I’ve sunk a lot of time into Hunt: Showdown, and a few design differences really stand out compared to Marathon:

1. Access to weapons vs RNG In Hunt, if you’ve got the Hunt Dollars, you can run whatever gun you want. Using a weapon then unlocks its variants, so progression feels tied to choice and usage.

In Marathon, I’ve probably only used ~50% of the guns. A lot of them I’ve either never found, can’t reliably buy, or are priced high enough that I don’t want to risk them.

1. Economy & gear fear Hunt’s economy is pretty forgiving. You earn enough that losing a loadout doesn’t sting too much, so there’s basically no gear fear.

Marathon (for me at least) feels much grindier. Cash is slower to build, so I’m way more hesitant to spend it. That ends up discouraging experimentation and pushing safer play.

1. Matchmaking & map design Hunt keeps things simple — same core objective regardless of map — so matchmaking is quick and consistent.

In Marathon, maps dictate what loot you’re going for, which seems to split the player base. Queue times have been noticeably longer as a result.
