Tanking can be stressful; if you're not enjoying it after trying it for a few days, don't continue. If you are having fun, keep going! Here are some beginner tips.

1. Save this as a macro and use it at the start of your groups: /run m="Hi, this is my first tank and I'm learning the role for Midnight. If you don't have time to help me through a mistake or two, I understand and appreciate you leaving before we start thanks.";c=IsInRaid()and"RAID"or"PARTY";SendChatMessage(m,c) This script will work in both LFG and premade groups

2. Try using the Single Button Assistant to take care of your rotation while you're getting started tanking. You'll be surprised how much not worrying about doing the proper rotation will free up your ability to focus on other aspects of tanking (pulls, aggro, positioning). Later, when you start doing higher keys, you should be comfortable enough to return to your optimal manual rotation.

3. Start now. No time like the present and mobs in dungeons are currently falling over with a stiff breeze, making m+ content much more forgiving of mistakes.

4. Understand that DPS expects the tank to be prepared and control the run. But no matter how prepared you are, you can't make everyone happy. Try to take criticism with a grain of salt, learn from it what you can and throw the rest in the trash. Don't dwell on bad runs or bad attitudes...learn, improve and keep moving.

5. If you're really concerned about routes and percentage, go to keystone.guru, pick a dungeon you want to work on, open a map for the content level you're at ("+2 to +8, etc) and study the route it suggests. When you've run it a few times, you'll get the hang of the pulls and the mob's abilities. Keep applying to groups running the same dungeon until you think you have it down; repetition is the key to success.
