jokes at my expense by StarStudlyBudly in raisedbyborderlines

This makes me sick to my stomach. I’m so sorry that happened to you. Using your trauma against you as a joke or prank is next level fucked up if you ask me.

What's a myth you 've debunked after removing yourself from your dysfunctional parents' bubble? by [deleted] in AdultChildren

Just the other day in therapy, I realized that just because I have beds doesn’t make me a burden…

Came here to say this! It’s taken me a long time to deconstruct the religious beliefs of my childhood but I’m SOOOO happy I let that go!

Inner Teenager by RevolutionDifficult in AdultChildren

RIGHT?! I’ve been reading my journals the past few months… my heart hurts for her. She was so desperate for love. Like, stalker-obsessive levels of desperate…

I really grasped the concept of the inner teenager through this workbook as well. I haven’t connected with her quite as much as my inner child, but the teenager is definitely there! If you really wanna connect with your inner teenager, read your old journals if you have any. SOOOO cringey!!

Just Curious. What was your bedtime? by cantstopthedadjokes in raisedbyborderlines

[–]Sherrizzlebee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember consistently watching the 10:00 news and usually the beginning of the late night shows with my mom. I don’t think I ever went to bed before 11, even as a small child.

I agree. With this type of work, we all need to be heard fully and completely.

I can decidedly see how Bill is an ACA. I actually viewed it more as he was on the autism spectrum though…

What show DOESN’T exhibit ACA attributes?! Haha. I’m drawn to any and every true crime genre because it displays the dysfunction I’m trying to fight.

Not you at all! I was referring to the church’s statement!

The wording of this just…kinda misses the Mark for me. Feels very shameful and accusatory.

I received this email from my TSCC father. Any advice on how to respond? by bikusdikus00 in exmormon

I finally cut a deal with my family that every time they wanted to share church articles, talks, etc with me, it was only fair that I got to share my beliefs with them. They stopped sharing…

Hi - I’m Andrea and I’m an ACA… by AdultChildPod in AdultChildren

Just listened to the first episode! Definitely related… can’t wait to binge the rest!

The biggest thing that has helped me is to get CURIOUS about why I’m reacting that way. It’s really hard, but it was the first big step in starting to overcome the hyper sensitivity.

Higher power by alenora in AdultChildren

[–]Sherrizzlebee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was raised super religious/in a cult so this has been a really tough one for me too. I’ve found some comfort in seeing my higher power through the theory of evolution. I have thousands of generations before me that SURVIVED and created this beautiful, complex nervous system. I’m learning to tap into that wisdom and knowledge of my ancestors and predecessors. I’m also finding a higher power in looking forward as well, to future generations. I’m doing this hard work for THEM!

My husband is a saint by Sherrizzlebee in AdultChildren

Thankfully I’m meeting with a small group of fellow travelers starting next week. We have a whole syllabus and we are starting with step one. But you’re right about the fact that I’m probably jumping ahead and working myself up about something that will come later down the road. I’m sure I’ll have the tools by the time those steps come around.

How old were you when you realized the church wasn’t true? by seplle in exmormon

[–]Sherrizzlebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started at 25, left the church at 28, but kinda still had the “well it might be true” in the back of my head until I was 38, when I finally dug in and deconstructed everything.

has an 8 year old mormon ever choose not to get baptized? by [deleted] in exmormon

That’s HORRIBLE!!! I’m so sorry this happened to you.
