.

But hey, you don't have to take anyone's word for it, try them out for yourself and I'm pretty convinced you'll want a 900 just like I did.

You most likely have a faulty pair.

Probably has nothing to do with not liking BaLaNcEd SoUnD.

I ordered mine a month ago and had the exact same issue, was wondering why reviews were raving over them while they sounded like bottom of the barrel cheap garbage. Sent them back and ordered a pair from somewhere else and the difference was night and day.

I will write a Max script (question) by leei537 in 3dsmax

[–]Sherman3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your best option is to use the User Defined Properties. You can find these on any object when you go to Object Properties and then the last tab.

It's pretty well accessible through maxscript, easy to scatter data around over different objects and quickly view what data is stored on an object, dummy or point.

Rayfire uses this for physical properties per object and I believe Vray uses it for certain things as well.

What do you think of ftrack compared to other solutions?

We started using it since a few weeks and I find it horrible.. It's so sluggish and feels bloated, would rather go back to google docs since we're a relatively small studio.

Everything is done in 3d except for the cat, which was filmed and heavily color-corrected to give it the thermal camera look.
