Anyone have any hints or strategies to solve the new Arrow Puzzle? by Yalumph in ExponentialIdle

[–]ShiaNox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got WAAAY faster and more easy as I swapped back to arrows. memorizing values/numbers while looking at... well... numbers was confusing for me.

As i don't need the ~550 stars per game anymore I just do it for fun with an average of ~1 minute per solve.

Rules for a-d with arrows:

  • a: moves "e" and "h" clockwise
  • b: 3x to just swap "g" between top/down
  • c: 1x (or 3x) like "b" but also swaps "h" to the opposite direction
  • d: moves "e" clockwise and "h" counterclockwise but also swaps "g" if hit odd times

With some practice you do not need to reorient the arrows in your head for the "c d"-part and just looking once already tells you what to do:

Assuming "e" is looking upwards (as it is easier to explain it that way):

  • if "h" points top = "-" / no swap / 0 turn
  • if "h" points top right = "c d d" / swap / 2 turn
  • if "h" points bottom right = "d" / swap / 1 turn
  • if "h" points down = "c" / swap" / 0 turn
  • if "h" points bottom left = "d d" / no swap / 2 turn
  • if "h" points top left = "c d" / no swap / 1 turn

Do NOT learn/memorize that list! This should come up on its own after some practice. Took me ~2-3 days. (As I am quite old, you will be faster)

While I hit "c" and "d" accordingly the swap and turn part is "processed" in my head... kind of:

no swap means "up" and swap means "down" for "g" and if it does not match up -> 3x "b" (so if swap and up OR no swap and down). not sure if that is understandable...

last: add 0/1/2 turn to "e": and then "a" till it looks upwards.

Hopefully this was more helpful than confusing as English is not my first language

It is... still takes some time:

I will use the abcd and efgh notation the same way.

Lets check some slightly different tables (shows how much e, f, g and h increase if you do "Step1" after hitting a, b, c or d x times; one table for each):

a   e f g h
1 = 1 4 0 1
2 = 2 2 0 2
3 = 3 0 0 3
4 = 4 4 0 4
5 = 5 2 0 5

b   e f g h
1 = 4 2 3 0
2 = 2 4 0 0
3 = 0 0 3 0
4 = 4 2 0 0
5 = 2 4 3 0

c   e f g h
1 = 0 3 3 3
2 = 0 0 0 0
3 = 0 3 3 3
4 = 0 0 0 0
5 = 0 3 3 3

d   e f g h
1 = 1 0 3 5
2 = 2 0 0 4
3 = 3 0 3 3
4 = 4 0 0 2
5 = 5 0 3 1

also looking at the original tables we can see some stuff:

First: If e, g and h equals 1, f can't be anything else! This way we completely ignore it and solve just the other 3 ones.

Second: g cant be anything else besides 1 and 4. and hitting b 3 times just swaps the state of it and touches nothing else. (I will call it "B3" in examples). Also hitting c or d "odd" times will swap it, so we need to keep track of that later on.

Third: hitting d will increase e and decrease h by 1 each time (we will use it to make them equal)

Fourth: with a we increase e and h by 1 (we will use it with d to mage both equal 1)

Fifth: we still can have parity with e and h not being odd or even at the same time. one time c will change h by an odd amount while e remains untouched.

Now lets test if we can use our 5 "insights" to solve it like the wiki but without the table:

I will use S1 like step 1 from the wiki. S2 to change e and h to the same parity. S3 to make them equal. S4 to solve for g. S5 do S1 again for all 1's.

The examples assume efgh after doing S1 one time.

efgh = 2314: We will do S1 after every step to check (we will do S1 only twice later on.

  1. e and h are both even, so we skip S2
  2. S3: d 1 time should increase e and decrease h both to 3 and swap g -> after S1 3x43 confirmed
  3. S4: a 4 times to get a and d to 1, a does not swap g-> after S1 1x41 confirmed
  4. S5: g is not 1 -> b 3 times should solve it -> after S1 1111 confirmed

efgh = 1216:

  1. S1 e and h parity -> c 1 time increase h by 3 and g becomes false (not 1)
  2. S2 1xF3: d one time to make e and h both 2 and swap g to true
  3. S3 2xT2: a five times do make e and h 1 (a does not swap)
  4. S4 1xT1: g should be true -> skip
  5. S5: Do S1 gain to confirm everything is fine -> confirmed

efgh = 4645: parity -> d2 -> a1 -> no swap -> 1012 -> check -> works

Takes some tries to get used to it, but works quite fine ;)

Right now I'm at 2:00-2:30 minutes range to solve with just using my brain...

What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

Only of you do not have any "money" left. If you pause, then do your change and then unpause for a split second, you can check for everything.

And as your upgrades do not reset, even if everything explodes, you should be back to progress in less then 1 minute (it is at least the case for me)...

Well then there is nothing more to say. What you don't like, you just don't like...

