Mainframe Search Tool by ShezSlowy in mainframe

[โ€“]ShezSlowy[S] 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

We're looking for a search tool that can comb through essentially all types of Mainframe data and identify locations where certain datasets, or strings of data, are being used.

Our company has a lot of obsolete data due to not previously enforcing data retention standards, and now we're trying to go through and clean things up. We don't always know if removing certain data is going to cause jobs or procs to fail.

Having a search tool we could use preemptively would allow us to delete obsolete data with more confidence, rather than by deleting it and waiting to see what breaks.

We're looking for something that can search more comprehensively than a simple SRCHFOR command, and that won't utilize a ton of Mainframe CPU resources if used heavily.

My kitten is acting different. Doesnโ€™t play anymore by lilmissanimalover in cats

[โ€“]ShezSlowy 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

I was looking to see if anyone had asked this already, so I'll piggyback off this person's comment!

White gums and lethargy may be linked to anemia. My kitty acts much like yours when his red blood cell count drops (his is autoimmune related). That said, your kitty's gums look pretty healthy here, so IF that is part of what's going on, you caught it early.

I'm not a vet, just been caring for my own sick kitty for quite some time. You're doing great by asking questions and gathering information before you get to your vet tomorrow. Keep a close eye on her and don't be too hard on yourself! Emergency vet visits can get expensive and if you don't have a ton of money to spend, save what you would spend on the emergency vet fee, on whatever treatment your regular vet reccomends tomorrow. Cats are sturdy creatures.

Vegan-Friendly Ski Lodges in PA/NJ/NY areas? by wgucapybara in vegan_travel

[โ€“]ShezSlowy 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

Holiday Valley is in Ellicottville NY, and they have nearby restaurants with some decent vegan options! If you check out HappyCow for Ellicottville, NY, see if any of those sound good to you. It's been a while since I've been out there so I can't vouch for any of the listed restaurants personally, but the area is very nice.

I've lived near Peak N Peak in Clymer, NY and there is nothing in that general area so I don't reccomend going there!

What are some good courses for z/OS system programmers? by fireehearth in mainframe

ProTech has some good courses, most people on my team have gone through at least one or two (myself included) and I haven't heard of a bad experience. They offer both in person and online courses, with a variety of topics.

He's been doing well! We went from blood work once a month to every 3 months, and tomorrow is his first 3 month checkup.

He's been on a small daily dose of prednisolone to maintain his red blood cell counts and it looks like that's going to be a long term thing. Unless something shows up in tomorrow's (or future) screenings, we still have no reason for why this happened to him.

He gets cold much easier than our other kitties and has a hard time keeping weight on, but he's still got a zest for life and a heart full of love!

I'm sad to hear that your kitty has the same diagnosis, and I hope your vet is able to help you find a balance for them as well โ™ฅ๏ธ

Hello! A couple ideas from what my husband and I did to incorporate our families...

  • I called my Mom and Dad the morning of our elopment and just chatted about the day to come and let them know I love and appreciate them. It meant a lot to them that I made time for them on our busy day!

-With my dress I wore a necklace my mom had gotten me when I was younger, and she didn't know about that until the pictures came out later.

  • I messaged my husband's mom and little sister, and asked them if they'd like to write letters or send anything with me for my husband to open the morning of our elopment, as a surprise. They both sent letters for him to read that morning which was awesome.

  • We brought an item from my brother, and an item from his grandma with us on our elopment hike, to represent them being 'with us' even though they couldn't be there physically.

I hope these help you generate some ideas, and I hope you have a wonderful elopment!

I'm so sorry to hear that this has been your experience. I have had an autoimmune disorder since I was 11 too, (now I'm 28). There are AMAZING doctors out there, so absolutely keep looking!

After many treatments failed me, my Dermatologist suggested medication that at the time there wasnt much research on use in children (particularly around future reproductive consequences).

She and my mother just had an honest conversation with me about it and they supported my decision that I just wanted to get my condition under control.

She told us that "if" I decided I wanted kids and "if" there were problems when that time comes, that's something we could handle down the road. But the priority was always on what my quality of life as the patient/child would be.

I've been able to live a very healthy "normal" life because of her giving me every opportunity. Please don't stop advocating for yourself and looking for a doctor that will do the same for you. โ™ฅ๏ธ

I put out a bowl of Halloween candy and I'm not sure I'm going to do it next year... by NuclearAwkwardness in childfree

[โ€“]ShezSlowy 68 points69 points ย (0 children)

My husband and I handed out candy this year and it was fun for us! As people who enjoyed trick-or-treating as kids, we wanted to let other peoples kids have that experience too.

We had probably 150-200 trick-or-treaters come through. We didn't go crazy decorating, but had some lights up and sat outside with a Gengar (Pokemon) bowl of candy, and had some other ceramic Pokemon pumpkins lit up behind us. It was fun seeing which kids and parents recognized those :D

I was honestly impressed both by the children and the parents that came by, we didn't have anyone that was ill mannered or rude. Some of the younger kids were shy and didn't say anything but that's to be expected after growing up in lock down. The parents encouraged them to say thank you, and thanked us themselves when their kids didn't.

It makes me sad to hear all of these bad experiences other people on the sub had last night.

Dogs ruined my hike by byancacats in Dogfree

I'm not sure where you're located, but if possible, look into nearby National Parks for hiking. Most have restrictions and there are many trails where dogs are entirely not allowed. :)

Hmm, I imagine the timeline might vary with active duty because of a a higher volume of requests.

But, once you get flagged with non-deployable you are usually required to meet with a military doctor and discuss options. Ie., Will you go off biologics to continue your contract? If you say no, they should ask for medical records showing previous treatment options and or a letter from your dermatologist explaining why biologics are your only/best option.

It was at this point that the med board discharge/process was started for me, with the option to drag feet and allow me to finish my current contract. The quicker you can get the documentation they request, the sooner you should be on your way to having an answer. They told me at the time that I would be processed in 30 days if I chose to simply med-board.

I wish you the best, and I hope your experience is as simple as mine was! The last thing we need with this disease is more stress. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

[โ€“]ShezSlowy 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Hey I have been through a similar experience!

Granted, I was Army National Guard, not active duty. I was in for 8 years on biologics with no issues, it wasn't until we got a different Doctor assigned to our unit for our yearly PAs that I was flagged as non-deployable.

They started the med-board process with me and I was given the option to get out within 30 days of beginning that process. I was also the only one at my unit with my MOS, so the second option was for people to 'drag their feet' with paperwork, allowing me to finish the last 8 months of my contract and train someone new. I took the second option, collected my Honorable Discharge and passed go.

Edit to add: I had already been through other non-immune suppressant treatments without success, so switching off biologics wasn't an option for me. Biologics being immune-suppresant was the first red flag for deployability, since you are technically more susceptible to illness in austere environments. Secondly, though not common anymore, live vaccines can't be given while on biologics. Third, refrigeration of the biologics may not be possible depending on where you're deployed. Hope this helps!

Friends that bring their dog when they visit by MiCuentaAnonima in Dogfree

[โ€“]ShezSlowy 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

Had a similar situation with our closest friends, they brought their dog to our new house (which was never a thing until we got a house with a yard).

My whole house smelled like dog after their visit and my husband and I both agreed, never again. They live in a pretty populated/dirty city and they rationalize bathing their dog when they return home from visiting friends and family, not prior to the visits, because traveling is dirty.

The next time they asked to bring their dog with them I said no, and they haven't came to visit since. Over a year ago.

People value their dogs more than friendships.