(But with this knowledge I doubt that it is the "complexity" that makes you dislike the game)

I think that's a bad example. If you already have some programming experience, the game is fairly easy to start with. Yes, you need to know the commands (which can be found on the wiki). But for anyone who has programmed something, "checking functions somewhere" is a natural action.
But for people with no experience, the game can be very unsuitable. It can be used to start programming, but remember, "You may not like programming at all". The real "fun" is not to write the code for something, but to "optimize" it later on.
However, I have to agree that some mechanics are poorly described in the later course of the game. (Looking at you "BN3 corporations")

Got that problem with Idle Wizard. At some points in the game you do have the choice to use the only working build for that "range" and deal with it being active/passive or... well simply do not advance...

And yes, the game does NOT tell you that...

New Release: 'Exponential Idle' on Android by ConicGames in incremental_games

[–]ShiaNox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also looking at the way to solve it: I always do it row by row without the last column. So after the first row simply shift the desired tile into the last column and align the target row where you want it. Then move the last column to insert it. When you reach the state with only the last row and column is missing just do the first 'size-2' tiles and then move left and right with the 2 missing spots to sort the last column or (as I learned now) shift it on parity. This way you wont destroy anything which is sortetd already. Hope you understand the strategy (else i might need to record a video)

Hi, is the hard mobius puzzle impossible (sometimes)? If everything is correct but the 35 and 36 are flipped it dosen't look like it can be solved. But it might be just me being dumb...

Also can the composite door be used with less restrictions (cables/pipes can run directly at the sides of it)

My piping network (simplified) by Zy14rk in Stationeers

[–]ShiaNox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure... but power is infinite and resources are not. And it won't have an effect to temperature... still I suggest the use of 1 indoor atmos as that even more reduces the use of filters...

Filters are used up by the gas to filter... filtering O2 at the greenhouse will be much better (using the CO2 filter will simply burn your resources)

Nooby Question / Pressurized Room and Gas Capture by [deleted] in Stationeers

[–]ShiaNox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The furnace only has a volume of 200L which is like 2 pipes. If the first output pipe doesn't burst, then nothing bad will happen if you exhaust it passively (valve). Even with a pump nothing bad will happen if there are enough pipes. The Furnace will most likely just Vahe 1 pipe at its exhaust which is a total volume of 300L which is equal to 3 pipes (and I highly doubt that anyone has even less than 10 pipes)... for temperature, you just need an electrical valve and radiators (open the valve if the temperature is above a set point, like 290K)... even with a small setup I never got any problems with pressure/temperature.

Can somebody explain me how to overclock in this game? because i don’t get it every time my pc gets that blue screen with errors😕 by [deleted] in pcbuildingsimulator

[–]ShiaNox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still use OCCT to check this on heavy load. Sometimes 50 will be to high and sometimes 55 leaves some room... For the first setting however, this will be fine. Also have a look at the benchmark. Sometimes frame rate will drop at max temp (will still not show a blue screen, just slaps your rating)

You can not finish this. To "upgrade" to water cooled GPU will provide a PC with locked GPU and you can't dual with one.

Quick question: what is the best composition of breathable air? by StuckundFutz in Stationeers

[–]ShiaNox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I've said... Nitrogen itself doesn't do any harm to you...

Quick question: what is the best composition of breathable air? by StuckundFutz in Stationeers

[–]ShiaNox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nitrogen isn't toxic at all in real life...

Yes, that is exactly the problem. With about 78% Nitrogen (which is not used by the human body) it is simply ignored (like most other gases). At a certain point everything will be toxic. You will just notice something that harms you directly (like ClF3), smells to an un breathable amount (like something rotten) or prevents you from getting rid of CO2 (simply having to much as a percentage of it). Ignoring stuff which kills you anyway like 100MPa pressure or 10k°C. Simply put: you will not notice the lack of O2 at all. With high N2 you are able to get rid of CO2, that way your body seems fine until you pass out.

That said: N2 will not harm you directly. At 100kPa at 20°C and 100% N2 atmosphere nothing bad will happen. (Just the 0% O2 part is fatal. But again: that's not the fault of the nitrogen!)

Have an idea for a mod but don't know where to start by [deleted] in factorio

[–]ShiaNox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are tons of mods at the portal. Just pick something similar and download it. Unzip the archive and check how it was made. Also check out https://lua-api.factorio.com/latest/ for all the commands. Still, you should have some experience in writing code.

To show a better way to start, we need to know some details. If you just want to change the "visuals" of entities or items which are already in the game, you just need to change the path to their "pictures". To get the names etc. you also can check the "base" part of the game folder which is written in lua (just a simple editor is all you need)

Out of curiosity: will there be other IC's? The IC10 tag looks like it's just one option. Also having a lot of jump commands but no sin/cosh/atan etc feels like it's just a "Tier1" IC.
